Hi folks. This is a question I wanted to ask since I returned to Amia. Where's everybody? Amia's loaded with players yet I haven't found a single soul on the first server for a long, long time (except of small groups of RPers camping in Amia Woods and hunting parties in certain regions), despite the server being filled up to the limits every night. Is everyone staying in Cordor (I'm banned from this town) and just teleporting themselves around with their wands? Gosh, Just a year ago the roads were full of travellers moving to and fro various settlements. The Northern Cordor Outskirts region was particularly busy. Yet nowadays, it seems to be like a desolated wasteland. I've set up a trap for greedy PCs there tonight, and waited for almost half an hour for someone to appear, but no-one never came out of the town. Amia2 seems to be a little better with it, as there's at least a small amount of player population doing their business in Wiltun Keep, but Underworld, for example, seems to be empty. Also, I remember a lot of goblins, kobolds and orcs running around. Now it's almost impossible to find one. What happened? It's not like I'm complaining (okay, maybe I am). I'm just trying to understand the situation I've encountered after a year-long pause. On Amia I remember from the past, there was always something going on. Every time I was logging in, I knew there would be something interesting to see or hear, some cool characters to meet, some great adventures to experience. Now, when I log in, I don't even know if I'll meet someone other than a hunting party in The Forest of Despair that is completely not interested in RP. Or maybe it's just me being unable to find myself in the world of Amia? It's possible. Nevertheless, this sucks. Makes me think to quit Amia for good.

If you're looking to run into random people, Bendir Dale and the forest crossroads are decently traveled. I do know exactly what you mean, though. I've been on with 50+ players and couldn't find a soul to talk to. Then there's be the one guy in the distance, I'd chase him, try to say hi, only to have them portal or cart away. Which is discouraging.

There's a lot of areas spanning both sides of the server, which has also risen the number of areas in which people may be playing. Sometimes it can be difficult to find them, but I would much rather have a vast world to explore and have the distances between "hot spots" be greater than have a small, clustered world. There are a number of big, on going events happening and from my observations, a lot of the player base is involved in at least one of those. There's definitely still people around and things going on. The crossroads of the forest is still a big loitering place, frequently. A lot of the cities have soon numbers in them periodically throughout the week.

Must agree. And once you find people, you see them just ignoring you or even your undead summon. Please, it's there so I can get at least somekind of RP!!!! I know, it's pretty pathetic, but very frustrating to be online for a few hours and no rp.

Ignoring people can be IC too.
Anyways, I tend to find people in Khem, Wiltun and Caraigh.

I've found you can smack people in the face with epic strength roles and nothing happens. Also I'm kinda suspicious that a lot of people just stand together and then switch to RP in part chat as to exclude others.
Took a some effort to get a reaction out of a druid when asking direction to tarkuul.

No one rarely ignores an undead or PM in the forest. It may be a bad thing for PMs but it is good to have it set that way as it's more realisitic.
Long gone are the days of public hang outs....now it seems everyone and their friends takes to hidden corners and rps with them....merely find a corner, make friends, and follow suit.
Kobolds definitely exist, but there's a decrease in Goblin/Orc activity...though there are in fact orcs and goblins about.
Wiltun almost always has someone travelling through it.
If I feel ignored I leave. I really don't wish to try to rp with someone who shows they obviously have no interest in rping with me. I rply chalk it up to the character ingnoring me and wander off. I don't screeny it and try to get them into trouble...that defeats the purpose, trying to make friends.
Asking a druid for directions to tarkuul is like asking an EO member for the same directions...you're lucky you weren't strung up....if i played a druid I would have taken it as an insult...or ignored you as well

Just follow people out of cordor square after a reset. eventually they'll lead you to the popular parking spots. Logical thinking might also not always be the best way to find them, you'd be surprised where people can gather for staring competitions.

It was gonna be said eventually. Removing these would make people use roads, although complete removal could stuff up the whole "I got stuck in a wall, I guess I'll just portal out then" situation. Maybe make them one way, to stop the god-awful habit of portaling back to town for supplies mid dungeon/travel/conversation. You'd have to do something about the carts, too, (Cost increase depending on total PC gold, affected by persuade/bluff/intim/appraise?), though they arn't as bad. But all this is kinda a tangent. It can be hard to find RP, but the areas mentioned above are generally not too bad, though what with portaling and carts, the only people you'll generally meet on the road are in RP groups, hunting groups, or new to the server.

I sort of agree with this. I used to play these games called Morrowind and then Oblivion. One of the things I hated about Oblivion was the fast travel option. It's mere existence made me lazily pick fast travel to go everywhere. In Amia the main use of portal rods I find to be vital is to get where you were before resets. Also since there are only so many players on at once people would be running all over the place to get to their destinations with little time to talk. But to be honest this doesn't really matter when concerning the topic at hand. People are around for sure....just not in easily locatable public places...and those publics are becoming less popular because vast problems always occur at said places.

Hang around major net areas. Where ships or carts drop people off. Merchent areas, mainly cordor n bendir. Post ic posts gathering people together. Buy a sign place it infront of a tavern stating free ale on Mr Reds Tab, sure to get a dwarf or two.

I don't think the problem is summer time as the first server is almost always full of people on evenings and nights. Yesterday it reached maximum population and yet there was nobody to meet outside of Cordor, which I found very frustrating. I feel people are not as open to others any more as they used to be, and they find that RPing with already made friends, in favourite places, is all they need. The presence of portal wands doesn't help with this situation, as it considerably decreases chances of meeting someone new. Though I don't endorse the complete removal of wands, I think something should really be done with them, in order to make people utilise roads for travelling more often.
And can I say how hard it is to approach an already RP-involved bunch of players? Especially when they camp by the tents in some sweet spot of the world? I feel their thoughts are always like: "Oh great. Now some idiot is going to interrupt us." Not to mention that groups of people are always very trigger happy and it's easy to end up with a shiner from whatever reason.

Alternate solution: an RP People List, just like the Party People List. Put yourself on this list if you're seeking people to RP with, they send you a tell, and then you can OOCly know where your character needs to wander to in order to find people.

What are summer vacation and what do you mean by RL? I have heard of this RL, it has bad graphics, bad characters and even worse storyline! <.< No, but seriously: It ain't about the season. Though, with my fey character I get easily rp, as she jumps in (Being better with the social things.) But with more.. eh.. serious characters it isn't an option.

I feel their thoughts are always like: "Oh great. Now some idiot is going to interrupt us." Nah. It's more like "Finally, someone new has happened by! How long's it to take for these folks to explore every corner of the map anyway?" Getting involved in RP that's going on already is sorta like dropping in during the second season of Friends, you can join in laughing but you may not get what's going on at first. Other than that, if you make a point of getting to know the other characters, inside a week or two of regularly dropping by you'll become known to most. After a few months you will be missed if you don't drop by one night. The initial approach is not hard, but you have to listen a bit and then if this is the sort of people your character should hang out with from time to time, think how they would introduce themselves. It's not enough to just say "Hi, I'm Richard" (unless you're in a webcomic) you have to set yourself apart from all the other people that have wandered by. Perhaps your character is a bit shy and just waves before they say anything at all in greeting? Perhaps they're bold and have come up with a slogan to go with their name. Remember Lord Flashheart from Blackadder? So hotkey it and use that same sort of greeting over and over (with some variations to spice it up) and you will stick in their minds.

It's really intimidating breaking into others RP, I'm not entirely sure -why- it is though.
I love it when someone jumps on in uninvited, so to speak, it makes it feel more real to me. I think everyone does, really - you can't take PC reactions to that as OOC ones though.
I mean, if you intrude on a stereotypical evil character - don't expect them to give you a cuddle and become your best friend ^_^.
But even if they're being mean to you, I'm sure they're loving every second of it!

It's easy to get involved with other people's RP. This is my formula: All it takes is a simple ice breaker (ex: Stopping to ask for directions, etc.) followed by a segway (ex: Oh! How silly of me, my compass must be off! By the way, the name is _________. I couldn't help but overhear you speaking about _________. That is absolutely fascinating! Mind if I stick around?, etc) and you are in like Flynn. Worst that can happen is they tell you to get lost... wait a minute... That's RP too!

The other thing that you may notice is that players who notice your presence may delay their next line waiting to see if you're about to do something or whether you're going to move on. The sudden 'silence' can act as a psych-out as well.

You have this impression from the IC reaction of the characters or someone said that to you OOCly? It sounds odd to me because they are standing there to have some interaction with those who are passing by. Also for example my knights are going out for a patrol to come across with other people...good or bad...it doesn't really matter.

Sometimes it can take awhile before you start seeing regular people. Bendir cart area is pretty active though. I remember many nights of small talk in Cordor before I found some regulars. I like Wiltun on B as well. I see people in Kampos too often. I'm also on the list of people who's play time is limited because of the summer and the need to enjoy the outdoors before I lock my tropical arse away from the cold and snow.

Oh my God! I've met an orc in Wiltun! And an old buddy from the Buckies. Tally-ho! Gives me more mental strength to continue with my character. The Wiltun Keep is really a perfect place for the people banned from the evil city of Cordor. Jeez, it may have sounded a bit childish, but after a several weeks' time of not being able to run upon anyone on AmiaI, this encounter was a real blessing.
