..What would it be..? or rather, what would you want it to be?

Or is this Off-Topic? Regardless, I'm bored as Hell at my job and I forgot to bring my novel. So I'm going to take it out on the forums.

For me..? hrm.. Planescape, perhaps... I don't really know much about others.

Planescape? Pffft. Hell no.

Eberron. I want Beldor to have a magic rifle, dammit.

I feel like Eberron is a less developed FR with a few new bells and whistles to make it seem a bit distinct. But I don't really know that much.

The Netherese make pistols.

I'd have to go with Greyhawk or Krynn.
Anything else and I wouldn't be here.

Yes, but in Eberron, the bells and whistles are powered by steam and techno-magic! ;P

But now that I think about it, I'd actually prefer Pathfinder. Maybe a mashup of the two.

Ravenloft is an awesome setting I just -love-, but it does not fit as it is renaissance and most people on amia can not play fear, prejudice or intolerance. Ebberon is just silly and lame with all that silly and lame stuff and Greyhawk for me just does not have any depth. Oh, and Planescape is awesome but it is damn hard to play freak characters and most freak characters I have met just freak me out.

Yeah, Ravenloft is great, but far too serious for Amia. I agree.

I found Ravenloft kinda one dimensional. Everything's dark and little possibility for other aspects.

Yep. By its very nature it doesn't have the flexibility to serve in nearly as diverse an array of compaigns as Greyhawk or FR. It gives up a lot of the general use for a unique specialization. That's the point of it. I don't think that makes it ill-conceived or whatever.. I still think it's great because it does its job like no other.

Eberron:
 Summoning a Dragon of any color means the dragon may kill you and everyone else in order to keep their secrets safe. Also dragon color means jack and shit there. So summon your silver and watch it turn a town into a skating rink for kicks!

 Elves have a thing for undead.

 Clerics get spells based on belief instead of some god doling them out.

 Giant robots, er, Warforged, wandering the streets like tricked out mini medieval Gundams that think for themselves with names like Cutter, Bolt, and Scout.

 People can kill you in your dreams.

 Dragon marks give you fun stuff making for creating interesting RP situations full of intrigue.

 Halflings rule over Dinotopia.

 Artificers make everything better.

Yep. Warforged and mecha are legit outlets in Eberron. In other words, you know it was coming:

Greyhawk would be decent. Whatever it might have been, for the love of gods, not Eberron. I can't stand that campaign settings. It was like it was designed by 10-year-olds.

"Lady Vol... um. She'll be an elf. NO... an undead elf!"
*yelling from the kitchen* "And a dragon!"
"Yes, that would be totally awesome! An undead elf dragon!"

Planescape, obviously. I don't see how anything could compete.

Planescape and low fantasy don't belong in the same sentence.

Anyways, there's no real substitute. The closest feel would be planescape. I don't know enough about other settings to really pick.

Definitely not. Therefore the word or and lack of the word other. :)

Planescape is my favourite high fantasy setting by far. Most other favourites tend to be low fantasy.

Dragonlance. It's pretty much FR with a lot less gods, stronger story, and better balanced magic system.

I would say Dragonlance, but I shudder to think what certain parts of this playerbase would do to the RP of Kender...

Pathfinder. Golarion.

It's seperate from WotC, so its safe from heretical changes.

Amia is not FR. It doesn't use FR cosmology.

It is FR with some customisations. Otherwise you're telling me that if I make Elminster a different level, or put a kobold cave where there should be a goblin one I'm no longer FR.

We're FR. We are FR because the DMs say so. And as a matter of fact, we do use their cosmology, but the simple fact is that cosmology is not the determinent for whether or not we are a particular setting or not.

I asked about this ages ago and got a conflicting answer. So Amia is 100% FR cosmology, i.e. the tree?

If Amia wasn't as it is now... I likely wouldn't still play here.

Also Amia is Forgotten Realms setting + some homebrewn stuff like the snow-elves.. no?

I suppose I sohuld have clarified, yus.

We use FR cosmology to an extent, seeded within the great Wheel cosmos. So Brightwater exists as a part of Arboria. The House of the Triad is situated in the Seven Mounting Heavens of Celestia. Loviatar and Bane's domain is part of an appropriate layer of Hell and a godly domain unto itself. Oghma and God probably make their home on Mechanus. Silvanus is situated in the Beastlands.

We do use the cosmology, we simply seed it within the cosmos that most DnD players tend to be more familiar with. So if you refer to a FR place ICly, no one will thikn you're odd. You're perfectly correct. You're just referring to an area within that specific plane.

How awesome wouldn't it be if a group of players requested to play Azuposi from Maztica? Just to show how insanely alien you can be without going into the depths of Toril or another plane.
