Alright I've been noticing different ways of RPing using a bag of holding. And the following picture tells in summary how all these different ways to RP it end:

Image

No matter what you pick up from the bag, the shape and form won't disturb you from walk. You can easy carry a piano and walk through a door without much problem.

If you cannot without issue pick up a piano, you can not without issue pick it up out of a bag of holding! Lets not forget the actual needing to move it to said bag thing.

They're a fine way of transporting many things. Sometimes large, hungry things, in a matter than RP-wise will make more sense than assuming said large, hungry things have simply been left to roam the area as they wish. This can be upsetting to the locals.

I think people're still attempting to argue the validity of using a Bag of Holding as a corpse/hostage storage medium, amongst other things.

Well, you can't put a piano or anything equally large into a bag of holding. On the outside, it's still a normal bag and not some black hole made of spandex. If you can't fit a corpse or a piano into a normal shoulder bag, you can't fit it into a bag of holding. An elephant won't fit through a mouse hole either, no matter how big the hall on the other side.

I think he was more aiming at the point of "Is there a limit to the size of an object you can actually fit inside the bag?", for example, something that would fit in the actual bag, but on the how it actually gets inside, due to being rather large, like a table or something.

Fudge it - Go with the NWN Engine system. It's the only reasonable explanation i can think of.

Example. Fisherman's friend; Anchor. You can fit a 200lbs anchor in your bag of holding.

Yeah, but the NWN inventory system can be fairly weird as well.. I mean everyone and their mum runs around with at least 5-6 bags of holding.. That's 5-6 Bags that are 2x4 Feet large that aren't hindering your movement. And a few spare suits of armor, shields, weapons and such.. And whatever other kits you have. Also we can't forget that 1 Greater sanctuary scroll, 1 mord scroll and 20 heal potions are the same size as a full platemail suit!

Inventory system breaks realism, sadly.

True. But figuring out a better explanation and forcing everybody to follow it is ... - Not going to happen.

I agree that this discussion is pointless. NWN engine indeed. The bag has a certain inventory space, that's teh biggest you can fit in.
To heavy to lift out? Turn the thing upside down and watch it drop out. Want a put a lamp post in it, I presume you can put a bag over the top and watch it disappear as the bag slides down.

Utter nonesense! Those darn things should even be this commen. Then a players inventory should count what? Six screens? People carrying several full plates along, all that stuff.

NWN isn't realistic with such things in the least bit. It's pointless to nit pick about it.

(Yeah felt good! Going to sleep now)

I wonder what happens if you use a bag of holding as boot liner and put your feet in it.

a bag of holding when turned upside down will spill ALL of its contents onto the floor. if a sharp item is put in there is a chance of breaking the bag. if the bag is broken then all of the contents are whisked away to a place me and my dm group call "lost foreverland" and it is the setting of one of our games in the works featuring its king, the apathy dragon with his house of gold and hoard of lint.
aside. a bag of holding is only as wide as a normal bag. i would say you can only put in something a foot or less wide? but this is my assumption, the dmg is vague on how big the mouth can be. also, length doesnt matter, if you put a bag on a lamp post the whole thing will be sucked in right to the base. but... the base has to be lifted into the bag so good luck. if the base is still connected to the ground or other non moveable than whent he bag is removed the lamp is back where it was. if the bag is destroyed with even a part of the lamppost, arm, leg, head, etc inside then that part is whisked away to lost foreverland and lost forever.
as far as people putting in suits of armor etc. i think its reasonable to assume that the armor is taken apart first. you could put a person in a bag of holding, just a very thin person with shoulder width less than one foot (?) or cut up into pieces.

As far as I remember, and since I don't feel like pulling my PDFs open and looking right now, this is what the DnD books say about Bags of Holding. Read closely the part about living creatures. Just not really feasible.
Also, I wonder what the check would be to try and toss a portable hole into someone's bag of holding :3

Also, I have no idea why this topic was made, seems silly no matter how many times I read the OP.

Not too sure on that part, I just know it's a portal/gate to another plane/dimension

I'm satisfied with the arguments. It's not necessary to keep this thread opened. I thank you all for your contribution.

Bag of Holding

This appears to be a common cloth sack about 2 feet by 4 feet in size. The bag of holding opens into a nondimensional space: Its inside is larger than its outside dimensions. Regardless of what is put into the bag, it weighs a fixed amount. This weight, and the limits in weight and volume of the bag’s contents, depend on the bag’s type, as shown on the table below.
Bag Bag Weight Contents
Weight Limit Contents
Volume Limit Market Price
Type I 15 lb. 250 lb. 30 cu. ft. 2,500 gp
Type II 25 lb. 500 lb. 70 cu. ft. 5,000 gp
Type III 35 lb. 1,000 lb. 150 cu. ft. 7,400 gp
Type IV 60 lb. 1,500 lb. 250 cu. ft. 10,000 gp

If the bag is overloaded, or if sharp objects pierce it (from inside or outside), the bag ruptures and is ruined. All contents are lost forever. If a bag of holding is turned inside out, its contents spill out, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again. If living creatures are placed within the bag, they can survive for up to 10 minutes, after which time they suffocate. Retrieving a specific item from a bag of holding is a move action—unless the bag contains more than an ordinary backpack would hold, in which case retrieving a specific item is a full-round action.

If a bag of holding is placed within a portable hole a rift to the Astral Plane is torn in the space: Bag and hole alike are sucked into the void and forever lost. If a portable hole is placed within a bag of holding, it opens a gate to the Astral Plane: The hole, the bag, and any creatures within a 10-foot radius are drawn there, destroying the portable hole and bag of holding in the process.

Moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Craft Wondrous Item, secret chest.

Fixing that for easier reading. But interesting enough. I'd never read an actual thing about the bags or what not... Is there any type that is smaller / lighter than 15?

asfaik no, theres only the types listen there but im sure you can easily make one with the dmg 1000 easy steps to making your own magic item. -.-. thats all good and well but doesnt actually matter on amia cuz bags of holding are only possibly represented their size by what % weight reduction they give... sad rly but oh well thnx bioware

they would be enchanted with leomunds secret chest. that spell isnt on nwn only a pnp spell so its anyones guess. you can easily assume that if you can make magical items you could have made pouches this way.

I don't know. It might not have had one. But it did make me wonder about the efficacy, utility, recreational value, aesthetic value, and the potential tragedy of a new magical innovation: the vagina of holding.

Which is exactly why I have to lock this thread now, as alamut suggested.
