This should be clarified for all factions at once.
Faction moderators have the ability to edit other players' posts, but the common policy of Amia is that this is not done. The DMs don't just delete someone's posts from a discussion without a trace, but we remove them to a closed forum if needed and faction moderators are not exception to this policy. (ask a DM to remove a flamy post, if necessary)
Faction mods have the edit and delete abilities to do maintenance on the stickies and announcements of the forum they moderate. It is not to be used for deleting/editing posts that don't please the moderator, whether they are posts by other players or DMs.
Thanks.

I assume this thread is made due to what's been going on in the Kelly threads, sĂ?

I don't know what's been going on in the Kelly forums. This topic is for all factions, to those where improper moderation has happened and to those who didn't know what the policy is.

if you abuse this, we simply demote you. No fuss no guff, you simply won't moderate. Seems a simple thing.

Cleaning relevant IC and OOC topics of spam is OK, that's what the edit button is there for: making sure the topics with relevant faction information stay clean, up-to-date and readable.
What shouldn't be done is for example silence people by deleting posts if you disagree, or secretly edit someone else's post in a debate or add or remove something to make yourself or a friend look better. If these arguments happen in relevant IC or OOC topics, it's better to split the posts from the posts you want to keep instead of deleting them, though.
It's not rocket science: if you'd find something you're about to do underhanded or unfair when done to you, don't do it.
And never edit, delete or split a DM post from a topic that is still in discussion. There's usually a reason a DM will post in a topic, and once the discussion is over they can be split and moved to a hidden forum, if needed.

I have a comment about DM editing of posts. When a DM edit is done, it does not state who did the editing. I think it's only fair to know who handed me a reprimand if I did something wrong.

I agree with dramatic here. But not just on faction posts, but all posts that DM's edit.
Little annoying.

yes but you can see why they dont post thier name sometimes to avoid unwanted drama if a player has that big of a problem with the edit I'm sure you can PM Nekhy as I think she was the person you went to if you had a problem with a DM or belive it was a unfair banning...ect

I don't really see a problem with an edit. If a DM steps in and edits your post, it's probably because you said something you really shouldn't have. That leaves the DM's with three options: edit the post, delete the post or ban the poster. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I would much prefer the first option over the latter two.
But, this is about forum moderators editing posts, not DM's.

This thread also gives the impression that DMs regularly make edits to players' posts and do so without attribution. This is not true. We very, very rarely do so, and whenever we have to, there may not be a public mention of it made, but a private mention of it is usually made to the player in question. At least I think so. We SO VERY RARELY EVER DO THIS that there's not even really any protocol to it save our own common, ethical sense. Aka, "I see what you did there", making a nearly one-time occurrence seem like a casual trend.

And I find it offensive.

DMs have and do do this - so I particularly find this thread amusing. I do hope Nekhy's post is in retaliation to ALL of those who may be responsible for this and not just 'faction moderators'. I won't mention specific incidents but I have witnessed on many ocassions DMs editing or outright deleting posts due to disagreement or silencing of a particular thought.
This also goes the same for locking threads... I may as well bring this up as it frustrates me beyond all nines. When a DM locks a thread, it is necessary for that DM to remain a neutral, unbias third party and state the reason for lock without any insinuation to a particular individual preference (ie. getting the last word in). It's BAD PLAY, and only spawns resentment for the big kid in the sand box with his pockets full of coins.
Can we also address this issue if we're going to address forms of silencing individuals as ethically wrong?

Faction forum moderators.... as in, people who aren't DM's that have the ability within their faction forums to edit, delete and lock posts and threads. Just to reiterate: Yoss wrote: This thread also gives the impression that DMs regularly make edits to players' posts and do so without attribution. This is not true. So, just because you don't know who edited the post doesn't mean that the person who's post was edited doesn't know. I'm sure there are lots of things that go on behind the scenes that we, as a collective group of players, have no idea about. Things are handled in PM's, via MSN, etc. Just because you don't an explanation doesn't mean that one wasn't given. And for the record, the only edit I've ever seen was because someone posted an exploit and that exploit was removed and an explanation given as to why the post was edited.

I have a log of each and every edit and deletion available. If you think something was unfairly edited it's a matter of a simple check who did and what did.
Though, the DM edits are almost without exception removing stuff that should not be posted such as exploits and specific incidents, followed by a post by the DM who edited.
Disco is the effective head DM, btw, since he's the server host.

And I find it offensive. your offended because a DM removed something for a reason that chances are most DMs would have given seeing it themself and did not post thier name maybe to avoid drama? so lets say Lally is playing a PC who lives in Skeletors Logtown, and I make a post being a giant A-hole and maybe some specific incidents to top it off. lally as a DM would deal with such a post, but your assuming I'm in a bad mood because I just made a very rude post....now their is a chance if I knew who it was I might get mad at them....and maybe even take it out on them IC. so yes I can see why DMs might edit a post and not leave thier name to avoid unwanted drama if they are forced to edit someoness post, sometimes its better to be faceless in cases if the person needs to cooldown, or you have alot of dealings with them IC, but thats just my view.

This almost never happens ever. When it does, it's for reasons said above. However if I do it, I'll sign it. Even when we don't sign it we'll usually explain that we did in a post under it.
It especially won't be happening in Logtown.
