Time for a new thread.
Download this little update and overwrite amia_a.hak.
http://www.amiaworld.net/hak/amia_a.rar
It should fix (after reset) the issues with Dev Crit and weird VFX.
I am updating the bigger files now, uploading takes a while.

If you have any problems, do as mentioned above.
Sorry for the buggy ride but we're talking 50.000+ files here, so mistakes are bound to happen.

Okay, just to make my opinion on the matter known. I feel that the head and hand overrides should probably have been added, as NPC's all through Amia use them.

It goes in the folder called 'hak' in your NWN program folder. There should be a copy of the same file in there already, and you should replace it with the new file.
A simple way to check if you got the proper file is by looking at the date. The proper version of amia_a.hak has been created on the 27th.
You can also download the self-installer again if you are really hardcore computer-allergic and have a good connection. However, if the steps above are a real obstacle I'd suggest asking somebody to help you as it may be a good educational event anyway. It's quite risky to use a machine you don't know anything about, you know.

The plethora of threads on hak installation indicate to me that, no matter how easy you make the installation process, or how clear you (attempt to) make the instructions, some people will not be able to do it. Either their systems do strange things, or their directories have non-standard names, or something. Solely from this we can conclude that Amia will experience a drop in numbers that is directly related to adding haks.
Whether or not this is significant, of course, remains to be seen.
No agenda here - just a comment.

Yups, but we can try to make it as streamlined as possible. Putting a warnign next to the self-installer about Vista being a bitch may be a good idea, for instance.

Thats daft. Dispite its optional nature, the overide is almost essential to use, and 99% of players have it. Its harder to install then the hak pack, causes more glitches/bugs, and generally is a bigger pain in the ass. The idea that people can't install it is silly something that simply requires you to drop a few files in two folders.
If the major issue is "complication", which is generally caused by complete stupidity, give people less choices. Delete 7zip, zip, self-installer, use .RAR. That's it. Put a detailed readme in the zip telling people where to extract the files, what to do if the folders are not present, problems and a list of troubleshooting methods.. Put links to the .rar archiving folder in.
Give Amians less choices, because it seems like the majority of Amians are completely useless with computers, judging by all the issues that pop up over the simpliest things.

I believe people are dismissing it as the original 'get the hak' message, and not thinking that would make no sense.

Take your pick and install! First one installs by itself, for the others, place hak file in hak folder and tlk file in tlk folder. If you have Vista you might want to go for the second option.

Download the hak pack.
Inside the pack will be two folders - hak and tlk. Move them (and their contents) to the NWN directory.

Or just move the folder from the archive straight into the NWN directory.

As I'm going to download the HAK and Update after spending a good while not noticing the link to the Hak in the left, perhaps above the "Amia Island" status on the left and under the Amia logo, you should put a "UPDATE HERE!" link every time there's an update as well as forum posts.
Or something, keep up the good work though!

I've updated the file like three times now and i'm still freezing in some transitions and that keeps me out till reset since I reload in that transition. It's mostly cave tiles loading that cause it as far as i have seen. I've even taken the copy of the file from another system that is having not issues in the same areas.
Any suggestions?

Yo, Disco. Got that transition from outside at Sandy Beach to going inside via the cave to the Underdark, the loading meter went up to the near end and then it crashed.

Dear Chicken, since the hak was introduced my fancy BG2 spell icon style override doesnt work anymore on Amia, it still is fine when I go singleplayer. Any alterations of spell icons in the hak?
Here's the override.

We use another spell.2da file which overrides the override. Not much I can do about it. No clue why the dude did it this way. He should have made the icon names the same as the ones used in NWN instead of messing with the spells file.
You could do that yourself, though.

Could I have that .2da so I customise my override of those icons myself, or is there some exploitable stuff I could see? Or do I just take the original .2da and adapt the filenames?

It will still be overridden by the version in the HAK, and you shouldn't mess with that one.
You probably use up to 20 o those icons so you better take the proper approach: extract the spells.2da file from amia_a.hak (you can do that with nwhak.exe in /utils) and open it in Notepad. Make sure Word Wrap isn't active. Now, find the spell you want to use the icon of, Column 4 is the name of the icon it uses. So, you now look up the proper icon in your override folder (thumbnail view is your friend) and you give it that name + .tga.
Example: Acid Fog uses icon "is_acidfog.tga".
Now your override icons will override the standard nwn icons, and not need the spells.2da (one of the most hak-ed 2das so beats me why he did it this way). You can also use Paint to change your spell icons in My Little Pony portraits, and you know you want to because that's just sooo YOU.

Or he could use the override folder, put the changed files (Aka the custom pictures for the spells) in there, and be happy?
Not sure if that works like that, but it would seem logical it would.

While I am at it I might as well install all those BG2 modding tools, for AGES I wanted to introduce spell effect, casting voices and other sounds into NWN.

It clearly says so in the chicken convo. I don't want to clutter up the side bar with all kinds of options. If you're not prepared to read you can download the whole bunch.
