Dear fellow Amians. I would appreciate your feedback, and comments to the post below. Feel free to comment, but understand that this is an endeavour in good faith and in spirit of the server I've come to really enjoy. Please note that this is a PLAYER RUN and Coordinated challenge.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Have you ever really wondered how big the server is , both Amia A and B? Did you know you could get form levels 1-30 in the Underdark alone (or is this an urban legend?)
2) Can you honestly say you've explored all of Amia's content and enjoyed it ? 3) Have you ever been stuck at a low level toon, unable to get to 30, because you really dont want to go through the tiring, braindead grind?
Well, this is your chance to fully experience it all with the Amia's Greatest Adventurer Challenge.
The Basic Idea: The goal of the challenge is to fully explore Amia with a party of 6 adventurers. Adventure into every possible area, complete every quest, defeat every epic legendary monster . Starting a Friday night and basking in your glorious end to your intensive adventure on a Sunday evening.
The few rules:
1. The entire endeavour is to be In-Character and Rped. That means no nonsensical party chat, every new area is to be rped as if it's the first time the adventurers are seeing it. (So that means, if it's the first time your character is seeing a Beholder, or Dragon, act and rp as if it's the first time!)
Party chat is only to be used for when absolutely necessary, ie. Afks, brbs etc.
2. This weekend, intensive challenge would require sincere commitment from all participating players. So you have to be prepared to make arrangements that you have nothing else on that weekend. The only absence is permitted for a total of 16 hours of sleep time and Six , twenty minute breaks in between for food, lunches etc.
3. Players should try to have to start wtih a level 1 character. (No self rebuilds), or toons that just so 'happen to have scrolls of summon 7', magically appearing in their inventories, cause they have friends in high level places.
4.The party is only allowed to clean one area out per reset, thus being forced to explore new areas, continuously while gaining experience. It is up to us players to determine how to creatively lead one adventure to the next, ie. starting with kobolds, to goblins, to orcs, to trolls, to beetles etc. and we are only allowed to clean out one area, per reset.
That is the challenge, players would have to creatively find new places to hunt and explore, bosses to kill and challenges to overcome.
5. Players are expected to have some degree of maturity, in creating their characters that would not necesarily result in PvP conflict with other party members. If your creating an evil character,or a Lawful Stupid one, be prepared to play intelligently in order to respect the spirit of the challenge. A maximum of six players will be allowed for this challenge, and they would be required to submit basic ideas of their character concepts. If their idea is deemed to be 'unfit' for holistic party success, then the character would be denied.
Coordination of international timezones would be required, and thus a fair amount of preplanning and COMMITMENT from all players. This is just a test pilot challenge, based on the response, if it's positive future spin offs of the challenge can be coordinated. ie allignment or faction based etc.(Amia's Greatest gang of Villains Challenge, Winya Ravana's Greatest Challenge)
Comments are welcome, Look forward to hearing them.

Sounds like a fantastic idea!
If I ever have the need to roll up a new character (and have three days to kill), I hope this will be available, sounds like fun. I'm sticking to the one character for now though. Good luck!
note: Code Red makes you jittery (something with the red coloring), which makes for missed keys, I suggest another color. ;)

I'd be all in for it, but don't have the time this or the following weekend. After that would be awesome, though.

Trolling every single Hunting ground can take a while... But to reach 30 won't be difficult.

The dates are to be confirmed on which weekend would suit all interested players. Its not gonna be this weekend or next. Would have to coordinate it accordingly. Quote: well...on second thought. why all the way to 30 in one weekend? well it would have to be particularly ambitious to be called "Amia's Greatest Adventurer Challenge" wouldnt it. =) We'd have to go with the flow and see if it can be done in one weekend..otherwise two weekends..but our goal is steadfast and thats the idea of the whole challenge!

I also think defining "weekend" would be wise.
I mean we could probably do it if we actually stayed up for 56hrs, but iv done almost that before an lets just say the end reasult was lessn than plesant.
But id say we could get from 1-15 in 3-6hrs, then 12-22 in about the same if we have a full party. so as long as fri, sat , sun we do at least a 6-7hr session a day we should be able to do it >.<

Great idea! Glad we fleshed out the IC immersion part in tells with each other the other day. Its the sort of thing that I would, in principle sign up for, only I don't get weekends off like that. However, I -do- give it my wholehearted approval.
One other thing is, you can also do the Quests as part of the adventuring. To make it with purpose and get those 1000xp's up during those quests.

So far within the span of two hours, I've received three pm's from players wanting to participate in the adventure. If your interested please send me the following details.
1. A basic character concept design. It should incldue basic information of race, allignment, intended class, role to play in party, (ie. tank, buffer mage, rogue etc) your plans for the character etc.( No need to give your exact build),
2. Inform myself of your prefered date of weekend, your time zone, and city of residence *this is for coordinating the international playtimes with other players*
When the players are all finalised we'll meet up on MSN, skype or in game oocly to discuss the finalising stages.
Look forward to hearing from you guys, and *cheesy reality game show voice* "Do you have what it takes to become one of Amia's Greatest Adventurers?"

Fine idea but impossible to get to 30 in a weekend I dare say if it's a rp adventure, since the hunting rp takes at the very least 20% (or should) of the time. And it's impossible to start at level one, unless people agree to hold their second level they gain on character creation . Good idea though, except the 1-30 seems to be a stretch. You can't really enjoy rp as much if you set yourself a goal to be reached in a short period of time. The goal should be exploring, reacting to opponents and enviroments and bonding as a group, establishing new comrades in arms and perhaps friends for life, which I see as a good opportunity in this campaign of yours. Go for it! Banzai & campai!

My only problem is it seems rather rushed. If the characters are truly wanting to explore, and RPing as if it's the first time they're seeing everything, I would imagine the pace to go much slower.
As it is, I see it pretty much going "Ohlookthere'satrollkillit! *Runstabrun* "Wowlookatthesewaterfallsaren'ttheybeautiful!" *Runstabrun* "Isawsomesmokeit'stimeforlunchlookatthestreet." *Stabrunrun*

I say good on you for the RP and such it will generate. Ideally, that's how you're supposed to start off any PC, "not having seen a Red Dragon, not knowing what an area looks like" etc, etc, except for extenuating stories and circumstances.
But 48 hours to reach lv 30? Nah. Not possible. Maybe, just maybe lv 20, but that's pushing it. And it's accounting for the player already "knowing" the spots to hunt. So coupled with the Rp...I just don't know.
But a 48 hour IC challenge seems boss nonetheless.

Ugh. Topic makes me feel gross. Instead of wasting your entire weekend powergaming to 30 under a veneer of RP, invest that time constructively by actually roleplaying progress from 1-30.

It doesn't make me feel gross, but I agree with you and Cobbit on the timetable. A professional adventurer group is a cool concept and their RP is in the adventure, plain and simple, but you won't have enough time to RP your progress in terms of learning new skills, seeking guidance, making preparations and asking around for new challenges to overcome. I don't think you necessarily need to have a lot going on outside the adventure, but if you give it the full attention it deserves you're going to take much longer than planned here. I actually thought this was going on for longer than one weekend originally. I skipped one line, oops.

Just make sure to build in the time a party of surfacers will spend in the evil clutches of the Lolthite drow if they decide to sight see in UD...not to mention the time spent getting lost down there. And no cheating and having a UD race always be the one to navigate the group through I'll be waiting to hear how long it takes to figure out the Electric Castle, hee hee.

We will have to see how it goes, the reason why we want it to be one weekend, is to have the satisfaction of actually accomplish an amazing feat of adventuring and achievement over such a short period of time. Quote: Ugh. Topic makes me feel gross. Instead of wasting your entire weekend powergaming to 30 under a veneer of RP, invest that time constructively by actually roleplaying progress from 1-30. I've been in a lot of parties that begin rping, decently while hunting and by time they've done the 3rd run of forest of despairs, start ooc party chatting about random unrelated , though sometimes humourous stuff. The purpose of the challenge is to eliminate the boredom of the grind yet at the same time challenge players ability to maintain that RP enthusiam over three days. Good point, i'll ammend the post to reflect starting at level 3-30. So we wont need to rp 'a brave adventuring bands, first glorious adventure is running packages for a courrier service'. (it just doesn't have the indiana jones feel, if you know what I mean) Quote: As it is, I see it pretty much going "Ohlookthere'satrollkillit! *Runstabrun* "Wowlookatthesewaterfallsaren'ttheybeautiful!" *Runstabrun* "Isawsomesmokeit'stimeforlunchlookatthestreet." *Stabrunrun That honestly pretty much may be what it comes down to though I would expect a better attempt by all involved,....players have to sorta agree in advance that the point is to rp and stay in character, not dictate their entire lifestories, while walking at a snailpace toward the next destination. Why the adventurers would be in such a rush?..there would be an IC reason for that. Players would have to find out in game. alright guys send me those pm's and lets get this show on the road!! Currently prefered weekend is the Weekend of March 4th 2011, do let me know as soon as possible. If we can't go with 6 players, even four would have to suffice. (we have summons as well!)

Quote: 1 - Requires lack of anything resembling a life that I cannot fulfill and would not want to one weekend of levelling, vs months of grinding, its up to each person to decide how they would like to manage their time. Quote: Agree with the time table of making lvl 30 in that time without repeating a area is foolhardy We are allowed to repeat areas, after a reset. Fact of the matter is, one would be able to clear out for example: Kobolds, Goblins, Orcs, Trogolodytes, Trolls, --->server B, Caraigh Island, all the quests. and get just slightly less xp , then repeating a trogoldyte run, 8 times. Even when it gets to epic levels, if we absolutely can't find other epic areas to explore and get xp, then we will be forced to repeat, then so be it. This is all experimental and theoretical hearsay as of this stage. Quote: 2 - 3 - Can't use Party Chat? The point of not using party chat is just so that the random ooc flashes of words dont occur in game when slaying monsters, for example.

Then let me save you the time and tell oyu it's aready been done several times. ~43 hours is the record, if I remember DeathKnite's little spre with Ruce/Garou/Justice properly. I might be accidentally adding Ruce. Quote: one weekend of levelling, vs months of grinding, its up to each person to decide how they would like to manage their time. One weekend of grinding vs an entire character lifetime lost because you are perpetuating the shitty notion that you must be level 30, cramming an entire set of character development and exporation into 48 hours. You are what's wrong with amia and heplping to perpetuate the terrible attitude that permeates the server regarding 'grinding' and levelling and RP.

Oddly, this post has me wanting to start a character with absolutely no knowledge of anything, but a strange aversion to going to normal grinding places...

" ITS A GAME "
remember, so yeah its about fun, an if some find different things fun so be it, i personally find RP from 1-30 slowly fun, but i also can say that the idea of "the challenge" of doing the above is appealing in its own sense.
Keep in mind that within a weekend period months should pass in the character lifetime at the very least.
Having said that, i am only interested in this if we dont zone camp and we RP the entire way, having said that i can see it taking at least two weekends or so especially seeming for the party to work we need to be all on at the same time for the same amount of time.

So, from what Tormak told us, it would be stupid to grind that hard. Im all up for a "Hardcore" hunting group that spends as much time or more time Rping as hunting with no OOC talk, devoted to seeing new things and avoiding the overused areas.
But we really should make it over several weekends....Also, we need a catchy name!
I would be happy to join anything like this after march 11th.

Real Amia Challenge: Don't level up. Don't hunt. Actually acknowledge that your character can live and exist perfectly fine at level 2/3.

I love the entire concept, EXCEPT for the whole rushtogetto30asfastaswecan thing. I just...yeah, really don't see the need. The part that -really- grabbed my attention was the exploration aspect. A party of adventurers going out and finding / learning as much about Amia, its environs, and areas that are commonly frequented by the Amian populace as they can. THAT is what really made me stop and think "Hey, I think they have a great concept, here."
That, in and of itself, would truly be Amia's Greatest Adventurer Challenge.
As I look at it now, all I can really think about is how it's probably going to turn into nothing more than an uber-grind to ECL 30, with a mask of RP slapped on to make it all seem legitimized as being done in-character.
...but feel free to prove me wrong.

It may span a weekend or two, the primary goal would be. 1. Fully explore the amia server in all its aspects in a weekend (or two) 2. Stay in character, and rp as much as possible. If the side effect of this is leveling up, then so be it. But getting to 30 should not be a primary goal. Though it does make sense that if you want to explore the abyss, doing so as a level 8 bard..wont be the wisest idea. Quote: Then let me save you the time and tell oyu it's aready been done several times. ~43 hours is the record, if I remember DeathKnite's little spre with Ruce/Garou/Justice properly. I might be accidentally adding Well since thats been done, the focus should be on exploring amia and not leveling up (as it's been done before, the whole notion just loses its attractiveness as a worthy goal, and is common knowledge that it can be done through a mindless grind) Well the current best dates are the weekend of March 11, so My Sovereign I think you would be able to make it on those dates?

March 11th through March 30th is pretty much constant NWN time for me. Unless my graduation gets pushed back another week, then I will have to wait until march 18th.

I say we add an element to this that is purly RP based.
Such as ..
we still "create" our own build and general story but we could.
1. we are all family ? 2. All Orphans from same Orphanage (maybe even grew up in Cordor ?) 3. All specific race or background story ? 4. All members of a main land faction or religion ?
We could crack open some lore books and we what we can come up with to make it interested, i dont care how long it takes but if we get 6 players an put enough effort in we could start something really interesting going.

Hey Talin, I think thats a great idea. Lets see what options are available and then decide with the agreement of the rest of the party members.
Everyone can feel free to post their comments and what they think would be coolest.

Yeah, I noticed the to level 30 thing after commenting... I dig the idea of forming a party to explore Amia completely, but I doubt you can do that in a weekend with much RP at all.

Hmm, playing a family would require us all to be the same race, and I think variety is the spice of life, so probably not. All orphans from the same orphanage....maybe, depends on the orphanage. All members of a faction or religion would be really cool and hold the group together well, that one sounds the best to me. I like religion more though, which is kinda a faction in itself. We could all be Cyrisists and be mad as hatters, or something like that.

I should have my charger by the 11th, this seems like the perfect way to get back into the server, I like the idea of us all being part of the same faction, especially a religeous one, I've been meaning to make a rogue/WM/Blackguard or a Pally/COT so I don't mind as to what god, allthough my vote is for Cyric, a NE cyricist nut job sounds epic to play, what about you guys?

Gotten quite a few votes for a cyricist party,...via pm as well.. sounds good to me, based on majority vote. Send me the pms with the basic character concepts. So far we have 4 positive players, 2 more and we are ready to kick some monster butt!

Alright everyone so far we have five confirmations and character submissions. for the march 11th weekend. The general consensus is a Cyricist party. Allignments allowed, CE, NE, CN, TN
The five party balance roles that have been taken up are. 1. Party sorcerer buffer. 2. Roguish scout 3. Melee cleric 4. Archer cleric 5. Babarian Tank 6.
We have one more position open. So if anyones interested, do submit via pm to myself. Also in terms of job roles, one would have to be an explorer, mapping and charting out territories of amia. That way by the end of the grand adventure we can truly see how much of the server we covered.
I will leave this open for a few more days before closing registrations. When sending the pm with your character concept, please be sure to include your msn and skype id. Login-name, list of other players you commonly play and also your real life-name or something for us to call you by.
For the black sun!!!
