Please post your traceRT reports here.
Please do so only when you experience great lag on the server.

Here's how to do a traceRT for Amia.

1. Open up your CMD. To do this, click run, or type in run in search.
Image

2. Type CMD into the bar and click okay.
Image

3. Type in the following when the black box appears.
Quote:

4. Select all the text in the CMD window, copy and paste.

Edit 7/12/2010: Try and keep this just for reports. Yabbering to the minimum. If you have questions about my screenies, please PM me.

This is what I call good initiative. I have been pasting mine to Disco's MSN but this should be easier to keep track of.

I'd just like to point out a few things to the Australians out there: if you want better ping than 700ms most of the time, consider switching from TPG to a company that actually peers with nodes around the world, instead of going from Sydney -> East US -> West US -> London -> Various parts of Europe -> Holland.

Internode might help, as will iiNet. Enjoy.

Yes, I'm not to fussed if people know my name.
Heh, you can also see I keep logs of all the characters in factions that I know of. Good practice if you ask me so you don't forget, since it's so easy to do that.

Also, in your perfectly legitimate version of Windows 7, you can just type cmd in the search box of the start menu. No need to open the legacy run prompt.

Did you know that if you hold alt when pressing prnt-scrn you printscreen your currently active window instead of your whole desktop?

Can't mark and copy-paste a Screenshot. I do believe you need the numbers, right? It would be dead tiresome to sit and copy each of the digits from a screen, to the Tester/Developer forums.
That is, If you need them.

What version of windows do you have? Because you can copy/paste from powershell by highlighting and hitting the enter key.

Easymode:

Download this and run it (you might need admin privileges). Done!

Doityourselfmode:

Open CMD (need to do that as admin in vista win7+) type: "tracert 84.243.255.52 > C:\trace.txt" without the quotes. Wait until the command is done then go to C open trace.txt hit ctrl+a ctrl+c and ctrl+v it into where you need it.

example:

Code:
Tracing route to mail.amiaworld.net [84.243.255.52]

Domainname isnt amiaworld.net its mail.amiaworld.net. The IP (84.243.255.52) should work reguardless. 8)

Infact: http://mail.amiaworld.net = http://amiaworld.net.

... or amiaworld.net is actually broken. Which could be a problem.

You should also be able to actually direct connect to the address ingame with mail.amiaworld.net:5121 and or amiaworld.net:5121. Swap the port to 5122 for Amia B.

Edit: Yep. mail.amiaworld.net is Amia's real domain-name. That might actually be a real problem.

Try it without the http:// i.e. with just the www.etc.
I found that fixed that particular error for me.

Yes, as yurell says. No HTTP, only www.amiaworld.net. Sorry I thought I'd removed that, but it automatically add's the HTTP when you edit.

The domain mail.amiaworld.net is done by reverse IP. For some reason it's needed for mailing.

Things began to go bad and I couldn't even open my inventory. Started a Tracert at around 20.50 GMT +1, during the trace, I was disconnected from the game. It seems to be the node before mail.amiaworld.net that is the bandit.

Actually that's not a bad connection speed at all. No where near. The higher it is, the worse it is.
Example of a bad report is this one from Yurell earlier this year.

Wow... just wow... I don't think I'd even be able to play on a connection like that.

Those pings (well, outside the pathetic result from yurell) don't seem to be that bad. Svensk is a bit iffy because it's not from that far away, but I guess Selvec's one is about what you would expect from something that's rerouted all over the planet.

At the times those logs were posted both forums and NWN went bonkers?

Nope. Just when it was a bit laggy. Like delays that caused me to crash or something.

Actually I've noticed a few people with decent internet speeds complaining about lag over the last week (Minus me, my issues is Data Cap being used up). But when they run traceRT there is nothing wrong.

I've noticed lag as well, especially in the forest areas lately. If I'm with any more than just myself, it's even worse, even just running is making me skip all over the place.
Last night was bad for lag, worse so far.

I noticed today that I got the Attack icon jumped into my skill queue, and had to log out and back in to clear it.

I would suspect an incorrect port setup for two or more computers sharing a router, but this has been happening at almost any time of the day or night.

I've been having weird lags, too.
I've noticed them in running, where I'll run, pause, continue run, pause, etc.
I've noticed it when trying to hit a hotkey action and with no results
I've noticed it when going through the different tabs on the merchant items, where I will go from weapons to armor, and there's like a 5 second delay before the armor widow clicks over and fills up.
The same thing I've noticed on my inventory windows, as well.

I did my Tracert

And while watching it, I noticed two long resolution pauses, which I noted it. While the times may not be different, it took additional time to actually print the results.

I'm noticing a couple of hicups in other people's Tracert at the CSW hop. It could be that there's a failure in DNS resolution or a router on the path having excessive traffic.

I get it. And, you might be right.

You know, there could be a general flood over the net if there's any kind of new virus about.

I remember when code red hit all those years ago. Constant slow downs, crashing of routers, blockage of ip addresses because lots of servers thought people were trying to hack them.

I"m just saying this as I'm seeing a lot of high response times on those Tracerts.

I did some experimenting, trying different other sites I visit. None of them have the kind of high response time that we are.
I don't know if that's because this is an active game server, or something else.

Both Amia A and B have been pinging between 190 and 700 on the gamespy listing, when i normally ping around 120-140

Right now several people got disconnect to Amia A and gamespy says it is down, but Amia B is working. But when you log into Amia B it still shows people logged into A, and any portal attempts from B to A results in a server timeout.

I've noticed increased lag myself this past week. If I can figure out this traceRT thing I'll try to post something more helpful than, "hey I'm lagging!"

I've run tracert several times over the last few days and the latencies dont go higher than 120 - 150 ms over 15-20 hops, even when I have delays of 2-5 s in talking or when I'm timing out of Amia.

Carbonite was going bonkers from 25th onwards, it seems. It's been replaced with another backup program now, and that should reduce lag.

Hey guys I "really" need some help here. This began friday night and now its sunday morning at my location. For three days i've bene experiencing lag unlike any other before. It's so terrible I can hardly move about in game. The tracer T report is as below. Judging from above posts mine probally takes the cake as the worst. I can access other servers in nwn, just not amia, and my amia website is slow as heck as well. Other then that my internect connection is fine, i can donwload movies etc super fast...and other servers are fine when it comes to NWN , just amia. Can someone please help me.
