It's not impossible at all to delete them. What is impossible is to bring them back when the players who swore they never want to play again, want to play again.
Well OK, it's not impossible impossible since a character can be remade, but it's a huge pain in the ass. And I for one will not put up with the deletion/Oh-wait-I-wanna-play-after-all circus.

If you mean cleaning out old rebuilded empty characters, sure thing. If you mean deleting a full character, no way. Let those go into archives.

Is this a way to do it? It's a way to possibly permanently fuck up your character vault and do other unforeseen consequences so, no , I don't suggest you take this as a fun idea to do to "erase characters". Deleting your characters is easy as hell. I go into the vault, I right clikck and delete, it's over in 5 seconds. We just don't, because a year down the road, people stop being emo and even though they retired the character for good because the DM hate me/I left forever/I got married/etc etc, they decide they want to come back because my faction is awesome now/the evil DM is gone/my friends started playing again/etc etc.

The best way to retire characters is not to delete them, but to make a new character that you want to play for a good reason.

I'd suggest having the crafting script altered so you can't alter the appearance of the items that can potentially break your char, or shouldn't even be altered in the first place. (Like holdeables)
