That's right folks, the developers have been hard at work these past few months, and you're about to get a glimpse of the results!

Amian Cleric Domains!

Image

The team has compiled a list of Amian-specific domains to broaden the roleplaying potential of our divine servants. With these domains will come more spells for clerics to choose from, as well as prayer effects to display your divine patronage! The new domains are as follows:

Balance
Cavern
Chaos
Charm
Cold
Community
Courage
Craft
Darkness
Dragon
Dream
Drow
Dwarf
Elf
Fate
Gnome
Halfling
Hatred
Illusion
Law
Luck
Moon
Nobility
Orc
Portal
Renewal
Repose
Retribution
Rune
Scalykind
Slime
Spell
Time
Trade
Tyranny
Undeath

With these new domain additions, the Bioware default domains will also be receiving minor changes in granted spells. Now, I know what you're thinking...

"Gee Shadow, these are awesome! What's the damn catch..."

Well, now that we have such a large list of domains to choose from... All Clerics will be required to take two of their deity's listed domains.

This will be enforced by a script, but fear not, clerics that have already been created will be able to gain the appropriate domains in the Entry Room. This will also be allowed for clerics who simply want to broaden their abilities through the new domains. Do keep in mind, you can only do this once without a request.

This'll get here when it gets here, so be patient!

Special Thanks To:
PaladinofSune - For compiling relevant domains.
Jehran - Scripting!
Anade_Evriana - Typing the descriptions
MoshingChris - Going through... 3 computers in his attempts to fine tune everything. (love ya :D)

And the rest of the Dev/DM team for discussing and contributing in their own special ways.

Also this. Having a cleric with non-deity domains is just... bad? *nods* That's the word! It's good to see that this is able to be enforced soon :D

( And yup, this comes from a player with two clerics that have domains from their deity only ;D )

I'm assuming that the PnP spells aren't given.

Nope. The spells are Bioware default, aside from the fact that you can now cast them as clerics. Of course the same rules with PnP spells still apply.

No Repose Domain (assuming your speaking of Ramas) will substitute with the neutral outsider until I come up with some new summons for it.

That said don't count chickens before hatch hendawg.

We've only got technical spreadsheets at the moment so I'll have to say wait and see. ETA on this is done when its done, the warning is just a small one so no-one gets butt hurt when their character can no longer cast spells because their domains don't match.

I'm quite certain most of the evil portions of the Draconic pantheon would gladly turn humans into minority status so that you may have your own racial domain. Please report to the nearest Chromatic lair for subjugation and digestion(If elven, or babies or even better, elven babies.)

Its your own fault for your gods not being racist enough anyway, Look at the elves. Learn. Yes. Good.

There's too much to list it all right now, but each deity has six available domains. In some cases, they've had appropriate domains added if they didn't possess six in PnP.

No new spells. Some of the special domain abilities are custom scripted, however.

Nobanion: Animal, Good, Law, Nobility. Strength is already a replacement domain, I guess that will stay. And that the extra one is Community. I've never heard of some of these domains, though. Community domain? Colour me curious.

How will we be handling clerics that currently have domains that match their deities but want to change to newly offered ones that match them better? Is it going to be a request still or is there going to be a one time only change in domains since there are suddenly new ones?

I'm guessing the former, but I figured I might as well air the question for others that are curious ^_^

http://www.d20srd.org/srd/divine/domains.htm

You'll notice Family is missing, whereas Community is not. Some domains were simply combined into one if they were very similar in spells/concept for the sake of brevity. Storm is another example - it's combined into Air.

Huh. Well, look at that. I see lots of PnP spells. But I can guess how it might translate. Charm Person instead of Calm Emotions, maybe. Still, curious as to see how it might end out.

...It's not that I play (or have ever played) a Cleric, mind. But might consider picking up a level or two if theres something fun on the table. Certainly interesting!

I know I was a bit uneasy to say we should enforce domains before, but I with these added ones, it will work out okay I'm sure. More choices within the same deities, what have you.

On a sidenote, I shall consider making a cleric of Shaundakul with Portal Domain, named Glados. >_>

Yeah, it is a pretty awesome change. And as far as I am concerned, every cleric PC should have the opportunity to switch things around with this change, whether they actually have to or not, due to new but still applicable domains being offered.

The question is do we let what each domain presents be known publicly before or after this change. Or at all.

I personally think they should be added to the Amia wiki, but after this whole "free change" period is up and over. That way, if you legitimately think your cleric would be better off with this domain over this other one, you're changing it for RP reasons, not "Sweet, my deity just got a domain that gives Imp Invis, I'm changing!".

I am very interested to see what the domain abilities look like for these domains as well.

I like that idea, even though blindly picking things with mechanical advantages is simply not a fundamental part of the game. I wouldn't subject people to that (especially ourselves as DMs from the resulting lynch mob), but I applaud the notion anyway.

It should be up to the player to decide if he/she wants to chose the domain for RP over mechanical.
Domains are already going to be enforced, which is a step in the right direction.
Forcing people to choose blind, is not.

I think something that would be useful in choosing between domains would be the information in regards to what multiple domains from PnP go into making up the new NWN equivalents.

Also, thanks Mosh this is beastly.

True Fact: RP server is also a build oriented server.
All the cards have to be laid out for a level playing field.
High powered domains will remain highly subscribed.
Low powered domains will remain lowly subscribed.

I'm pretty certain the launch of this system is saying that "No, in fact it is not up to the player." Either your character follows their god because they follow the god's with faith or belief in their divine edict and purpose, or they follow that belief because its convenient for your build. I also fail to see how you say both 'It should be up to the players!' but.. 'This is a step in the right direction!' ..Conflict much?

Dramatic_Prince wrote:

It's a RP server. There's nothing wrong with not wanting your character to suck and doing the best with the pieces your concept has available to it and asking for help if you're not good at doing that.

You also make the assumption that the people balancing these domains are r-tards or something. They're being redone, one would think that in doing so that this would be done with balance in mind.. and maybe they will perchance ...balance things out?

Svensk wrote:

There's no such thing as perfect balance without everything being the same. But there's close enough, something which the current system has shown it isn't.

You're reading too much into Dramatic's posts. The topic is blind choosing, which Dark Immolation tossed out there as a cool idea, and Yossarin liked but correctly noted that it's not in line with the idea of the game. Seems to me all Dramatic is saying is that the mechanical details should be known. Which is absolutely common sense in a game like this and the only possible solution towards fair play. And it's going to happen too, nobody's said anything to the contrary. So there's no problem.
