It took months for the traveling merchant to reach Amia from the other side of Faerun. The shoppe of the wanderlust goodsman was vast in the area of art. Most of the paintings he has sold was art done by his own hand and all tell a story of his experiences or strange sights he has seen on the road.
Shop has been set up in Cordor. He lays out hand-made jewelry, fine and polished potery and some of the most popular books on the counter. Leaning against the merchandise stand on the ground are just a few of his favorite oil paintings lined up. From left to right, the paintings are as follows:
--A man wearing a floppy brown hat and a worn looking face is smiling cheerfully. In the background, an ox-hauled cart carries a large amount of goods all covered by a beige tarp that sits on a dirt road surrounded by pine trees. Waiting by the cart, a woman in a blue and red sundress waits for her companion holding a small child in her arms.
--A city guard dressed in chainmail armor and red robes stands next to an iron gate that leads into a mansion estate with an overcast sky overhead. The scythe he holds is resting on the ground with his arm extended, grasping a grip just below the blade.
--A mountain in the far distance shows a melting snowcap with the morning sun emerging from between two of the three total peaks. The slope is steep and consists mostfly of pine trees.
--A gruelsome scene of the aftermath of an orc raid. Arrow-filled corpses of orcs lay about in the mud of the open field. Headless bodies of humans and halflings lay about with their bloodied bodies seemingly blending into the wet ground. Off to the right are three pikes supporting the open-mouthed heads of the humans and halflings. The artist used dull colors to set the mood of gloom.
--And finally, a flatbed cart being hauled through a bustling city street by two topless male slaves with ropes over their shoulders and their bodies leaning forward. The crowd of the city look on in bewilderment and amazement as they gaze upon a man under tight confines of a rope-made net, forced to crouch on the flatbed. The man looks more like a trapped bird with his ivory wings tightly pressed downward, covering a large surface area of the flatbed. The man himself faces the wood of the flatbed, face not shown. He has brown hair and it seems the artist depicted silver embeddings about the man's skin.

Balfouria Elomyth stops by the merchant's shop, her eyes caught by the display of jewelry. As she looks around the quaint little booth, her eyes settle on the painting of the winged man being carted through a busy city. She takes a closer look, entranced in the life-like beauty of the piece.
"Sir, what can you tell me about this painting? I've never seen anything like it."
She squints at the artwork, bemused by the silvery skin on the winged man.

Mina would stop and give the merchant a friendly smile and small bounce of excitement. Her eyes would look and upon every piece of Jewelry. She would pick up her favorite piece and hold it in her hand as her eyes moved on to the paintings. First focusing on the painting the other patron mentioned.
A small gasp, as she places the jewelry down slowly and points to the painting.
"Where is the location in this painting, and how much do you want for it?"

Balfouria glances at Mina, then back to the shop keeper waiting for the answers to both of their questions. She looks back to the painting, peering closely at it.

The merchant places his palms flat on the counter between carved wooden fingers to exhibit his hand-made rings. His eyebrows raise as lifts on his toes to peer over the top of the frame the painting is surrounded by. After taking a quick glance at the painting the two women ask of, the merchant smacks his lips and places his feet flat on the ground.
"Ah, one of my favorites. I do paint what I see on the road and this one burned in my memory. It was really quite fascinating. Couldn't wait to paint it that night. You know not many folk has has seen a man as peculiar as this one, which is why this particular painting is the most expensive item I have out here today. Just look at the people's expressions," he says, pointing to the painting.
"For me to answer where this painting takes place, that'll cost extra. To answer where the subject of the painting is going... well, I did ask and I do know. But that is simply out of your price range," the merchant remarks with a smirk, slyly looking to the side.

Mina leans over toward the merchant and whispers.
"Name your price, I'll pay it."

The vendor's right eyebrow slowly lifts in astonishment.
"...Why? It's a great painting but not THAT great."

Her curiosity piqued by Mina's intensity, Balfouria watches and listens to the merchant. She glances back at the painting, then to the Merchant again.
"So what is the price for the information, sir?"

A smirk creeps across the man's face as he eyes back and forth between Mina and Balfouria. He leans back and rests his weight on his left hip as he crosses his arms.
"I wonder if I should give the information to the highest bidder. It's tempting. It's oh, so tempting. But I'm not sure if I want my reputation to spread that this is how I conduct my business. So I'll tell you what. Evidently, my reputation is more important to me than gold. Reputation is what earns you gold afterall.
He readjusts his stance.
"So I'll tell you this. My assumption is, you feel for this man. You even act like you know him. And it might be interesting to find out what you two women decide to do about it. But I'm going to have to apologize. It's a lost cause.
Take a look at the painting. It's obvious the man is a slave. What you're looking at is a transfer. I asked about him, yes. But what I learned is most disheartening indeed.
Apparently, some Banite woman sold him to a group of drow. I suppose he is an escaped slave. The transfer took place in a city called Skuld in Mulhorand. He was headed for the Underdark to a city called Oloth Tru'lu. I'm sorry, ladies, that's all I know."
He holds out his hand in between them.
"That'll be... uh, three hundred thousand gold pieces. And be sure to tell your friends about me."

"I asked for the price, not the information itself," Balfouria said, scowling. "You can't hold that over my head."
She backed away slightly, but remained in the Merchant's stall. She looked over the jewelry again, eavesdropping on Mina and the Merchant as they discussed the winged man's whereabouts.

"Oh, but it is but a tease. Sales tactics, woman. I told you where he WAS and where he is GOING. But trust me, you don't know how to get to where he is going.
For a hundred thousand more gold, I will tell you how to get there."

Balfouria holds the man's gaze for a moment, weighing the choices in her mind. She knows she certainly doesn't have the funds to pay the man, of even any real reason to search for the winged man, but something in the back of her mind pushes her to seek him out.
"Is there anything you'll take instead of gold, sir?"

"She can pay the 150,000 I will pay the rest and the 100,000 extra for how to get there."
Motions the woman over to pay the man before he continues.

Balfouria blanches as she's called over to pay. She freezes while reaching for her coin purse.
"Really.. anything other than gold?"

As Mina counts out the gold, he ignores Balfouria. The vendor claps his hands once.
"Okay! Let's get to work!"
He gently slides his merchandise off to the sides to make room for a large map he lays on the counter he retrieved from his pack behind the counter.
He points to the city of Skuld in the far eastern region of Faerun.
"Here is where I saw the man. I was amongst the crowd. That painting represents my point of view. I was curious. So I walked through the crowd and followed the cart. Now, I've been around. I know an aasimar when I see one. Just never with such white wings. I was intrigued.
The cart was pulled into a market square where under the shade, about eight drow-folk stood and traded with a bearded man. My curiousity pushed me to stand closer to the booth where I overheard the fact that the man in that painting is an escaped slave. The drow looked real nervous. Wouldn't even go near him.
The bearded gentleman told them that he hasn't been violent and he hasn't tried to escape; to calm down. Anyway. Not important. Then they made a transfer of hands. I watched them tie the net and dragged him to a black canopy cart of their own and toss him inside. They weren't nice about it either."
He points to the map again, back at Skuld, but slides his finger to the right.
"They mentioned how uncomfortable the trek to the Dragonswords will be. That's this mountain range right here to the east. But they did not take any road, mind you. They went straight across. I imagine the entrance to the Underdark that leads to Oloth Tru'lu is right here."
He points to specific peak on the northern end of the mountain range where a canyon seems to end.
"I've watched them leave in this direction and there is no where else to go except through this pass."
The vendor stands up straight, letting his fingers rest on the edge of the counter.
"But it's a lost cause. The man may be an aasimar but he's still just a slave, from the looks of it. Look how far it is to Skuld even. Then you have to travel for a few more days through the desert, then look at how impassable that canyon must be. THEN there are the dangers of the Underdark. And even if you do survive that far, you still have to the Oloth Tru'lu drow to deal with and they didn't seem warm-hearted.
From my travels I've learned, sometimes you just have to let some things rot."

Balfouria pursed her lips, her gaze following the Merchant's finger as he traced it across the map. She sighed, feeling quite inadequate to help the winged man, though she knew it would pain her terribly to abandon him. Turning to Mina, she asked quietly, "Do you know this man? Are you going to find him?"

"I do know him..fairly well."
She frowns and whines a bit but with a hint of optimism in her voice.
"I would like to find him...but, one.. I can't go alone. Two, all the help I -might- be able to gather are all busy at Caraigh. Three, I can't go myself.. I'm in the middle of planning a revel and we would need help.. lots of it. Fourth, last I heard he is not well liked anymore. Fifth, This place is so far! I also cannot stand the Underdark. Finally, it would take a lot of time so.. hopefully he isn't going anywhere."
She pauses and looks at Balfouria.
"Can you scry? -We- have to start doing -something!"

Balfouria shook her head. "I cannot, I'm sorry."
She looked again at the winged man in the picture. Then she looked up at Mina with determination.
"I would like to help you find this man."

Balfouria looks up at the Merchant and smiles gratefully. "Thank you sir. You have been very helpful."
