The PvP rules still have the old clause that you must provide an OOC raise. However, this hasn't been relevant since Disco added the function that you automatically get up from PvP death after a while. So should the rule be removed, or does it still apply?

You could always change it to being the "polite thing to do" but as far as rules, eh, no need if the automatic-bringer-back-to-life-thingy works without any problems.

Remove it to avoid confusion.

Thing is, though, it's not polite IMO. At least I don't want the immersion further ruined by "//OOC raise" and then pretending to be dead, when there's a relatively unobtrusive system in place to deal with it already.

It can also be misunderstood when OCC raised, and further break Immersion.

//A - What? I thought i was alive?
//B - No, you're not, Lay back dead.
//A - But i've already Killed 3 people?

OOC raises are not mandatory, just out of courtesy.

Yes we know this, :)
The author's first topic stated it.

Question is if we're to remove the Line in the rules saying it's mandatory.

wrong

"If you do enter into RP inspired PvP that results in deaths of any PC (Player Character), you must provide an OOC raise for that character (either by yourself, or arrange for someone else to do it)."

mind you as the first post says,I dont think that rule ever got updated since disco added the change along time ago, but no DM changed the rule so it was still in effect all this time.

maybe someone should go and look at a bunch of the older pages and update/remove stuff.(also new DM ruling on this subject?)

Actually I completely recall Disco stating that if you wish death to have meaning then you can refuse an OOC raise....especially if said player continually comes back and poses the ever present "I just died five minutes ago and I'm attacking you again anyways".

Also you can have said dead player not return to the area where they died until reset.

And yes...the rule for mandatory raise just hasn't been updated.

You can refuse to -be- OOC raised, not refuse to give one.

Yes...you can refuse to give a raise, it was stated the time wen the fugue plane was installed. I got into an arguement with a DM a while back for this exact thing. They overturned their decision to punish me because the rule simply hasn't been updated.

Mind you this doesn't mean you should not give an OOC raise...but as I stated before, there are times when players keep coming back too much and it's causes OOC grief to the extreme.

I don't think I've ever been left laying on the ground long enough for the PvP timer to kick over and automatically raise me so I don't know firsthand if it works right or not. I'd assume it does or else there would have been a thread about it being bugged.

That said, I guess the rule could be stricken from the books as it's not really needed now. I still think it's nice to give someone a raise, though. It keeps them from having to lay there and wait until the timer clicks over.

I'd Quietly wait for an actual DM to rule.

Just sayin'.

I do not believe you automatically get up; rather, the respawn button will allow you to get up where you are, if you died from PvP death (without being on the more "Brutal" PVP settings [that no one uses anyways?]).

Oh, you're right. Either way, the change made (mandatory or otherwise) "OOC raises" rather obsolete. Back in the day, you could be killed by PvP for real, respawn penalties and all, hence the raises. Now you can't get Respawn penalties from PvP no matter what. Probably clearer to remove all mention of them.

I said "I do not believe" because I wanted to make absolutely sure in game that nothingcan go wrong if you click respawn before your time and that it works after the time.

If it does work, yes, OOC raises are probably moot.

Standard pvp tool setting only knocks you out and lets you wake up 5 mins later.

Duel kills you, not sure if it lets you magically respawn.

Brawl knocks you "out of the fight" so to speak. Hitting respawn sends you back to wherever you start when you log in.

Yes, I'm aware, but I have not tested the physical mechanics of it.

That is fair. If Disco's system of bringing you back works flawlessly then I would say yes remove the rule. My main concern is if there is a mess up in the script that doesn't bring you back and well then you are stuck since the guy who just killed you "doesn't" have to bring you back cause the rules don't make him.

I'm all for leaving people dead and making them respawn. That goes for me when I lose, as well. I don't see the fire giants offering me an OOC raise, why should PvP be any different than PvE?

Careful what you wish for lest bands of adventurers team up slay and loot monster PCs because PvP and PvM are the same...

well befor discos PVP settings were in game, nothing was stoping some crap RP reason PVP to kill you just to force you to respawn just so you have to lose gold and exp, the OOC raise rule may havee not stoped crap RP reasons for PVP, but it stoped the leaving them dead for 4hours to respawn or wait for reset.

where in the case of firegiants, you went there.
