((As I have no idea where else to put this...

I'm creating this thread to discuss the creation of the Heralds of Triumvir faction, as it will likely be very difficult to get everyone who may be interested IG at the same time.

Consider this thread to represent the IG/IC meeting(s) that would take place. As such, please keep posts IC when possible, though there will likely be a need for OOC questions & suggestions as well. The meeting itself would be open to all who'd be interested in partaking, and would take place in the Triumvir tavern. ))

At the time of the meeting, a number of tables and chairs will have been arranged in the inn to make for a good meeting room, and platters with a variety of things to nibble and sip have been spread out. Elor greets and chats with arrivals as they enter, and after it seems the majority have arrived, Elor stands at the head of the table to speak.

"Thank you all for coming here today! As you probably know, I've been thinking about starting an organisation for those who have more than a passing interest in the arts, lore and exploration. I have called this organisation the "Heralds of Triumvir" because it seems appropriate enough, but I'm open to suggestions on this as well.

First point: Goals
As I see it, the Heralds would have the following goals:
1. To organise, create and hold our own performances and artistry whenever and wherever we can, and to support and encourage perfomers and artists troughout the realms, so that all may know and enjoy the many different arts.
2. To create, gather and store traditional bardic lore; songs and tales, history, politics, lore on particular heroes and villains and magical things, etc.
3. To explore and map every corner of the realms we may find, and support travellers, explorers and caravaners as we go, so that the many hidden and beautiful places of the world may be found.

Now, when I say arts, I mean performance and entertainment arts, not to be confused with the Art of magic, though illusions and stage magic are a bit of a grey area, but generally things like singing, dancing, playing instruments, acrobats, oratory, acting, satire, painting, poetry, creative tomato tossing, etc.

Second point: Symbol, Colours, Heraldry
I haven't really thought about this much yet, but I think it should include cheery colours and a trumpet or horn.

Third: Membership Requirements
I'd say the Heralds could allow anyone who shows sufficient skill and devotion with at least one art, and who's comitted to advancing the Herald's goals. Preferably no evil sorts. Evil is dull.

Fourth: Organisation
Haven't really worked this out yet either. On one hand we could have something of an Apprentice - Journeyman - Master system. Or we could not have any ranks at all. As I see it, Heralds should be free, and encouraged to do so, to take initative, work towards the Heralds' goals without needing constant oversight, and organise things themselves whenever they want to. It does make organising things centrally a bit more difficult though. I think the best way would be to find a good balance between the two systems.

That's what I have so far. What do you lot think?"

Balfouria nods and smiles at Elor.

"I think it's a wonderful idea! And may I just say, though I've only been in Cordor a short while, I wholeheartedly support this idea."

'Seconded'
*A gruff voice from the back of the room adds*
'I see it as a loose group of professionals, a peerage if you will'
*The voice belonging to a young woman her skin scorched from exposure to the unforgiving sun of the open plains*
'We could aid one another in perfecting our individual talents along the way'
*Her voice becomes somber as she continues*
'...though I don't know who could judge what's good or evil art before the eyes of the binder *Shrugs as she displays a crooked grin*
Nevertheless-its a start

What's in this for you? Will it be a personal social club where you dictate who's in and out, a gathering of the artistic elite to supplement your craving for entertainment, or are you actually aiming for an isle wide impact?

Mala, for her part, simply hangs out, offering card readings for those that show up. The man who asked what they gain out of it gets a rubberband-ball tossed to bounce at his feet.

The dark young woman clad in a patchwork skirt, white top and a black leather corset, smiles brilliantly. Silver bangle bracelets and bells around her slender wrists and ankles glint and chime.
"Malaguena, of the People of the Shifting Sands, woman of many talents. Not the least of which are singing, dancing, and juggling."

The 'Anonymous' tanned man rose from his seat, furling his cloak around his shoulders. His face was painted in obvious discontent but whether it was about the rise of the heralds of the triumvir, or anything else he wouldn't reveal. Clasping the final button of the cloak he strode out from the small inn in this perplexed plane and went off towards one of them any portals that lead to the isle.

At the next meeting, Elor presents the first draft of the Charter.

----
CHARTER of the HERALDS OF TRIUMVIR

Image

The Heralds of Triumvir are an organisation based on the Demiplane of Song with the following goals:
1. To organise, create and hold our own performances and artistry whenever and wherever possible, and to support and encourage perfomers and artists troughout the realms, so that all may know and enjoy the many different arts.

2. To create, gather and store traditional bardic lore; songs and tales, history, politics, lore on particular heroes and villains and magical artifacts, etc.

3. To explore and map every corner of the realms we may find, and support travellers, explorers and caravaners as we go, so that the many hidden and beautiful places of the realms may be found.

The Heralds of Triumvir have a loose organisation, with no set ranks but that of the overall leader and administrator, who is most commonly known as the Prince of the Heralds of Triumvir, though this title is prone to change according to the preference and whim of the invidual in question. Others may hold specific titles representing their responsibilities, which may include oversight over happenings in a specific region, a specific field of lore or a specific long-term goal.

Aspirant Heralds need to seek out a recognized Herald for sponsorship and mentorship. This mentor is responsible for presenting the aspirant to the Prince, overseeing their training and ensuring that the aspirant is aware and knowledgeable of the traditions and goals of the Heralds. When both the mentor and Prince deem that aspirant has proven to be a worthy and capable member, he or she will officially be recognized as a Herald and given all the priviledges and duties, including training new Aspirants, of true Heralds. All Aspirants should display skill at at least one form of performance art, as well as a good general knowledge of Amia and the surrounding islands before expecting to be Recognized.

----

I think this may be enough information for a public Charter. Prestige is something I would consider to be a fairly natural, dynamic thing; in that those who prove themselves skilled and devoted Heralds will naturally be given more trust and influence. It's of course a social thing, but I consider the following as examples on what would improve a Herald's Prestige:
* Holding an excellent performance.
* Collecting and compiling rare or interesting lore
* Mapping and sharing information on a dangerous or difficult to reach area
* Discovering and sharing juicy gossip or rumours.
* Successfully challenging the status quo in witty, satirical way.
* Presenting a particularly promising or interesting Aspirant.
* ...

And of course a few things that would cause someone to lose Prestige:
* Failing to entertain with a performance.
* Being useless to other Heralds.
* Being boring or style-less.
* Being dangerously insane (not just Touched) or overly violent.
* Spending time raising undead, summoning demons or otherwise bringing unpleasant attention to the Heralds and/or Triumvir.
* Being mentor to a dull, violent or otherwise failing Aspirant. Choose them wisely.
* ...

We would also have regular meetings. Some of them closed to outsiders, others open to all. I think it would be very, very fun if every meeting has a specific theme, and all attendants are expected to arrive dressed for the part and to act "in character".
So one gathering could have a knightly or courtly theme, another could have a farm or druid theme, and so on.

Your thoughts, please!

((OOC:
* All classes permitted, though Bards, Rogues, Illusionists and Clerics of Oghma, Milil, Deneir, Savras, Sune, Sharess, Selune, Liira, Tymora, etc. would likely fit in easiest.
* Membership is preferably Non-Evil, though infiltration by Evil is OOC permitted, as long as it is RPed appropriately and said Evil accepts that being discovered may have particular "bardic" consequences. Tar-and-Feathers being the least of them.
* Aspirants would not be given forum access (when available) until being officially Recognized.
* Prestige would be more than just a vague background concept, but the driving social force within the guild. A group made up of would-be divas and "social paragons" is bound to have some fairly interesting open and concealed rivalries as they all vie for influence and recognition amongst their peers, much like medieval courts.
* RP > Stats. A player/character who has 10 ranks in Perform but emotes his/her performances really well will earn a lot more Prestige than a player/character with 100 ranks yet dull, generic emotes.
The same goes for all Social/Mental skills when appropriate appropriate.))

Balfouria reads the charter, nodding in agreement with the words occasionally. Finally she looks up and smiles approvingly at Elor.

"Ah, yes. I've thought about organising a festival, though at the moment I'm still not sure if I should do it now, or first find more people to join us. I would like to have around 6 as a good base, though I'm not against already starting to work on organising the Festival.

Do you have any thoughts on this?"

Kurchin had been sitting, silent for a while, wagging his tail, listening. The kobold had read through the charter, though did not comment on it. However, he picked up when hearing about a festival, he wagged his tail more rapidly.

"Oooh! A festival sounds lovely, yip! We could even wecwuit mowwe membows at the festival if a lot of people come, yip!"

He paused at that, though the excitable kobold wagged his tail more rapidly, awaiting response.

"Yes, that would certainly be one of the goals. Recruitment and advertising ourselves. That's why I also asked you about those paintings, Kurchin.

For the festival itself, I'm not sure yet about what events to organise.
A performance competition? Or a ball? Or a Romani dance? I'm sure we can count on support from the Temple of Love as well, especially any Liirans."

I quite agree. Perhaps us lending our aid to the upcoming Revel I have seen advertised would also help?

Xaviera, reading the Charter and list of ranks, chuckles to herself. She resolves to discuss plans for a revel with Mina and Elorathall, and also makes a mental note to contact several dancers of her acquaintance.

Looking over the meeting notice, Balfouria nudges Elor in the ribs and smirks.

"So, I can do my threesome things at the meeting? Great!"

She shakes her head, amused at their inside joke.

"I think we can consider the Grand Revel to have been a success, and worth of repetition. On my end, I'm in favor of letting this one sink in for a few weeks or months before we start working on the next.

That said, the legendary Yossarin Shadowbard has enlisted us to partake and support a competition: he wants for writers and loremasters to create, or preferably research, tales related to the acts of the gods. All tales should have some sort of moral to them. So, tales related to the gods themselves, or major figures of individual faiths.

To that end, I think we can weave this into our Revels. I think a good one to start with is tales related to the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Pleasure; Sune, Sharess, Liira, Hanali, Sharindilar, etc.

On a final note: Yossarin leaves it to us to organise, but offers 500 000 gold for the all-round best tale, across the different gods. So get to researching and writing!"

Attention Heralds!

I've decided that all Trials of Three are cancelled and redundant. Mentors are now responsible for properly training and encouraging their Aspirants, and all are free to take personal initiative to prove their skill and dedication, as to earn their Recognition as true Herald of Triumvir. Frequent general assignments will be posted here for all Aspirants and Heralds to take up as well. Fear not; any Trials already undertaken will certainly be taken into account.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

For his dedication to the Spirit and Heralds of Triumvir, I hereby Recognize Kurchin as true Herald of Triumvir. From this day forward, he shall hold all priviledges and duties accordingly.

Elorathall,
Prince of the Heralds of Triumvir

GENERAL ASSIGNMENTS
* The Heralds of Triumvir and their Aspirants are to compile a Grand History of Cordor, from the day of its foundation to the present.
* At the request of Captain Neveah of the Cordorian Guard, all Heralds of Triumvir and their Aspirants are invited to assist in Guard exercises as Actors.

A simple, monastically plain note is posted for reading near the Heralds' section of the Triumvir board.

It reads:

To the Heralds of the Triumvir,
I am interested in joining your cause as a scholar in pursuit of Theological knowledge. Though my dedication is the rapt and focused study of the realms' deities and the act of worship for them, I am not above appreciation for the arts and have done some mild-mannered exploration myself. If you would like to arrange for a meeting with me please leave message with the dearest High Priestess of Waukeen in the City of Cordor.
Karl the Monk.

A woman in dark clothing and pale skin passed through the Triumvir tavern, glancing briefly over the board there at first barely paying the notes any attention.
At a second thought she came to a dead halt, double taking to one of the messages. Something about the writing caught her eye and caused a moment of pensive hesitation.

A few seconds later, she carried on her way.

"... The Heralds are currently compiling a grand history of Cordor, and I think those books would make a fine starting point to begin with. Would I be allowed to loan them for a while, so that I can study them? Captain Neveah told me it would be alright."

Good Elorathall,

I write to you upon this day for I wish to grace you with the knowledge of the five year old quest bestowed upon lord Yaston Sylgerand of the Triadic Knights by my cousin, the founder of the Order, Sir Hector Tormigan. It is the tale of the task to lift the curse of the Kohlingen Manor, the sacrafice of Father Simond of the Purity Refuge and the fall of Earl Manfried of Kohlingen. I will pay handsomely for this tale to be made into a ballad to honor these men. You may send your reply with my messenger.

Sir Robert

A reply is sent back with the same messenger:

"Good Sir Robert,

I'd be happy to work this tale into a ballad worthy of such. Please send me all information you would wish to share.

Regards,

Elorathall"

A few days later, Elor returns to the Commonwealth Center.
"Goodday, Franton. I've looked trough the library, but seems that there the history recorded in the books there ends at the time the first Council was disbanded, and much of the information on the Thayvian Enclaves is written in the present tense. It's all woefully outdated, and so much of it is missing or misplaced.

Could I take a look at the books you have in the Records then?"

A note is placed beneath.

Elorathall,

I haven't had the honour of making your acquaintance, Elorathall, but I would gladly act as the Eternal Order's Chronicler. I feel my respect for the cycles of life and death would endear me to their cause. I can also offer dirges to those that meet their time under the honourable and just hand of the Judge's zealots.

Or indeed those that have simply expired under the perpetual weight of time.

Contact me, the same place, if you are receptive to the request.

Yours in good faith, Faezar.

I would be happy to meet you and answer any questions you might have. Please let me know when it would be possible for you.

Up goes a note, in a thin spidery hand.

I would be more than happy to make myself present at said meeting, and to consult with Kurchin and Elorathall if they've got any questions about the roles. In addition, I've raised two hundred twenty thousand (220,000) gold in donations for the play's budget. Twenty thousand of which are to be used to provide free refreshments for those that come to the play - it's my hope that we might feed a mouth or two that couldn't otherwise afford it easily this way, while simultaneously fostering them culturally. I signed a brief agreement with Xaviera of the Temple of Love in order to acquire her donation, which is as follows:

"I, Herial, borrow the sum of twenty thousand (20,000) gold from the Temple of Love on behalf of the Heralds of the Triumvir, to be used in the supply of food and drink at their upcoming showing of The Refugee. In return, it is pledged that the Temple of Love's patronage will receive some mention in any and all distributed programs and handbills."

Nothing too serious, and I had planned for those who had donated to receive mention and thanks anyways.
