If you want to sprinkle those things around the area you're hallowing, fine, if you just want to set them in a brazier and burn them and send the smoke wafting over the area, so be it. Icing. Questions about raising the dead.
I'm aware that when raising someone the soul you're calling receives some information about the agent(raiser) (not sure where I read this, since I can't find it in the SRD) upon which they can base their refusal/acceptance. Alignment and deity, correct? Or is it name as well? Just clarifying that, not my actual questions. If I'm off-base though, then no need for my questions really...
My real first question is, does the patient remember any of this upon waking? Would they be able to pinpoint alignment and deity of their raiser? I recall that you don't remember specifics from the other side, would that apply in this case? I suspect it would, but I just want to make sure.
Secondly... how exact is the deity info? If you pay lip service and consider yourself loosely a follower of god X but in practice your final resting place would most likely be the wall, what information gets passed to the patient's soul on a raise?

Name, alignment, deity served (or "patron deity" if there are many) Yes, this means if your secret Sharran raises someone, they get "Joe Thief, LE, Shar." No, you remember absolutely nothing under any circumstances whatsoever past your point of death. Never, ever, ever. Quote: Secondly... how exact is the deity info? If you pay lip service and consider yourself loosely a follower of god X but in practice your final resting place would most likely be the wall, what information gets passed to the patient's soul on a raise? God X. There's no real "Fooling" the raise process.

Alright so I been trying to find information on a Justicator in Monster Manual III. Does anyone know if there is more information on that type of outsider or is Monster Manual all I got to work with?

Lore on Lantan is quite scarce. Lantanese are supposed to have a level of "technology" that offers a viable alternative to even high-magic regions. Canonwise, they are building a non-magical portal in Tashalar, for example -- which can be visited in the NWN2 Storm of Zehir expansion.
However, what is the DM teams view on Lantan? Is it a land of mainly gnomes with quirky little inventions? Is it a land of high steam-punk Leonardo Da Vinci-style technology? Is it a land of high magic, channeled trough items and objects rather than spells?
By extension, what is the DM team's view on "technology" such as gunpowder and steampower engines in Amia?

I can haz airship infantry?
Gunpowder, or smokepowder as it is called in FR, does exist last I checked, but it's uses are limited and not quite reliable yet, due to the oversight of Gond. Oghma and Gond are pretty much bastards when it comes to not letting humanity advance technologically at its own rate. Then again, magic serves to stifle that a little bit as well.
Ultimately, it comes down to the DM's story, like Yoss said. Steampunk from Lantan technology is certainly nothing you'd get your hands on without a DM's go ahead. But I suppose it would be nice to know for sure, as I've seen multiple gnomes that claim to be from Lantan. And I imagine they'd feel quite silly to state IC that they used to serve in the gnomish airship regiment, only to find out OoCly the buggers on Lantan are still trying to figure out kites.

*cough* Tuomas IS from Lantan. And.. while I like the idea of the higher tech (Steampunkish)-stuff, it is probably not stuff that'd leave the island. And Gond's NOT a Bastard when it comes to advancing tech at his own rate: I'll quote his Dogma for you. Quote: Gond's Dogma: Actions count. Intentions are one thing, but it is the result that is the most important. Talk is for others, while those who serve Gond do. Make new things that work. Become skilled at forging, or some craft, and practice making things and various means of joining and fastening until you can create devices to suit any situation or space. Question and challenge the unknown with new devices. New inventions should be elegant, and useful. Practice experimentation and innication in the making of tools, and the implementation of processes and encourage these virtues in others through direct aid, Sponsorship and diplomatic support. Keep records of your strivings, ideas and sample devices so that others may follow your work and improve on what you leave behind, and encourage others such as farmers and hunters to think of new tools, improved ways of crafting and using their existing gear, and new ways of doing things. Observe, acquire and store safely the makings of others and spread their knowledge amongst the consecrated of Gond. Discuss ideas and spread them, so that all may see the divine light that is the Wonderbringer.

theres nothing wrong with airships so long as wildspace is not in the equation >_> airships are beautiful things.
ninj...devils would prefer to tell a truth to a dire end than a lie, if that makes sense. example a hero asks the devil which corridor is trapped, they say the middle is trapped, but neglect to tell them the left is too, and watch them go to their doom with a cackle >=)
I don't think they would however have too many qualms about lies if they we're nessicarry, its just one of those nuances.

@ Svensk, They can. Likely any intelligent mortal or immortal creature for that matter can. But they'd be much more likely to trick you with clever wording or lies of omission, rather than an outright falsity. The source would pretty much be hard to find, you just have to go off of what could be reasoned. I.E. No where will you find that it says "Archons are physically and metaphysically prevented from telling a lie", however logic and reasoning would lead you to believe that they could, but under 99.99% of circumstances, they wouldn't.
@Grymia, You should be aware that dogma is there for the worshippers to follow, not for the god him- or herself. Gond could and does last I checked keep technology from advancing but so far, if he feels the people are not ready for it. The same way Oghma keeps certain information under lock and key, and the same way Mystra bans 10+ level spells. All of these deities encourage their followers to "Make new things", practice, and experiment, but they keep a good handle on the things that can be accessed, for the sake of mortals not destroying themselves.

Exactly. You'd be fine with you kid playing with chemistry set, but as soon as he somehow fashions a nuclear warhead using it, you'd probably take it away from him. Or just make sure he couldn't make one in the first place. And it's not because you don't want him to build and create, you just don't want him completely destroying himself or doing irreversible damage to the environment.

Here's a flycard Question - What's an Aoskarian hound? Been peeking in the toolset a little.

It's just the name of the appearance. There are no references to an Aoskarian hound anywhere that I've seen. I looked it up when they were first added to the HAK.
Interesting tidbit: The skin Phyrexian Negator is based off a creature from Magic: The Gathering, of the same name.

Its something from the Planescape/Sigil setting.
At least, Aoskar is. I'm not exactly sure how they are related to him. I'd guess its some sort of Sigil watchdog.

The guard dog watching you suspiciously is typical in every sense of the word, but for the fact that it has two heads.
Aoskian hounds were first bred by the followers of the god Aoskar, hence the name. The power's been destroyed and nearly forgotten, but the creatures are thriving. Aoskian hounds cost from 20 gp (weaned) to 150 gp (grown and trained). Blood of an Aoskian hound is sometimes used as a material component for the Mage's faithful hound spell.
COMBAT An Aoskain hound is a determined guardian, rarely abandoning its post. It concentrates its bite attacks on stunned foes.
Stunning Bark (Ex): The warning bark of an Aoskian hound stuns all opponents within 30 ft. that fail their Fortitude save (DC 13) for 1d6 rounds. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Skills: Aoskian hounds have a +4 racial bonus on Jump, Listen, and Spot checks; they also have a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking by scent.

While you're right about the dogma, I think you're mistaken about Gond. I'm under the impression that he's notorious for being irresponsible and eager to encourage new inventions, and this causes strife between him and Oghma who as Gond's superior is constantly restricting the unleashing of new and unnatural ideas into the world at large. Oghma and Gond are not of like mind on the matter. I don't have the books handy, but this tension is mentioned in one or the other god's entry in F&A or F&P. But yeah, there are no dedicated books on Lantan, Nelanther or Ruathym. It's odd, because they're the major islands of Toril after the Moonshaes. But no, Lantan shouldn't be miles ahead of the rest of the Realms from what I gather. They've invented smokepowder, but that must be rather recent because it hasn't spread into the rest of Faerûn yet and its applicatons are unstable. Lantan and Nelanther are very mysterious, rumored to house powerful technology and powerful magic respectively, but I doubt the reality is quite as fantastic.

As Lantan is inspired by Atlantis, including the sinking in 4E, it's not unlikely that Lantan -is- ahead of the rest of the realms in a few fields -- I 'think' I read about the Lantanese actually having Spelljammer ships.
It's also notoriously difficult to get onto the island, so it's not unlikely that the Lantanese have all sorts of powerful technology (with or without magical components) hidden away on their island. The canon is very conflicting on the exact level of technology they have though. On one side is the focus on gnomish gadgetry and late renaissance level of technology, maybe a bit of steampunk thrown in, on the other side you have a canon non-magical portal being built, essentially a literal teleporter.
What -could- be possible is that that Lantan is far from a unified land, but riddled with a variety of different factions, all keeping their advances to themselves for whatever reasons (political, glory, greed, sheer gnomish whim, ... ) with the church of Gond keeping only a vague, loose oversight. So while some might have a higher focus on steam technology, others might focus on different things. Ironically, with magic so commonplace and well-defined, technology would be more mysterious than magic.
All in all, Lantanese "technology" is the one big Joker card DM's can pull to surprise high-level mages who've pretty much seen and done it all. It doesn't need explaining, it just works. And somehow, it's able to challenge the magical status quo in fresh, new ways.
My two cts.

Many nations have Spelljammer ships. Shou Lung has an armada, I recall Evermeet having a few and Cormanthyr used to have them when it existed. They've been quietly forgotten in recent material, though. They're not so much advanced technology as an old secret that some people have access to. I think it's the Spelljammer Helms that are hard to acquire, whereas building the ships with one is relatively easy. Not sure, though. Where's that portal lore? I've never heard of it. I suppose we can dismiss NWN2 and 4e lore, because it's different people with different ideas doing those.

I can't recall the source, but I remember that thing about portals as well. The Lantanese are supposedly making portals based upon technology, as it is considerably more stable in their mind than the arcane alternative. Edit: Found something. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/pg20030326a

In our homebrew Amian lore, are portal wands exceedingly common? If my character loses mine through RP, can I just run to Furth's and grab another for a few coins, or is it more complex than that?

They have been stolen from PCs before with DM supervision... it usually takes a bit of RP to get it back like say through the mystrians or through codor magic council. I know the later one was done before after the undoer plot by a player. I guess it is really up to the DMs since they will be the ones granting you a knew one.

Portal wands are a product and a primary export of the Monolith of Mystra, alone. Sent from Ruathym to Cordor, Kohlingen, Wiltun, etc, and further disseminated from there. I would presume where-ever you see a cleric of Mystra. How unsavory types, such as Underdarkers, get them is probably a more interesting story left told by the DMs in game. I know it certainly vexes Ulrik. If only he had his way. It is assumed that they are provided to adventurers, and others who might afford them (certainly the well-to-do might be able to, but I do not think commoners could afford them, or would want them) for a one-time nominal fee off-screen. Its why its in your bag. Its assumed your character bought one upon arrival or upon becoming an adventurer. I know the DMs are pushing towards, if you lose it in game, get a new one in game. And its entirely possible. And I have already said much.

Nivo is correct. There are some truths about portal wands that people are keeping under wraps, lending on the one hand to their air of mystique but on the other hand to your natural and understandable OOC questions about their proliferation, considering that every PC starts with one in his/her inventory. The idea is that the Mystrans supply/support adventurers who want to use the portal rods to hitch a ride on the super leyline highway...and an uncommunicated expectation that a fee was paid, or that the Mystrans expect some consideration from the PCs for the grant of the portal wand.
If you feel your PC would have an issue accepting anything from the Mystrans, you are free to hand your portal rod over to a DM. Otherwise, don't go making up alternative means of acquiring/having acquired them, for this is currently the only IC method. This may be subject to change, and I'm sure some people are working on this out there, somewhere.
Hit up a DM and you may find some alternative means if you're savvy enough (as the aforementioned Underdarkers apparently have), but other than that...

Bah. Just let me use Gate to planewalk and I'll leave my mythal wand in the trash. Got bigger plans for my mythals than using them to fuel our magical version of an SUV!

I'm with you there, DI, but I have some personal issues with the OOC treatment of portal wands by the playerbase and what they do to the Amian climate, issues that don't need to be aired here in a thread about lore.
From an IC standpoint, they are a perfect story element (which is a hint to my personal issue of them being relegated to a semi-OOC device in your inventory at character creation that should make adventurers fat as hell from never having to walk anywhere). They are one of those hallmarks of wizardly innovation, creating a device to take advantage of a natural condition, and they have already given magi on this server both high "eureka!" moments and confounding periods of intellectual consternation as they try to figure the nuts and bolts of it all.

On the other hand, there is something very Mystran about them. Gifting the (adventuring) masses with the ability to utilize the ley-lines in ways only the most skilled and powerful wizards might have done before. Magic for the masses. Done efficiently. Their use of mythals, releasing crystallized Weave, is also another stroke of genius. At least, as far as Mystrans would be concerned.
They are in fact, a very awesome aspect of the server, as far as lore is concerned.
I agree with Yoss, though, it is a shame they are taken for granted, or even regarded as some partial-OOC tool by players. I would go so far as say its a shame they are merely dropped in your bag upon character creation. But this has been discussed to death in other, more appropriate forums, and I won't say more in this thread upon it.

Can you worship devils? I mean, As hendrack put it - You can worship a picture of your grandma, But the question is whether you get spells or not. I figured that since some of the Devil lords aren't Demigods or gods at all, is it possible ? Or must you make a deal with them?

Yes, you can worship the archdevils, along with demons. There's some idols of them already in-game, actually.

You do not necessarily make a deal or a pact with them personally. Very, very few of your are important enough to earn the attention of an archdevil, let alone gain an audience with one (there are notable recent exceptions, however!) There is not an explicit contract of faith established between cleric and archdevil.
However!
You would be wise to assume that the process of worship and veneration of an archdevil involves certain practices that symbolically resemble the conditions of a traditional infernal pact, often tailored specifically to the nature of that archdevil. The rites of worshipping one archdevil may require you to sanctify/purify your body in a pool of radiant water warmed by natural sunlight for 9 hours (representative of the layers of Hell), at the culmination of which you perform an action that allows your "holy" vessel to be inundated with the corruption, filth, and impurity of the archdevil.
I once played a devil-worshipping cleric whose indoctrination ritual was the above, and the culminating act was self-castration in the water, the sloughing off of his genitals and making a eunuch of himself to make the ultimate gift of servitude (a servitude that would be hard to question!) to his devilish overlord. He then devoured the worm-infested brain of a rabid animal as another symbolic gesture of "taking the seeds of corruption into himself", and in the resulting hallucinations from toxification and blood loss he dreamed of being raped by his archdevil overlord, completing his partaking of the "seed of corruption".
This may sound extreme, and of course, it is, but I have always viewed devils as a simply more refined demon - they still maintain those vile, inhuman aspects, covered by a powerful veneer of lawful behavior. In their infernal pride and desire to have their powers manifest in the material world, they often bid their followers become, in some symbolic way, "less than human" (or more, depending upon your view). This PC was for all intents and purposes still obvious as a normal, well-adjusted person in spite of the horrible things he had done (a testament to humanity, in a way), and was able to infiltrate churches and people very well. He did not "become" inhuman, per se, but an archdevil saw his dedication and granted him spells with which he used to earn himself a reputation as "defiler".
Being a defiler was his end of the symbolic bargain for gaining spells, imposed almost entirely upon himself through his own fanaticism (and for that same reason would result in him losing access to the spells if he failed in his work as a defiler because of his intense belief). It was his role to carve a gaping vagina into that idol of the Goddess of the Earth and fill it with thorny nettles resembling public hair. Or to paint the faces of gods on murals up like clowns with paint, blood, and shit. In fact, to make things more interesting for the interaction with other PCs, I added an additional condition to his symbolic infernal pact: he was never to slay a priest of any faith, if he could avoid it. Death is a release from life that sends the priest to the bosom of their god and puts an end to temptation, corruption, and suffering. This of course led to his failures as an antagonist many times, but it was a choice I took to really make playing a devil-worshipping cleric more than just...I'm evil, I worship a devil and get spells, and I'll kill everything. (Or, worse, merely be a masquerading incubi/succubi merely trying to "corrupt" people without having any idea of how to do so or what the purpose of it is beyond "I saw this movie with a devil in it and it was so fucking cool how it manipulated everyone and I wanna do that, too").
Food for thought, yo.

"Sin" is a troubling concept in the fantasy setting of Forgotten Realms. In our usage, sins are, fundamentally speaking, actions that are antithetical to the Word and the Will of God. Breaches of the Ten Commandments, primarily, but the Catholics in their centuries of beautiful guilt-mongering have managed to manufacture all kinds of other sins (like original sins, and the idea of the seven sins!)
I don't really have an answer to that question. I can easily make one up, sure. I will say this, though - making analogies between the real world and the IG world is always an amusing exercise. So while the concept of the seven sins might not be a canonical feature of a highly pantheistic world, that doesn't mean they don't have some kind of place, somewhere, in some way.

Can mortals harvest souls for the nine hells / Abyss? I know what happens to mortals in the Nine hells, But what happens to mortals in the abyss?

Well, you see, mortals in the abyss and the hells generally die or get enslaved.
This is... uh... well, pretty basic.

There's always to spell, Soulbind, which let's you trap a soul in a gem. But the question is why are you doing this? You say harvest them for the Abyss or Hell, but the powers there do pretty well on their own. The hells would rather make contracts with the willing souls(they don't just up and steal them), and any agreement you get into with something from the Abyss, in all likelyhood it's a sham. They'll wait for you to collect one or two, and then kill you. Mortals making long term obligations with immortal, malevolent beings hardly ever have a happy ending for the mortal. Nor is the story itself usually that long.

About the Gond/Oghma relationship: Quote: He is on good relations with the artificer god, Gond Wonderbringer, who serves him by giving ideas manifest forms, but their relationship has sometimes become tense due to Gond's proclivity to press for the rapid introduction of new devices throughout Faerûn. Quote: Gond serves Oghma along with Deneir and Milil. He gives the ideas that Oghma holds in his portfolio concrete form and inspires others to make new things. He has grown very independent as his own power waxes, and his relationship to Oghma is already only dimly remembered at times by mortals. Quote: Gond is always making new things. He often presses Oghma for their release into the mortal world without thinking through completely the impact they will have. He is fascinated with making the theoretical real and either does not consider or often does not care about the implications for the use of his inventions and discoveries. So yeah, Gond is a little giddy and careless, actually. However, Oghma releases new things to Faerun, Gond can only create new things. Oghma has final say on whether or not it's released to the continent of Faerun.

Ah, okay, then I was mistaken in thinking that it was actually Gond's intervention. But either way, the gods or their superiors aren't letting stuff like rifles and nukes happen. And it's not as if mortals would be able to realize the exact dynamics of who was withholding what. I'm pretty sure Oghma can just up and remove knowledge from a mortal's mind, if he wanted to.

The Rider Beyond;Lord of the seventhWhat's his portfolio? Did he adopt the portfolio of Balzebul the archduke?Did Baalzebul even have a portfolio? If this is accurate, The Tyrants of the nine hells claim him to have the portfolio of Strength and Guile? Then i suppose The rider beyond adopted these portfolios?

Only gods have "portfolios." Fiends only have "things they like to focus on." Like Orcus, for example. He likes undeath, but he doesn't have the portfolio of undeath, or the portfolio of necromancy for that matter.

the only devil that is thought to be of deity...ic...powers, is asmodeus, as far as I know. and its an unconfirmed rumour. everyone 'above' relatively, him being at the bottom of hell, are his minions. sort of. Quote: is at the very least an archdevil, but he may possess the power of a true deity. keyword on 'may'...its so very vague. *shakes head* the better question would be is hell a pantheon?

So I've been thinking about it and despite never really hearing much about the Blood War while on Amia I do assume that it it is going on.
As such I was wondering about summoned Demons/Devils and specifically their interaction on the Prime Material Plane.
I do realize it would vary between the types of demons/devil but can anyone give me any ideas on the level or type of hostility between them in general or in more specific cases (Such as especially strong dislikes between certain demons and devils)?
