I now cordially invite you all to mock my utter ignorance of all computer-related issues.

What does "Master server not available" mean, and what effect, if any, does it have on Amia?

It means the Bioware server is down. From what I heard, it's down because of the hacker attack.

It means some very bad things, but not on Amia because of our safety systems.

I think it means you can't hook up with Gamespy or something about it is on the fritz, if your're talking about the message that pops up sometimes before logging into online games.

I've noticed for me it hasn't been able to connect for the past couple of days, but never found it to have an effect with connecting to any server I might play. I think it's just something with Bioware being all jacked now and whatnot.

//dammit pally!

I think all the hacker jackers should be hung to the nearest palm trees by their nuts and beaten to death with red gnome caps with those little jingle bells attached to them.

Fucking bastards harassing decent folk just for the kicks they get! Jerk off instead of bugging us, damn it!

It will likely be this way indefinitely there is no money to be had in hosting a server for a 10 year old game. Thanks EA, your swell.

Well to be honest it isn't really a viable business model to be hosting expensive servers for free. Somehow it is actually suprising they have been up as long as they have.

I doub tthey will be down indefinitely without some sort of announcement. Let's not pull down the sky.

XD and also your rage sustains them. Gotta be zen about it, man.

But yeah I noticed this happened not long after the attack. Direct Connect by IP works, so I don't really care XD
Figured they just took them down for a bit. I only got worried yesterday when I saw the Bioware site was down lol

Beyond that, they really don't loose that much money hosting the servers. That said, though, someone should work on a third party replacement for the Gamespy thingie :3

Oh thats not what I meant at all, naturally they'll be quick to inform people if they want to do something drastic. It was rather an argument against pointing fingers at EA for something that can't really be put at their shoulders.

Edit: As a small side note, you can still get into amia even though the master server is down, at least I managed to get through without direct connecting.

Yeah, been happening to me the last couple of days, and you can still get in fine. Just go make a cup of tea or something when it sits at the "Connecting" message, it only takes about 60 seconds.

So what you are saying... there is no NWN online?

There is NWN online, just no Bioware master server, which means account security (unless you have a nice bit of security built into the actual hosted server, like we do) is at an alltime low.

Any server that requires password authentication will not work if the master server is down. This is why CD authorization is a far better system, it does not need the Master Server.

The only draw back I've found to this is that I can't play the premium games. No authentication server to connect to.
