Well, not too long ago, I realised that Alt+Tabbing a fullscreened NWN was really difficult, and switched to Windowed mode. Now, following no apparent pattern, the game sometimes randomly simulates a click somewhere on the screen when I move back into NWN. That means that every time I move back into the game, there is a chance of my character randomly running off or using an ability, and that is very annoying. Any ideas as to why it is happening? I am currently running Win7, if that helps.

It's not randomly simulating a click. You're clicking the NWN window to bring it back into focus... which is a click in the game, so it's doing what your click would do.

Nope, it also happens when I use Alt+Tab or the taskbar.

I had the same problem, and since I've been using window mode for years I feel silly that I just figured this out not too long ago.
If you pull your mouse all the way over on the right side of your screen, until you can't see it, then ALT+tab into NWN it -should- not make you zoom across the map. At least it cuts the amount down by a fair bit.

If you've set it to Windowed mode, do Alt+Enter, not Alt+Tab. It should work.

Alt+Enter... toggles Windowed mode... I'm trying to multitask here!
That seems really annoying, River. There must be some other solution.

I stay in windowed mode and can click anything on the taskbar to open up any other screen and then click back to NWN without running around everywhere. Then I can Alt+Enter back to full screen if I wish. *shrug*

If you find a better solution PLEASE let me know because I've been using the thing for seven years almost and I haven't found another way besides just to keep my mouse off of where I know the NWN screen is and ALT+tab to NWN.

It is a windowed mode problem for sure, the easiest and painless way to avoid it is to simply hit escape before you alt-tab out, or examine yourself or an item.
Those windows that get brought up disable quickslot use and movement. So you can alttab to hearts content.

If you can click in the NWN window instead of using Alt-Tab, you can click your mouse wheel in it to regain focus and avoid the 'oh god look at that I better rush over there' problem.

I find if I Alt-Tab away while my cursor is on the quickslots, when I Alt-Tab back, it ends up simulating a key press. I've wasted a lot of Heal potions that way...
Dunno if it applies to your situation though!

I've used Windowed Mode ever since I learned it existed, several years ago, and I can say that I have never had the random-clicking problem. Maybe that's just because I don't use Alt-Tab and just click out of the window when I feel like doing something else instead. Or perhaps not... I just tried Alt-Tabbing instead, but when I tabbed back into it, it didn't click. That's probably not very helpful, but since it doesn't do it to everyone, my guess is it's a hardware thing, an error on your (and some others') end.

If you ever see me randomly Earthquake for no reason. It is always due to this. I feel your pain. I've been stood in the forest before, and Earthquaked for no reason, with about 15 people or so come running at me like "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!". Bad times.

If you're in windowed mode.. you don't need to alt tab you know. CLick the minimize button or outside the window. Then when you want back in, click on the taskbar not the actual game. Since it's part of the border and not actually part of the game, it doesn't freak nwn out.
Getting Windows 7 also solved this for me with alt+tab though <.< Mainly because I can alt tab to desktop rather than another window as well.

Hmm, a thread to encourage us to find better ways to do other things while trying to role-play, nice. S'ok, I'll stand there and wait 15 minutes for an answer to a question asked, and just end up re-typing it because it was missed anyway, story of my character's life.

Alt+Tab is faster and easier than clicking the taskbar buttons, which is why I do it. But, yeah... this happens to me too. Usually I end up doing Curse Song, so if you all of a sudden see Xavi shout angrily for no apparent reason...

But great for random environment issues in RP lol Xaviera wrote: Alt+Tab is faster and easier than clicking the taskbar buttons, which is why I do it. But, yeah... this happens to me too. Usually I end up doing Curse Song, so if you all of a sudden see Xavi shout angrily for no apparent reason... Hah! I've seen that XD But yeah, Win7 and windowed mode (and even fullscreen mode) has issues. If I am in fullscreen and go back to windows, then come back to NWN there's usually no problem (sometimes have to swap back and forth [read: not windowed mode] a few times before I can actually click in the game [else clicking just takes me back to Windows instead]). If I am in windowed and I Alt+Tab to get into fullscreen, then the screen usually flickers a few times and then I'm either in the game or I have the Windows mouse pointer, clik, and am back in Windows, then have to click back into NWN. Silly Windows and old games I'm usually in windowed mode (cause I'm a forum/Google search whore), unless I'm hunting so that way I have a bigger viewing screen. Course, when I go to fullscreen my eyes go 'Woah! So that's how big I remember the screen being' Haha

if your using the internet click the nwn window first, the bar bit at the top preferably, to regain focus without casting hellball for example >_>
no end of times has winamp decided to open when I press alt+enter to mini nwn, its a glitch.

I used to fix this just by pressing Alt + X a few times, until i switched to Windowed mode. It was either Alt+X or Z, one of the two.

I find this problem occurs when you press the mouse wheel to turn the camera angle, usually clicking the portrait before tabbing out/using windowed mode works for me.

I alt tab in, and alt tab out. I also leave the in game cursor in the middle of the field or on the party bar, so if i -do- click in it doesn't do that.

I have no idea what you are talking about - Alt+Enter toggles Fullscreen on and off, and this is not what I am trying to do.
