I'd like to remind everyone of our rules on rape (non-consensual acts of sexual nature) RP.
It's strictly banned on Amia. RPing out a rape scene, as well as including it in a current storyline both are prohibited. Explicit rape, implicit rape, doesn't matter. OOC consent and agreement between all parties involved doesn't make it acceptable, either. It's banned. Period.
This is not a new thing, but has been included in the server rules for years. By playing on Amia you agree to follow our rules, and you are expected to know (or learn) the rules, including the "no rape RP" rule. Please keep that in mind.
Thanks.

Guess I should add that I know there's plenty of players who'd not dream of RPing rape. This reminder applies to you, as well, in the sense that if you see something suspicious or see another player coerced into RPing rape, please remind them of the rules or inform us.

Suggesting it happened though but not actually rping it as so. Where does that stand?
For example. There was a PC who was tortured quite badly in Caraigh a few months back and people kept saying she was "Almost Raped". I was quite confused at the time because how do you "almost rape" someone. Anyway, it was never rped out as far as I know, just assumed it happened.
Also the stereotypical background of most half orc's are that their mother was raped by their father...or...err...vicea versa I guess since its a half orc. Does this rule stop people from rping that background?

Implied rape falls under the rule, as well. All inclusion of rape in current storylines of characters on Amia is prohibited. This one-size-fits-all rule is because we don't want to ban people by accident or waste weeks on investigating false accusations etc. Rape is a bannable offence and our ban-hammer is particularly heavy in this department, too.
What is OK is, say, having your character born to a mother who was raped (as is often the case for half-orcs, for example), or something that happened before the character began their journey on Amia. This includes playing a rapist character, as long as no current raping (implied or real) happens.

the only rape you can do is the kind with grease,stonehold,bigbys...ect paired with a crap load of caltrops on a person....because if geting killed by caltrops is not rape I dont know what is.

Can't get consent from someone who's dead, after all. Or animals, for that matter, but this would probably belong to general cybering discussion since you can kind of get consent from an animal if it's a shifter...

Necrophilia is prohibited as well, in the "gorey stuff" rules. The context is a list of graphic and descriptive stuff, but it's not specified with necrophilia (as it is with graphic cannibalism). I assume it means it is not to happen explicitly and publically, but it might happen implicitly like torture that fades to black. "Oh yes, my necromancer animates zombies to keep him warm - eh, cool, at night." I stress that this interpretation is based on the letter of the rules as they are posted. When we wrote them, I don't think we even discussed "behind the scenes" necrophilia whose target is not a PC, so there's no implicit intention to be gleaned from the rules. Quote: By graphic torture, we mean descriptive and detailed text (emotes or talk) that includes violent scenes that leave little for imagination. This applies to equivalent things such as descriptive cannibalism, removal of body parts/organs or necrophilia. Non-descriptive torture, such as *Stabs his eye out* may happen on the Talk channel if all parties agree. Torture that's not consented to but must happen for the sake of the story, will be said to have happened in a "Fade to Black" manner.

Yeah, a necromancer PC implicitly using his zombie summons to keep him warm at night or something is fine. This rule concerns player characters only, meaning no funny necrophilia with a dead PC character even if it's not explicitly mentioned in the rules.

And I should add that no funny necrophilia or randomly raping of NPCs, btw. That falls under the usage of NPCs rule: players don't get to decide the actions of NPCs or what happens to NPCs without a DM.

A question: Way back when rules were much much looser and cybering occurred in public channels (cover your ears, kids ), events such as this might have occurred. Would bringing up such events - which happened after the PCs arrived in Amia - be okay, or would it be best not mentioned at all? I am assuming the latter on general principle.

Yeah, like I said, we don't want to ban people without a reason and if people cry wolf a lot or include these implied rape situations in stories we jump and start investigating in case there's a player coerced/forced into RP that's against the rules or something else horrible that absolutely shoudln't happen. We take every mention seriously, because you simply never know. And that's why it's all banned, including consensual rape RP, because it'd be nigh impossible to tell apart the bad cases from the "good" cases with the tools available to us. Xaviera wrote: A question: Way back when rules were much much looser and cybering occurred in public channels (cover your ears, kids ), events such as this might have occurred. That's very specific and not relevant to many characters, if any. I don't think rape RP has ever been allowed on Amia, even when cybering was still allowed. But in the hypothetical case we had a character that was raped in the past on Amia, and assuming this was somehow not against the rules at the time of it happening... bringing it up in RP is fine. It's not much different from any other background of a character.

What about NPC storylines? Llewyn Forest did a story back then including rape. His character visited his old village which was raided by orcs and brigades, and well caused the once jolly bard to ultimately become a victim.

That's waaaaaaaay back, years ago and I am not sure of the circumstances of this story. Same applies as what I said above to Xavi's question. And, NPCs fall under the NPC rules, which I posted above.

Just leave it out entirely of any ongoing RP, it's not necessary for anyone's RP experience anyway. Threats and implications just get the DMs sniffing around like blood hounds looking for people to ban.

I'm sad that I missed out on the days when I wouldn't have to hide my cybering. Also, on a more serious note, I know several women (Yeah, I really do. They're not fables.) that are horribly offended by rape and suggestions due to past experiences, so I think the outright ban of anything remotely close to it is a wonderful thing.

Thanks. I don't object to any RP, as long as it has a reason, but I find rape RP to be tasteless and possibly off-putting to some players out there. Plus, it could be a draw to some less than savory individuals who think that this kind of thing is peachy. There's a very distinct possibility that someone in our player's list has actually gone through it, and I respect this rule because doing otherwise might have severe psychological, and possibly legal, ramifications.

Okay.
My opinion is that Rape happens. While it's Tasteless and horrible to do it towards another player's PC; I do not find it weird to do it against NPC's. NPC's doesn't have feelings nor attachment to their characters.
It's Realism. If it happens out in the world, Why not here.

For the record, I consider our approach to rape extreme and beyond my wishes. If I could I would love to rape every single one of your PCs in consistently new and exciting ways with the plethora of NPCs and creatures and monsters and PLCs that I have in my Creator.
Alas, rules are rules, and I'll obey them. I have to set an example, after all.

First because the "culprit" should not find some kind of entertainment or even pleasure out of this, because that is simply sick and disgusting, secondly because there are limits to realize your "fantasies" on an RP server. Those limits exist to show a player that if you want to be a gnome wizard with a dragon as mount thats okay, but if you go out to fullfill your weirdest urges its a NO. Nobody can tell me that someone actually considering to RP rape does it simply for the "storyline", they take a thrill from it.. yet this is my personal opinion and I don't say that I am completely right about everything. I log into an RP server for entertainment and I am glad there are limits aswell as the illusion that there is not such a thing as freaking rapists. I don't want to simulate real life with all it's bloody psychos in it, I wanna simulate a character with superpowers and a gripping story.

I for one am GLAD for the Rape rules being in place.
Rape is a very sensitive topic at best and at worse, an act for which I believe the Death Penalty in real life should apply if it's proven beyond reasonable doubt. But, let's keep that debate out of this topic please.
Torture is a seperate matter and one can torture or psychologically inflict upon another without breaking Amia's rules alltogether *although it also has stringent requirements*.
Addendum seeing Crow's reply: I admit, when I hear of Rapists, homicide does come to mind yes.

That's exactly what bothers me, this is a gameserver and I am not logging in to be confronted with exactly the same shit as in real life, on a server you can luckilly make rules such as rape being out of the discusssion. Murder is fine, and not nearly as vile. Look, the rule was stated and re-iterated, no need to wallow in pure Judeo-Christian ideals where a symbol on which all dignity for a subordinate being rests is more valuable than life.

And so the tentacle monsters continue their mourning. Meanwhile, Japanese schoolgirls rejoice and celebrate.

Uh, for once I hope this is locked before more nonsense is shared in the spirit of the mob. I don't really want to argue this, because there are good reasons for rape RP to be banned, but its supposed sickness and depravity or some touchy-feely therapy guidelines aren't among them.

Agreed with Angel. This can turn really bad really fast. Fairly certain the point was made on the first post. DON'T DO IT.

My opinion is that Rape happens. While it's Tasteless and horrible to do it towards another player's PC; I do not find it weird to do it against NPC's. NPC's doesn't have feelings nor attachment to their characters.
It's Realism. If it happens out in the world, Why not here. Oh wait, I was just making a bad joke. Now I reserve the right not not RP with you, Svensk.
