No, because my character doesn't KNOW yet. I can't do anything about it IC until I meet one who is at least willing to cooperate with a willing character.

Wouldn't it be better... just to let roleplay take it's natural course?

What a weird topic. I can understand having character direction, but this is just stifling it.

I'd suggest you to let the process be natural.
Also, if you wish to RP a Cyricist, do a lot of research.

Eh. I wouldn't handle it this way if I were you. Best to just chill out and go with the flow of the RP, and let the RP play out in game rather than to preset the RP and have it work a certain way.(And saying this is better than saying "What a bad topic/post/stupid idea/whatever")

Agreed, this would be best.

That's the thing... I know what I want him to be. HOW he will be one is a mystery to even me, but I know what I want for him, and if it doesn't work it doesn't work. I know this character's personality very well. I've been playing him all over for many years.. along with a few others I've played for many years.

Research: I have read both the Prince of Lies and Crubible: Trial of Cyric the Mad. I have also played a cleric of Cyric on another server.
Metagaming: I play about ten characters... so good luck. I very intentionally didn't put a char name in.

All I want is for someone to get with me IC and see where it goes. Honestly, it's 50/50 what he does. It's a mystery even to me, and it really depends on the person he meets.

I'm well aware of what a Cyrist is. I however am NOT aware of what they are on Amia.

He could come out of this a paladin for all I know. I just want to meet with someone who is actually a good representation (...as funny as it is in this instance) of what they are IF they are even organized.

People put themselves on the party list for XP... how is asking for a PM to stimulate RP any different? I don't see the difference at all, sorry.

The other day I was told to post in the Winya forum for an AA teacher for a char. I see signs in Wiltun from time to time inviting all shadowdancers to contact people and left next to them are very convenient candle peaceables with character names on them... Are all of these things honestly any different? If so, then why?

I'm not OMGZ CYRIC ARE THE BEST. I just want to probe this option before he is led too far into any other directions. Test the waters. You feel me?

Because they're IC and yours is OOC. It's not just a difference, it's the biggest difference.

Perhaps you shouldn't have scripted his career out of character and defeated the point of a roleplaying server.

But that's not what I do. I play a roleplay server for a reason. This is what I generally look for when I'm developing a character.

1. A personality. I draw on whatever for this... habits from myself, people I know, other people I have seen wherever. This is key. It lets me drop the character into whatever environment and I will know how they react without having them fully fleshed out.

2. A build. I like to know what they're going to be.. more or less. I usually pick stats and make a class around it. They don't all end up that way... I mean, seriously.. I have a wizard with THREE PM levels and no plans to take more from back in the day. Who the hell ends with THREE PM levels?! But it didn't work out... so there he stayed. He was supposed to have 20.

3. Optional: A faith. Does everyone have a favorite few gods? A pool of divine energy from which they seem to enjoy drawing? Cyric is one of my favorites, and I very much loved playing one. I won't lie, I made him to follow Cyric... four years ago on the other server where he lives, and now he's one of a few Sharessans I have. He was supposed to be a Cyrist there as well.... but RP happened. This time I want to be sure I at least get a chance to stick to my plan. I hardly ever do.

I see your point, Tormak... however, making it IC REALLY WOULD be a metagaming magnet... I do want SOME security, here, and I knew I was taing a chance posting this. I just hoped it would remain quiet and I'd get a PM and I could go out and RP my character.

And I don't really enjoy being accused of "Scripting" everything my characters do. I have that list of three things. I don't do backstory so much, because I find that sometimes I need to change it (gasp!) a year later, and that's lame... so I fill it in as I go... Three things. I don't write... I act.

Would the reply be the same if I posted that I needed a follower of Lathander IC, I wonder? Or is it because he's evil? I don't get it, I suppose.

So two options

A: IC post and get followed by every gooder on the island and interrupted every time I hunt with people wanting to PvP me...

B: I try this and see what happens.

So.. I get strung up OOC or IC! At least I can go IG to get away from the forum lol.

Okay, guys. I'm cool with this. Lock it if you want.

Yes. Stop scripting encounters OOC.

Okay. Will do.

On second thought... I went, like... three threads down...

And saw this. (not trying to pick on you! It's just what I saw... sorry.)

I guess I'm a little confused as to what is and what is not allowed. I wasn't trying to dodge any rules or do anything fishy with this, I swear... It just seems to HAPPEN.

If anything, trying to make character first and then actively seek out the RP to lean in one direction is much more open to RP and less "scripted" than setting out to make a character in a faction. Or am I all wrong on this?

A "scripted" meeting would be, "okay, I walk in and say this... the you say this and we're cool." I just want to bump into someone, that's all. That's it. Pick my pocket. PvP me. I just want a peek that the "guild" is alive and active... Sure, I could have made my char a cyrist before he came to Amia, but I WANT the RP that leads into it. I don't want to SKIP crucial character building time, because... honestly... not only do I enjoy that RP more than almost anything, but I dunno what he's gonna do. If I knew what he would DO it would be different... all I know I what I would like to see him somehow accomplish.

I'm sorry if this is stirring up shit, I really don't want that. Like I said, I just wanted to quietly get a little RP. The party list is OOC until you meet up and RP it.

Dave: "Hey, still looking? ECL 20 tank."
Phillip: "Yeah, have a 17 and a 22. We're in range."
Dave: "Great, I'll meet you in Brog."
Phillip: "sure. I'll be in the mythal forge swearing loudly over my various failures."
Dave: "Oh, snap! I have craft armor! Sure, give me five minutes to grab a fish taco and I'll be there."

And then when you meet up you RP it out. I don't understand why I'm getting this reaction.

its better to not use party chat at all. but i'd be a hipocrite to disagree that it helps to sway partys to a location. it gets annoying when it then turns into "i worship mask/otherwise" cause well dang if I have to explain why you shouldn't be telling anyone that ooc, wiki's that way <--.

I'm not worried about being metagamed. I have multiple accounts, so... It never even occurred to me that anyone would have a clue.

I suggest posting a message IC in a spot where cyricists are most likely to travel. Then naturally be smart about it, not "Cyricists wanted!" but something that vaguely references his dogma in a verse or poem like form, or other aspects that would make it abundently clear to fellow Cyricists that you're seeking them. I.E references to Razor's edge, Dark/Black Sun, Lies, prince of spades, Moonrise, The harlot, Day of the Dark Sun, etc etc etc. If you've read the Prince of Lies book, you can likely conjure up alot more than the ones I suggested.

You can use such sneaky messages to either set up a meeting or just let it be a greeting of sorts. Messages that go unseen by the general public in IC notes are pretty easy to set up, and I've made more than one that I don't think anyone but the intended reader noticed. Everything including auction posts are potential hidden or descreet messages to your intended audience, so be creative and think like a proper cyricist, deception!

Kudos to Gravemaskin for actually responding in a helpful way to Syds.

Good grief to those of you who didn't.

Another suggestion would be to find the idol and after reading that see what your character thinks/feels. Maybe they test out being deceptive and end up hating it? Or loving it?

It could be that you'll get a PM or two with other craftier suggestions from folks who've played Cyrists or wanted to.

I like that you want to have your character seek it out first, it's a tough way to go with a group like the Cyrists. Good luck!

ROFLMAO

All this hate on one player and not until Gravemaskin's responce, even the DM gave crap for advice. The way this reads, is that instead of making an evil toon, grinding to level 30 with a RDD/PM powerbuild and then "Oooo, I'm evil."(PvP followed by more PvP, then gratuitus PvP and six minutes of sacrifice RP on various alters of I can pwn yous Zorz). But actually has an idea, a direction that he'd like to actually RP, on an RP server no less. But is given crap for wanting to cut to the chase and get right to the RP? Really?

I'm sure that Tormak finds it very simple to simply jump in game with a new toon and get what he wants right away. However his OOC knowledge of knowing exactly who is who and what is where makes it immpossible for everyone to do the same. And frankly, what's the normal reaction from most player when some comes by in game and asks, "Hey, anyone know where any Cyricists are, or where they hang out?" Usually, most will be flippant answers and at a minimum frustrating to the extent of making it not woth the time and effort to do so.

But of course since Syds doesn't seem to be in a clique, he can be reguiled for his attempts at finding RP somewhere. Jesus, ya'll should really hear yourselves sometimes.

And again, thanks to Gravemaskin for actually being considerate enough to give some constructive and helpful advice.

I don't really see hate. Maybe people simply read too much into what is said. Anyway, time to lock this before people start going for each others throats.
