Is there a plan to nerf SD's?
If so, what is the planned nerf?
Should SD's be nerfed? They already have quite a few disadvantages. For example, every mage who has a familiar has a pseudodragon, which can see them. Same as well for shapeshifters...

They'll be required to submit a typed, double spaced request including backstory, character's reasons for being an SD, RP towards learning the art (no less than 4 pages), and screenshots showing training for access to the special SD shops. Furthur screenshots of classroom time will be required if their story involves the Three Steps Academy and possession fo the SJ widget. This holds true for current SDs as well as newly created ones in the future.
And yes this is utter rubbish.

Not to mention anyone polymorph self, or the scroll. SD's have one trump card which is HIPS, and it's not that hard to foil.

These topics invariably degenerate into a class based pissing contest and while its no secret I am firmly on the "Keep your fingers off my HIPS you damn dirty humans" side.
If and when a nerf happens it will be put here by the dev's and no doubt throughly discussed ad naseum to the point of wanting to give ones self a qwerty tatoo to their forehead.
I am sure we can all be mature and reasonable adults about this sure to enjoy the discussion to come.

Every character concept can fit epic spot with 100+ points. If you don't like SDs (or corner sneakers), do that or the other dozen things to outmatch sneaks.

I believe (from what I have read in these sort of discussions) is that the 'butthurt' everyone refers to is that the attack queue gets broken. It's not that they can hide quickly, it's that people juggle it so they can totally screw up the attack queue of their enemy.
I think?

I ask because I am considering trying an SD for the first time and am wondering if it is going to be worth it to even try. Scuttlebutt says SD's are getting ready to be nerfed.

What I have heard is that there is a cooldown timer that will be initiated. At face value, that won't kill SD's. I can only see it killing them if it takes way too long before you can use HiPS again. I have faith in the devs to not kill the class, though. They have balanced everything else nicely so far! And yes, to everyone, I have a char that is and SD (level 10 actually) and another that will have HiPS. So I'm not saying nerf it cause I don't use SDs.

6 seconds has been the stereotypical number thats applied to it to make it into a per round thing as opposed to a free action like it is in 3rd. But yes, time will tell before we see what kind of changes are made to appease the near decade long bitchfest.

I am fine with 3s to 6s.

Leave SD alone, leave it alone!
No, really. The class is fine. People are lazy.
But more seriously, hasn't this been gone through at least a thousand times, the conclusive reason as to why this hasn't been implemented yet being lag?

Yeah, I bet it was really fast and slick too? Besides, the creatures can and have been changed from the Mezoic era you're stuck in. Try pulling out that trick again, and you'll find your character dodo-bear-wolf food before you even notice it.

The AI will target you, if you hips right next to them sometimes and completely ignore your hide score. I've had goblins outside Cordor attack my SD when I entered hips right next to one. Which is both a good and a bad thing. Mostly good.

BROOOOOOKEN. I abused the hell out of HIPS spam, of course. The last two points, IMO, are what is creating the 'bitchfest'. A cooldown would be ok I guess...but in all fairness...it doesn't take a number of seconds for a PM to be able to insta-kill anyone as just one example. Or make it a widget, like SJ....give that Academy something to do

I haven't read all the replies, but I'll put my two cents in. I hope to god that SD's don't get nerfed. HIPS is a great trump card, and of course an SD staple. Regular warriors can't usually see it without the poly scroll, though creatures with familiars can(not thrilled about that) I don't want to start some huge waaahh-fest, so I'll say I'm fairly ok with those scroll users spotting spotting SD's, though I'm not a big fan of the familiar being able to see you so easily. Crazy high spotters are a give in, they totally deserve to be able to be an SD bane. At least it isn't default nwn true sight. That made rogues and SDs so utterly useless. Basically what I'm saying is, at least it is fair that the ways an SD can be seen (unless your a spotter) relatively weaken the observer. You can't see the SD, but the familar can, and I don't think your in much of a position to fight as a polymorphed hulk at higher levels. Though I'd easily say I want my SD to only get spotted by those with high spot and listen, that would make the SD virtually untouchable especially with the implement of epic dodge. Overall the class is fine where it is.. kind of seems counter productive to have a topic about it, if you don't want it nerfed.
