Someone I really enjoy playing with, who is an excellent RP, is very frustrated with the server , and is ready to quit for the following reasons, which are what they claim:

--

Loot Whores- people who, on hunts, snag up all the loot, ignoring the abc loot system.

Not Allowing Rogue RP during hunts: example- People running over epic traps while said player's character is disabling them, thus killing toon, repeatedly, and being told, sorry dude, unless you multi-class you are useless.

--

Personally, I have never had an issue with party members on hunts doing these things. I told this person he must have crappy luck in partying with the wrong people.

As a matter of fact, I've enjoyed this server more than any other I've been on because I feel that people are more RP oriented and considerate of others here than elsewhere.

I Believe in RP and Fair Play. I told this person that I am not the only one who does so.

There's no rule on this, so you're bound to get some cockwads who don't play fair. I frankly suggest hunting party blacklists: if someone's being an ass, don't play with them next time. Only a crackdown in player attitudes towards asshattery like this will help, since it's not worth micromanaging with a set of rules. Make an effort to be a Fair Player and spread the gospel.

1. ABC is something agreed on in the party. I prefer master looting.
2. Pure rogues should have IE and epic reflexes anyway. Why's he getting killed by traps?

But your friend's probably a favoured of Beshaba. I've never had the fortune to meet people like that.

Yeah, should add that my definition of a cockwad is a player who goes against the commonly agreed policy of said hunting party regarding loot without a damn good reason (if you're playing a thief it's nice to tell your fellow players this OOCly, so they don't think you're being a dick for the sake of being a dick OOCly and stealing their loot). Whatever that loot policy of each party is, is up to them to determine.

It's not rocket science! Just quantum physics, which is actually really easy once you get the gist of it. Just need to change your mentality and attitudes.

Why is this person not telling those dickheads in the party to fuck off? (nicely) Your post doesn't really accomplish much to his benefit.

If I could make a humble guess, their issue is not with "getting killed by traps", but with being unable to roleplay what rogues are supposed to do - disable them, because their party companions lack the patience to wait for that and instead simply run over the traps.

However, as a rather new player here, I feel I should also add this:

If the entire party is doing it, shouldn't the rogue go with what the majority wants?
If the party wants fast paced battles and more xp per second, is it fair for one person to hold up the whole party?

You make it sound like Amia is the worst server to play on in existence. I'm not after an argument with you Axl but I do expect a PM detailing the shit you are dealing with on this server. I don't care for that kind of generalizing on the forums because it drives away new blood and polarizes the old.

So yes I would like a PM detailing every single one of your gripes with the server and I will try to address them collectively or individually based on merit.

It's not if you agree with it IC. I usually go with the PWNBAD rule which practically stands for "Pick When Need" and... well, I don't remember it that precisely, but the core principle is that don't be an arse and pick when you feel like you haven't had one in a while. Of course this doesn't work with all, but at least with the "regular group" it does.

The best thing to do is to have a hunting blacklist, like Nekhy said. Meanwhile, keep RPing while you do hunt, even if no one else does. The other RP-hunters will notice and accept you as brethren. ;) There really isn't much else to it. Except for deciding on loot order ICly. *Nod*

If someone takes all the loot ICly, deal with it ICly. This is Amia, people have killed for less on here.

While that's true, I don't think it's helpful. If I catch what you're implying, I think that sort of IC solution would just make death more meaningless. After all, if you kill the sucker, you're not going to leave him there. You're probably going to raise him, smack him on the shoulder, and go "I hope you learned your lesson. Now, let's go kill things because I need my level and I can't kill Beastmen alone yet." ;)

I'd smack the crap out of him, then lure a spawn over to where he died and shake him awake and let the monsters deal with him. Nothing quite says "EFF YOU!" like having someone get eaten by trolls.

Seriously though, I like the idea of a party blacklist.. What would be even more awesome is if it was thrown up ICly for "all" to see. It'd make the bridge between being an ooc jackass and IC behavior a smaller one, and eventually the CHARACTER would suffer for it rather than the player.. which seems more than fair.

But it doesn't lend to server quality, immersion, or the experience one gets in a way that is impressive or flattering, imo. If I had my way, everything would be under an RP tent, and it wouldn't have to be enforced. Players just wanted to contribute, at least a little, to immersion-quality.

abc loot is stupid and when people try to ABC in character it is even worse as they metagame your name, mood ruined etc. etc.

~"My name is Grumblegraw"
"Alright Al, first loot is yours"

loot should logically go like this:
warriors get fighting stuff (its usually heavy anyway)
casters get spell stuff
rogues take when you arent looking

Most of the time I prefer the "Don't leave anything behind" loot order. ;) But, it's usually with my regular hunting group, so after all is said and done, and we ID loot and see something useful, we exchange things. Alas!

It all depends on who prefers what. All tend to be fair at the end of the day. The more IC the better, though!

I just find it absolutely silly to start whining OOCly about character stealing loot IC. Surely you people understand that if the character is an ass, he or she will act according to it and face any possible IC consequences. If you want your bloody loot back, attempt to grab and frisk the character or just ask for a permission to beat the bastard up and then take what's yours.

I, for instance, have had to argue over the fact that my arsehole of a goblin snatches loot before other people's eyes, even though I always emoted long, time taking emotes such as *reaches for the (INSERT ITEM HERE) with a greedy gleam in his eyes* etc. DEAL WITH IT IC, YOU BLOODY VANDALS!

Yeah, party blacklist is the way to go. If you don't know many chaps on the server soldier through the grinders and just roleplay all up in their business till they respond, if they don't just leave party and try again - there's no rush. I find it's the best way to find who enjoys roleplay-smash and who comes on to smash-smash.

I just wanted to clarify that the complaints I have heard over the past week had nothing to with any RP'ed action. Said player has told me that he'd be fine with it if it were. What they said upset them was to see paladins doing this, over and over.

I think the point, in this case, is that, to be fair, everyone wants to get some payoff for their time and effort, a share of the loot, whether it be by ABC, or PWNBAD. Probably the best thing to do is to grease it up ic'ly by announcing what the loot method is going to be, and any new toons joining in are told what the loot methods is as well, just to avoid OOC butt-hurt. If someone breaks it, then assume they are either ignorant of their place, and if they ic'ly refuse to give up the loot, then deal with it ICly. If the character who has been offended is weaker othan the offender then a responsible party would care about the general morale of the party enough to say "Hey, We don't like it either, correct yourself or we leave you here."

Personally, I have never had this issue, but then I only loot gather with toons that my toon knows, generally.

As far as the rogue thing goes, when I do play a rogue and people go choppy choppy at the treasure chests, or gallavanting across traps, he yells at them, and curses them. Then I don't like to play rogues because rogue speed through dungeon is slow, and the current method is a marathon run, which I am guilty of myself.

what you do is PM all the people in the party but him tell them its PK time, kick that player, all hostile and kill them and leave him there.( with all that loot he stole its not like he does not have the gold to pay it off respawn cost)

ABC loot is a OOC way to IC split the loot(as stupid as that wording is) so by taking all the look he is still IC taking all the loot, and I dont think DMs have problem with you IC killing someone who IC steals your stuff.

hm...the loot abc thing is true, luckily I have never cared so much about data ehm. mean items >_>

and the rouge rp thing, seen it personally, people bust chests after you've said something about keys, even go so far as to boot down doors and run over every trap as if it was fun to be splashed with acid and fire.

not much to add here, the abc thing isn't so bad, and usually any loot whoring is in actuality a group trying to move quickly, paying little or no attention to the items droped, and probably care less who grabs. I go by the rule give me at least something on a ditch dive else I probably won't be following y'all into the abyss for one.

I would suggest actually spending some time to RP and split the treasure, though keeping track of all you grab requires paper and pen, etc..

has said my peice, please respect others and rp as best y'all can =)

Sorry, I only listen to one Finn, and for the good of everyone involved, it's not Herra. :)

IC problems should be handled ICly.

OOC problems should be taken privately to DMs.

/end public service announcement.

Agreed. Sort out the loot order IC. Someone is not being a dick by snatching up all the loot if that's how their PC would act and no one else is saying anything IC about it.

But it doesn't lend to server quality, immersion, or the experience one gets in a way that is impressive or flattering, imo.

RPless grinding is both against the rules and the server ideals, btw.

I'd say routine solo boss farming falls under the RPless grinding category. Does anyone care to enforce?
I'm sure a lot of us have been in completely OOC chat grind parties at one time or another.
Party chat should be disabled, really. It serves only to break immersion, as I have experienced many times.

The entire group is RPing everything IC up to a certain point, somebody goes:
/p lol *insert amerikan pop-culture reference*
Annoying as hell.

yeah but seeing as amia has no way to craft anything yourself short of DC item requests, boss farming is the only way to get stuff that would in FR be made by like Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Epic Magic Arms and Armor,Forge ring....ect

short of a new way to craft items you will always have boss farmers, and FR has treasure seeker searching old ruins for things....but you cant go PM DMs and be like.... I want to go hunting in old far off ruins looking for something neat, be it magical items, books, rare relics...ect so you rape bosses..and find the same items..... I stand by my "all drops should be yellow items"

Even if you had a way to craft arms and armour, you'd still have a lot of farming here there and everywhere for the bits and pieces that are needed. :(

Only a crackdown in player attitudes towards asshattery like this will help, since it's not worth micromanaging with a set of rules........

Surely you do not mean to enforce a server wide party chat disabling just because you are inconvenienced by the occasional bout of a player being *le gasp!* human? If you do not like it, then just turn it off yourself.

I find party chat to be refreshing. Party chat banter livens things up a bunch, and even gives a nice feel that you are sitting round a table with your friends playing DnD. So, yeah, a server wide party chat ban is silly, in my opinion.
