I find this odd...
Patch 1.69 won't install over Polish NWN Diamond edition. Even stranger, that I once got it working from this very source:

Any ideas how to make it runnin'?
It just says that NWN has not been installed! Whadda? I've just typed in three serial numbers! Twice - as I a have tried reinstalling the game too.
OS is Win7 Pro x64.
Any ideas guys on how to install that patch?

Any way to force the patch to be installed? I find the whole situation ridiculous.
I can open the archive with 7zip and see two directories:
S0
$_OUTDIR
Where do I extract them?

I'm pretty sure if you attempt to upgrade and it doesn't go through it'll give you a link for the critical rebuild, go to the link and follow the intructions, wouldn't upgrade for mine when I installed either

Well, yeah. After checking some stuff, the automatic update spits out something like (rough translation):

But the page given does not even exist!

PS. Running this game is getting harder every install I make.

Whadda!? What kind of trickery is that?

Guys, please take a deep breath and listen to the weird tale of mine.
It seems that NWN installer was designed the way to completely ignoring modern OS protection.
If you're using a user account with limited privileges, like I do, things like above will happen. If you install the game from such an account, even when it asks you for admin password, it won't install properly. You'll have to log in as administrator to do things right. And you'll have to run the game with administrator's privileges to make it work (with WinXP SP3 compatibility mode selected). It took me several hours to figure it out, lads.
What a crock of shit BioWare served us here. Okay, our game is old, but its designer should update some stuff to make it work on modern systems and user configurations, dammit.

Um... considering the last three patches to the game (1.67, 1.68, 1.69) were basically done by one or two dudes on their free time, I don't think you have a lot of room to complain. the game is old: There's your answer.

The fact that NWN1's needed admin priveleges to run has been known for a good... idk. 5 -6 odd years? Running in admin should be your first fix to everything, with the second being "run in compatibility", anyways.

Polish 1.69 patch, it was totally made by the community, AKA no official release from BioWare about this one.

Automatic update will not work with Windows 7, you have to do critical rebuild

Once you get it working, back it up into an external harddisk. No more installation and patch application!

I just got a laptop with Windows 7 64-bit. I had no trouble installing or updating to 1.69. Just use this. It's a link directly to the 1.69 critical rebuild executable on the Bioware website.

That's the English version of the patch you got there.

Paxus needs the Polish one. The English one would lead to some issues with texting and whatnot with a different language version.

Ah, sorry for my late reply, but I had some important real life stuff that got me distracted. So, I managed to install the patch and make it running the same evening when I started the thread. A word of advise chaps, if you ever come back hammered from the pub, don't try to install NWN. Yeah, I admit to the crime.

Dear @Tormak, in normal circumstances when UAC asks you for an admin password, it should be enough to install something. But I guess that I should be more forgiving for an oldie like NWN. You're right. I had to physically log in as admin and install it from there.

Yups. I don't say it's the smart thing for a program to make you do, but it often solves the situation and since for many people it's not a security issue to log as admin, it's normally the first step.
