If you make it random and have only one of the items available per reset, you merely have made people stop killing every boss and made them go to the merchant.

If you make it random and have whatever random item there able to be purchased in mass quantities, you will have the boss hunting crowd stock up and sell the items for exorbitant prices because not everyone would be able to make the trip.

I see no solution in that.

Yes, its the lesser of two evils to have the selection as a random one each reset and even then only one of those items available at a time. Either way it means people will try and crowd said merchant but it could be scripted so as it randomly generates the number of pieces of epic loot once per player per reset. Meaning you can only talk to the merchant once per reset and the items are available are generated randomly.

Bearing in mind that they buyer has had to fight through all kinds with his party to get there already and even then they actually need to have said gold for said items.

Merchants can still sell these items on then and because the cost will be inflated, the value of gold will go up again and the value of traded items will go down as they arent so freely available.

*facepalms* no for the love of god no, not again, no. please? no.

last time I suggested solve it icly, within a day someone tries to assassinate hil'rash, and blame very particular auctioners. no. we don't need to hear the fifteen billion different idea's again.

if I recall the fix is everyone, loses every item, including storage, am I correct?

we don't need the fifty page thread again.

I seem to recall from the last time this discussion came around that the team stated there was going to be no inventory wipe ever and not to suggest it again so as not to cause some mass panic.

I am sure someone will dig up the link for me who has better search skills than myself.

Heh. We said no character wipe. Never said anything about an inventory wipe if we have to ovehraul the economy. Hell, that's pretty much the only way it will work thanks to certain people with 15+ bags of holding of nothing but +5 loot that I'm certain they need for.... something, right?

Tormak, if theres an inventory wipe, they will just go through boss hunting even more to try and get back what was taken, so really, I think there needs to be just a epic loot wipe, and potentially a gold wipe, and really the only epic loots that should drop be mythals for crafting, or make mythals part of dm events or buyable with dc's *shrug* just my thoughts on it

In the case of Vaelmith's large amount of items of high quality or Epic, he had originally been maintaining the Weave Knight Armoury primarily but.. with them no longer around and with the Monolith no longer about, I think he'd be more then happy to try to find good homes for all that armament and raiment.

I think you fail to understand the idea of revamping the inventory and loot system.

Tormak is saying they would make gold farming and epic loot farming not ablee to be done, like all loot would be yellow, that sells for like like 25-50% of what normal loot bin items sell for(or something to lower gold coming in). Bosses might be harder and one spawn per reset.... crap like that.

ok, but then the inventory wipe would remove all the current yellow and normal loot as well, hence my original recomendation of just removing epic loot

What about 'upgrading' the Magic on the server... Add a higher tier, so to speak?

Yes let's make everyone grind for +6 weapons that are slightly better than their existing +5 weapons... not!

If anything we should be gently pushing things in the direction of less magical items.

People whined about the Internet when it came out first, Too. It was a bad idea that nobody would use. =)

Honestly. You're looking for the perfect solution, But won't accept that it doesn't exist. - Work with what you have or broaden your views.

It's basically an apocalyptic gold-muncher.

When you have a petition with a hundred player names on it, waiving any losses that may be incurred to those players as a result of any changes or fixes, then we'll speak more on it.

You misunderstand. When you have a hundred names, then it's time to start to talk seriously about changes and the implications. Without having the players on board and open to the idea of losing some of what they have gained, it's just not going to work. If we dive into an explanation now, then we'll get the same old General Discussion treatment and the topic will get buried as players silently decide they won't support it and would rather discuss something else.

Obviously there is some kind of an up-side, otherwise why mention it at all, but as I said, it'll take a hundred players all singing the same tune for it to start to happen.

can we just not change it and save the hastle of half the server leaving again? i'm not joking. you know what happened with dev crit and that was nothing compared to what your suggesting.

ed: imagine as an example someone has managed to collect all the ioun stones, without soloing bosses, and by spending a long time RPing and collecting odd bits of cash. imagine the look on their face when they see an empty inventory and zero gold. then imagine a level 15 who cannot survive without heal kits, oh im sorry, you now have zero gold and all your items are gone. good luck!

i'm not trying to be snarky here i'm just saying, its a -bad- idea to wipe the inventorys.

Let's fear-monger with completely unrealistic examples of things that wouldn't happen... not!

A complete inventory wipe is not a solution as much as it is an instant end to player interest in the server. So, it's not going to happen.

What if soloers get -1% to epic loot drop chance for every 5 or 10 epics they possess? Certainly not a perfect plan, but something to build upon. It would at least encourage grouping up with people and add the rp it entails when socializing and lower the motivation of people soloing to a certain extent. Soloing with a 3% chance of drop for example, can be rather discouraging I would think.

I don't have anything against soloers, since there can be several IC reasons to do it, like testing yourself against mighty opponents, being a hero and slaying evil, being an artifact collector etc.

IC reason: The more loot you carry, the greater are the odds that a treasure hungry dragon will be able to seek you out and steal what you have. :) Ok, not perfect either, but an example that isn't unlikely, due to a dragons keen senses.

I think, boss hunting used to be a lot easier with old school dev crit and no limit of boss per reset. Added to that, the heal nerf, no gold cap penalty on respawn, is a pretty big hit on people who would rather solo,
and even,
- Babylon has fortitude and earthquakes;
- Windy goes crazy sometimes and thrashes people with wings;
- Snowy needs no comment, always someone on the party will die to either blizzards or her huge hits, and chance of no spawn;
- Domimagus, brain sucking at it's best;
- Pirate has a dispelling crazy loot box;
- Darkness and fgk are gimicky but have huge dungeon to go through;
- Vamps have kids and traps.
- Actand... should i meantion this?
- Maximus, the ghosts won't always spawn;
- Beholder majesty? it used to be a good choice, but ts spawns, and crazy casting mode has made her the toughes of bosses.
- Amia forest elemental. ehh.. good luck trying that solo!
Can anyone really go through all these bosses?
Also, if they do chose to do it all by themselves? won't they obviously run into some other party? since they've visited every hunting ground, that would only be possible when there is 5 people on amia a afking , and 0 people on b.
And if a party goes through a dungeon, they want to try out the boss, really put out the hurt on a single spawn, throw those smites, and GR's, dispells and ki crits.And what's so bad about getting a little loot every so often, gives your char the hope of selling it, buying a bunch of potions and etc.
Now.. to making things a bit fairer and better, lot's been suggested, svensk even noted, that we should broaden our views and see what we have in play.
Well, regarding epic loot, i feel it gives fresh chars a very good reason to team up and adventure, makes boss fights exciting, and gives prospect beyond the usual char gear. Older chars , these may or not have found their *holy sword +5* if they do have it, along with other epic loots that helps them along, that just shows what can be gained through hardwork and persistence, motivating others, as in any other investment area, older dogs usually have learned the ropes and carry some advantages over the new player.
So.. what's left to change? the hunt itself? to deny players the boss fight? to rid people of their char's life work, their hoards? why is it, that something needs changing, and, now, that things have reached a certain balance, so to speak. if you just look at it from another perspective you'll see things aren't that bad either!

I really don't see this as a huge problem, but I'll still put in my two cents.

How about allowing the mythal crafting system to do more and have all epic bosses just drop this nice mythal so nobody has to do as much to get the gear they want.

Seeing Yoss old post is no longer around, I would be actually very interested to hear the detailed option of a fix by him with his now better insight. This also goes for Tormak's mentioned plan of whining, as I find posts that just say "I have a fix, but I do not have to post it as people will whine" not very helpful.

From time to time, I see how quickly my characters can can get back to running for +4 loot when they start out with zero equipment; just a 1gp tunic from the tailor in Cordor.

It's a no-brainer for pure casters; they can stompada the giants quite happily from the word go, but it's fun for the tankier types.

This isn't a comment on the issue of inventory wipes; just making a suggestion for an interesting thing to do of an afternoon.

I posted a whole rant about this thread, then immediately edited it all out. It's not worth my time.

People play differently. If that means boss-hunting, that's what they do. If it's RPing, that's what that person does. I can't see how this thread could produce anything useful; I'm out.

Amia is a RP server. Having fun with adventure is part of that.

But it shouldn't be all that is done. A well balanced meal of fantasy says I and I, makes for a healthy gaming experience.

Well if players would play responsibly then it would be a healthy gaming experience. Anyone who's been logged in for more than twelve hours in one sitting can probably tell you that it has effects, especially on the gluteus maximus.

lol ive played for a few days straight during some epic faction parties and after a few hours i start getting delusional and dehydrated and i think i might forget to eat or sleep but ya its where the real gamers have fun >..> (dont do this.)
anyway, as far as my thoughts on how well the epic loots is working, i dont really solo bosses but i have gotten epic loot drops most often from the pirate and dom though they were through some fun rping and an adventure, not mindless grinding. It is fun and there are only a handful of people i know personally that do nothing but boss farm and those people i am not worried about in the slightest, i dont feel like theyre trying to become teh uper dude of amia so let them have their cake. The thing i have a problem with is the design of some of the dungeons like mind flayers being so linear and honestly boring, mind flayers would never have such an easily taken stronghold. nor would beholders, but hey im not a dev nor a dm so my words weigh nothing here i know that, ive been told. just my 2 cents, fix the adventure aspect and force those soloers into a party.

Boss hunting is something to do when there is nothing to do. It's better than standing around in Cordor or Amia Forest talking about the weather.

What's the problem with boss hunting?

My guess is that some people don't want other characters to have epic loot because they have none, or maybe boss hunting takes many many hours in order to get something useful. I don't see how epic loot distorts the economy either. The prices for epic loot is high because it should be high. The economy balances itself out with supply and demand.

The problem with that is that most epic loot isn't really sold, but is traded for other epic loot. Meaning that it creates an even larger riff between the haves and the have-nots. If epic loot was actually being sold more often than traded, it wouldn't create as much of a problem. Basically, the system that is in place currently further perpetuates the boss-hunting.

This.

This is exactly why Tyrus is slowly attempting to change the market. He finds epic loot that is usually only traded? Guess what? He's going to sell it for actual gold. Small changes here and there, slowly starting a trend. Tyrus knows this and, tired of some of the choking prices he sees, is seeking to change the status quo.

How is this a problem?
"I don't want to hunt for epic loot but I want it?"
The nice thing is that unlike DCs, it is completely in the player's hands to obtain. It's actually a fairer system.
More importantly though, with the mythal system, I dare say Epic loot helps but isn't compulsory.

Methinks the gold economy is knackered because you can't help but get loads of it while on your way to kill the bosses.

If there was a veneer of IC plausibility to being charged 5% of your gold every time you spawned a boss as an ECL 30, that'd be lovely. Especially for folk in that ECL25-29 stretch, who'd suddenly find themselves in demand from the bossrunners.

Perhaps the ghost of the boss could come back to haunt you? Haunt your wallet, anyway. This would happen at some randomly determined time a couple of RL days after you spawned it, which ought to make it less easy to bypass the system by banking gold with other players.

I like reading these and seeing how many players lack even the basic understanding of any economy, not just amia's. If my vote even count, a server wipe might work. I would recommend DM Rewards and DC items stay of course.

And I'm one of the guilty parties who have more crap than I will ever need, want, or desire on Rikkudai.

On the topic of bosshunting. This is for those who want Bosshunting to be a team effort. Do you think Aussies or early europeans will be able to participate in such with that low number of players online?
Don't make it a Timezone thing.

The screenie is from my usual playtime.(A monday)

interesting enough though. a couple years ago, it was hard to find it with less then 65 players at any given time,if it's a refining of the player base, might be ok, but seems so surprising when i do see it full now.

Perhaps the ghost of the boss could come back to haunt you? Haunt your wallet, anyway. This would happen at some randomly determined time a couple of RL days after you spawned it, which ought to make it less easy to bypass the system by banking gold with other players
Or better yet, make it so bosses are always too cowardly to come and face the mighty ECL30's unless they tempt them out with bait, the bait being a single use item that is sold in suitable shops and costs tens of thousands of gold.

Fire King: blow a horn to challenge him to a duel for the throne
ASB/Windreaper: steak made of some exceptionally tasty animal
Mindflayer Dom: open a jar containing the brain of some rare animal we homebrew which is the cerebral equivalent of caviar.
Pirate Cap'n: crack open a barrel of the finest grog in all the planes.
Babylon: an even skimpier bikini, covered in diamonds.
Bidoc: a pair of built-up shoes that don't look it

Maximus and the Actand bosses can just charge ECL30's the money to work the phylactory and make the crossing, respectively.
