Vicious.
Bone Tearing.
Curse-givers.
The Jackals had stolen upon the unwary at evening, baying and running and jaws rending flesh. They had come and yet they had not. Hundreds of them. And then none at all, as if they had never been nor had ever touched the realms. Yet those who carried wounds or worse yet had been returned from death after combatting these illusory beasts could attest to the reality of them. Yet no proof, no carcass to examine.
A mere day after the first assualt, and livestock would begin to disappear from around bendir dale.
Adventurers in the She'kat valley would notice that some of the hideous beasts had been torn apart, not merely slain but literally rendered down to nothing but hard carapace and fleshless legs.
Two days later and some would notice that there seemed fewer birds in the trees within the Nexus region.
The smell around Amia forest, the smell of Decay, of sickness.
And there was a feeling of wrongness. A wrongness seemingly centered upon the Shrine.
It grew by millimeters.

Mahir Ramathant alarmed at the presence of jackals on the isle immediately goes to the servant of Isis. He calls to Zahra Masud, and they investigate, her loyal jackal in tow.

A dark figure settles into Kampos on feeling the wrongness, the taint, and relishing it, revelling in it. She casts a few spells to try to determine what's going on, namely Detect Magic, Analyze Dweomer, and a scrying over a fair few people. //Plz drop me a line, and I'll provide screenies of rolls.

At the Eilistraeen Shrine, a makeshift fence now surrounds the gardens, with "Do not enter the garden unless you want to possibly end up in the Lower Planes." written on a nearby sign in Common, Drow, Elven, and Celestial.

The shadow-wrapped drowess taps her lower lip, deep in thought. She then pens a missive.

Farmer Bentley looked out over the valley he'd spent most his life cultivating in a deep trench in the Nexus Hills. His wife, bless her soul had passed a few seasons prior. The old man's children had departed the farm for the security of Cordor and Kohlingen. He didn't blame them, how could he, raising a crop in the fertile valleys of the Nexus Hills was a constant battle against Gnomes, Ettins and Beastmen. He'd been successful however, this season would be his last before he retired to a small estate he'd purchased for himself in Kohlingen. Just one more crop combined with the sale of his small water mill and he'd spend the rest of his life in relative comfort.
Farmer Bentley leant on his scythe, he sniffed once as he looked up and found a small Dog like creature seemingly staring at him. Or it would have been had it been possessed of eyes with which to stare. Bentley's hand would move to his short sword and the Dog seemed to take this cue, long insidious tongue slavering about its lipless mouth, seemingly to taste the air. Bentley slowly let his Scythe drop to the ground and drew the sword with a trembling hand.
A crack to his left and a heavy body smashing into his side was the last thing Bentley would ever remember physically feeling. As the blackness took him he sighed, dissapointed that he'd only brought in half the full ears of wheat ripened in the field.

The merchant Tavar of Wiltun muttered about people not keeping their appointments, he had Grain to ship to Ruathym and a half empty barge docked at Kohlingen cost him gold. Where the hell was that bumpkin Bentley. Or that halfwit Noman. Four farmers had failed to deliver their late harvest on time.
He'd make a complaint see if he didn't, these backwards Kohlingers, pah, holy nobles and warriors didn't understand that people had to eat and that he had timelines to meet to fill Wiltuns Granaries or he'd get fined for late delivery. Pah stupid nobles.

Around the Nexus hills baying laughter can be heard nightly.

Mim stared at the blisters, the scratches on her hands. Annoying...no pain, nothing she couldn't ignore...but annoyingly there all the time. The infrequent nausea had caused her to stop eating anything, which in turn had given her vicious stomach cramps from hunger. No one seemed that interested in finding out what happened, at least not with other people. Typical tall folk...greedy, singular in their goals. The Hin clenched her hands, feeling the raw skin, knowing that her legs, her back, stomach, even her face was all the same at the moment. Her own magic had barely made a dent in the disease, and none of the Salandran Priests seemed to be around. She looked out through the hollowed orc skull she wore as a helmet, holding up one finger, counting off the facts she knew. "One. I was attacked by Jackals that smelled like pain. Two. I was brought down by said Jackals. Three. When I was healed, I started itching and feeling like someone was watching me. Four. These blisters aren't painful. Five. Someone believes I have worms that'll...explode when I drink a potion, which I have done several times, so they're clearly a fecking loony. Six. The forest near the Dale is...rotting. Spiritually being corrupted or attacked." She looked at Ruin sitting above her in the tree, a goblin skull stuck between his mandibles. "That's six reasons for me to keep searching for answers, right? Then why can't I come up with anything solid? What am I missing?" The spider stared down at her as Mim settled in, sitting against a tree across from the Salandran Temple, eyes peeled for anyone who looked like a high priest. "After this, I'm talking to one of those damn druids...they can't have not noticed the corruption."

Another day another epic being of evil threatening the island of Amia, that was what Erelkacha thought to herself, perhaps it was a bit jaded and cynical but in her long years on the island she had seen, battled and delt with terrors beyond reckoning more times then she cared to remember. Of course she also knew that each and everyone had to be delt with, preferably as violently and aggressively as possible.
She paused and gazed skyward asking her goddess for strength and the power to confront yet another in the seemingly endless number of evils that intruded upon her life and loved ones. She set her shoulders dutifully and spread holy water around the garden perimeter followed by a prayer to her goddess.
Soon after she showed the Shrine Golems a pictures of a Cannoloth with an order for them to destroy any such creatures found in the Shrine on sight. Her days chores continued most of then mundane but required to keep the Shrine running smoothly.

Sir Justin and his patrol of food runners had again returned from a successful run to Caraigh. He enjoyed the runs and doing practical good works for it allowed him a much needed break from the many reports that demanded the seneschal's attention.
A new group of refugees had started coming to Kohlingen. Farmer families from the Nexus hills and farsides of Minimir bridge. Reports of Jackal demons known as Cannoloths reported in Amia woods and the Shekat Valley.
"Ilmater give us strength to face yet another evil. Tyr give us good judgement to determine our path to victory. Torm strengthen us with righteous fury to defeat this new evil."

A restless and weary Voronwer can be seen standing among the hills of the Nexus Falls at night, listening to the braying much as a wolf would stop and listen to the howls of a pack not its own.

Belalad can be seen doing a bit of research, a bit of this and that after the attack. Also due to rumors he has heard goes to have the Saladrians check over his wounds for infections.

Listening to reports of how the Canoloth seemed to be relatively unharmed by fire based weapons confirms the Seneschal's thoughts that demons used to heat would be susceptiple to cold. Now all that was needed was to put it to the test...

Passing through the Nexus region, the laughter heard softly at first startled Cecilia into recognition.
"Thank you." She spoke in that direction under the guise of invisibility and hastily turned away.

A certain Hin Druid went around the lake area of the central forest today, attempting some Detect Magic spells to check the area for a source.

*after returning from her trip to chult and setteling a few disputes, aswell as finally hearing the full story about the "jackals" from the shrine and that it is safe to kill the remains, Malandria begins to investigate in the central forest to try and locate the source of the stench. She does so independantly of our wolfish hin, however they likely occasionally cross paths*

The Canny foebeasts manage to confuse the trail it seems. Detect Magic cones work. . .only they seem to detect residual auras in any direction but the direction the spell was directed and at distances far further than 60 feet.

A Rash of killings in the Western Forests and Green Lake regions are reported by merchants taking a sup or two to calm their nerves in the Bendir Dale Inn.
- - -
Timber gatherers go missing every few days.
- - -
Occasionally a group of locals manage to bring down a beast only for its corpse to dissolve into a green bile.
- - -
Uncomfirmed rumours of further attacks on Merchant trains between Uhm and Wharftown fly about the drinking establishments of those two towns.

A large man in the green livery of wiltun can be seen patrolling the various roads of Amia alone, sometimes under heavy magic sometimes not. He does not keep an exclusive eye out for the creatures but he starts making more runs through some of the places that seem to have the most sightings and attacks by them.
He seems hyper alert regardless, looking around constantly in a manner suggesting he is somewhat agitated by events.

Certainly noticing the killings Western Forests and Green Lake, Malandria orders those of the Grove to increase their patrols in this area while of course, going there quite frequently herself.
