I know on Layonnara it came up once to disable tells because their an OOC tool or something.. anyway, a player said he was going to disable his tells for a week or something and see how it effected his game play. I'm trying to figure out how to turn tells off so they don't appear at all, i know it is in the options somewhere, i just cant quite figure it out. So i thought id ask and see if anyone knows, while i keep looking. Thanks!

No don't freak out, I'm not asking for this to be done here. No i don't need your input about how tells are useful to make RP.

I asked this same thing about Party Chat.
Right click on the top bar (not the little arrow) of the chat box.
An option menu will pop up and you can choose from there.

You can change the text color for tells to all 0s in the NWNplayer.ini and it will either be gone or entirely un-readable. You will still see who sent it though.

As far as I remember, that radial menu doesn't include Tells explicitly. It has something like "normal talk", which I suspect might include Tells, but that's all.

Kudark... that advice is good for disabling party chat, but not direct tells.

Xenos... a while back, I invested a bit of time in searching the Bioware forums and so forth, trying to find exactly what you're looking for (I was playing on a different server at the time and getting harassing tells pretty frequently), but the general consensus seemed to be that it couldn't be done. Further, I'm not sure you'd want to even if you could, not for the OOC vs RP reasons you mention, but just because tells are how the DMs will talk to you if they need to.

You can't, short of changing the colour like Mahtan said.

Thanks Lizzie,
I don't use the menu, but that's what I was told how to disable the stuff.

If you want to keep out stuff like that, disable partychat, and go to Game Options -> Feedback Options, then disable everything. It'll keep people's names from appearing above their heads. And you can keep text bubble to "Text only" to not get any names.. then you're as close to full immersion as possible. Suggest also getting the camera hack that lets you zoom in as far as a makeshift 1st person view!

There's a -notells option on Arelith, which allows you to shut off all tells or select players you want to receive tells from. I assume that the Whitelist always includes DMs (people who can send tells). I know they hate changing the module around, but it might be worth looking into?

Totally trying all of this...

Where do I get this camera hack?

Disabling tells would stop DM's from contacting you as well.

As much as I'd love to shut some people up sometimes for getting on my nerves with the green text... There are a few people who don't complain about Rockethead's roleplaying of an "antlered barn owl paladin" or Stacycow's dislike of how Svromfindel Flarktbarst runs the "Blue Newts of Tormatar" who are worth talking to.

So you have to replace the .exe file to use it? Hm...

Seems like it has the potential to screw up the game. I suppose I'll try it anyways.

It's safe. I've used it for over a year now. :)
