Could someone please explain to me the products / actions / benefits of the Demonologist in a bit more detail, besides the utter badarsery of being able to say "I summon Demons. For fun."?

Look through the thread, and click the more recent links. They list quite clearly the products/services available to/produced by, the various jobs. Including demonologist.

The links should all be on the previous page to this one.

Some items include a demon mask, I think it is. Look it up. Lotsa info.

Ah. Thank you, Cori and Xaviera. You guys are always a big help.

Now... what exactly do these books do, and where would one come across a researcher's desk? Will I be able to spawn it, or the books? Or will the books be purchased? Aside from the RP usefulness of these items, will these items give any benefit to Demon Summoning of any sort or anything?

well a few of my chars who arent bards tend to be able to dance and sing so i just find it a little unfair that you have to be a bard to be able to sing.

The books are just for RP purposes like all the other usual books.
At least from the one book I have seen. I don't think the books have any spell casting abilities.

Reseachers desks are all over Amia. Look around for places that do research, like the monolith, for example.

The idea behind the books is this: they are a symbol of acquired knowledge, and knowledge is money. Create knowledge (for XP) and go to a book merchant to cash in for GP.

(not directly related but..)

..this makes me think of players writing actual books and letters..you know things to hand to other people that they can read. On creation of 'paper/book' get 'shouted' name, and get text from shout channel as a second step, and add text to item description.

Then people could pass notes to each other through other people, and not have to worry so much about credibility cause it's signed if the player adds it to the end of the letter. ^^ (fake letters could be cool too)

(oocly tracked could include the players name in the title)

Forums! A lot less trouble for the stressed out NWN server.

And a bump, because it seems to have been lost, although I could just wait for the system to be implemented ...

Not been lost. After reading this I thought "...hmm, what did I do with those traders?". When I looked I found out I stopped halfway coding.

Traders work in two ways.

You can spawn your trade chest and people can use it to sell off stuff all by themselves, like NPC merchants do. Money comes from nowhere and you get Rank * 5% of the price of the item. On bonus you get double. You also get 5% of the standard XP roll.

You can also spawn your chest and store stuff in it. You need to set your own price then, and you can take items out whenever you like. You get 15 slots to store items in, and each slot takes unlimited amounts of one type (so, you could store 15 types or metal, for example). You can sell yoru stuff to the system at any moment, which gains you the same rewards as above.

If you wonder why the storage system is handy if you can sell to the system right away: take a rank in Drinks trader, collect drinks around the server, and call yourself a barkeep. Alternatively, take a rank in metal trader, two ranks in miner, and three ranks in refiner and start a metal merchandise supplying smiths.

The joy of coding!

One remaining question though ... When a trader buys (with his own gp) materials from PCs and then sells to converter PCs, he won't get a standard roll and therefore no xp. (Of course, this way he can try to maximize his gp profit.) Of course, he could always sell to the system and presumably buy from the system again, but without that he won't get XP.

Or am I missing something?

edit: Of course, selling to the custom price chest could trigger an XP roll as well. But then the material would just cycle around traders, getting unlimited XP rolls for them ... unless there's a system to stop that. Please, enlighten me!

Regards, Ts

You don't get a roll for selling to PCs because that would open the system to heavy abuse. It is a flaw, but allowing people to make unlimited XP rolls is a far bigger flaw.

You can see the traders as transports and service providers, I guess.

Given the Service and Traders system that has been described, as with anything else about this system, I can still safely say I am looking forward to it quite happily. *dancedance*

I'd like to add on that, yes, I have a character who plays flute and can act (rogue/SD) but isn't a bard. I know of several other characters that also have musical talents that aren't Bardic.

I agree that, since no other job requires a specific class (even Arcanist!) that Minstrel shouldn't have the requirement either.

Just looking at the 'Preacher' job concept; would it be possible to have the 'alter' modified to give the 'Preacher' a secular bend? To be specific, would I be able to have the alter turned into a sign depicting the name and/or rules of a simple gambling game that also requires keeping peoples attention?

In my case it would be a Dirty One Eye sign, the idea being that I convince people to stay and play(and lose!). I was going to suggest a different job at first, a Grifter or Confidence Trickster, but I feel this could be better represented by a combination of different 'jobs'.

So what would be the RP repercussions for being a level 3 in this thing or that? For example, if a level 3 Demonologist dark sorcerer decided to summon an important NPC demon?

Actually Incognitos, funny as it sounds and a bit limiting:

Look at Town Crier and how it works. Mix THAT with Beggar.

Likewise,

Disco, you're doing an excellent job and we all (or many of us at least) look forward to the product. :)

Having putzed around with it, I know a taste of what's to come and it will be interesting to say the least.

Yups. Take a look around, most PLCs and NPCs are already in place. I am just fixing some last bugs now and then I'll flick the "On" switch.

Mind that I'll probably change the distribution of converters and resources later. I can't say I was too imaginative while placing the first 600-700 items.

I've been visiting the frozenfar mines every update and I haven't seen any additions yet. Who's the authority to contact regarding lore and all matters of governance regarding that region?

There's tons of areas there but no supporting lore.

The lore was "We need cr7-cr16 areas pronto". You can find some info on Endir in the town itself, that's where you also find most job NPCs.

hey, they would be less likely to take kindly to my drow cleric. But unless a preacher is added to the UD. I would have run into khol get my preacher job as my cleric then leave, and never return. my yath has no reason to go there, but I want that job for her as that is basicly what she does since she is a cleric.

I was thinking that a great place for a preacher trainer would be within the temple, in the room with all the cushions?

Either there, or where the high priestess in front of the altar room is right now.

Adding Performer and Gambler.

That kinda makes meeting "April" impossible, though. Any other "how last minute can you be?" requests?

Why can't the Town-Crier or Singer (whatever the one job that rquires Perform) cover it with descriptive text notes suggesting that the performance need not be sing (at least in descriptive RP which , given you need to use 2 Bardic Song checks in a 5 minute span I like to think you'll be DOING while performing your job) cover this Performer?

Also: Why does Gambler have to be a job? (or if it does, why can't something similar to Town-Crier by set up and maybe just have different descriptive texts as to what happens cover it)

Well, where do you get your XP from if you can't mechanically Sing? I already made Performer by using the same system as Beggar. You place a bowl, do some act and hope to collect money (and thereby XP).

That's also the reason why I am not going to implement Lawyer. I can't think of any mechanic to make it work.

I guess I'll actually skip Gambler as well. It takes quite a bit of scripting to make it work.

What action is required for Beggar? From reading the description, apart from opening and closing the bowl and making the die roll, no explicit emote or skill use seems necessary.

If use of an explicit emote, like 'sit' (thinking of the beggar from Jabberwocky who's cut his foot off to make more money  ) or 'meditate/pray' is required, you could also use an emote ('dance'?) for the Performer/Minstrel. Otherwise I dont understand how the two are the same.

There's no real difference. I just assume that 'Beggar' has a certain ring to its name that not all artist will like.

You don't have to do anything spectacular. I hope that people won't give you anything if you're not acting your part, though.
