Clan Hammerfeast Ideally looking for 2-3 players (in addition to myself) interested in kicking off a Dwarven group of related pc's (most likely siblings or cousins). Why 2-3? I'm not trying to create a faction but an RP group and I find that size manageable for purposes of coordinating times and keeping things flowing. It's a large enough number where if one player is unavailable or drops out the remainder can continue on, but also leaves room in a party for outsiders to join in. Dwarves are an underplayed race here on Amia, yet they possess a unique and rich history replete with reviled enemies and fast friends, ample RP avenues, and have a Prestige Class to call their own.
The General Theme: The Hammerfeast's hail from the reknowned Citadel Adbar in the Silver Marches region of Northern Faerun. A Clan of small to moderate size but of high repute in the traditionalist manner, they have many generations of service in the vast and highly regarded smithing economy of Citadel Adbar. Although each Clan member selects a specific specialty, none are favored over others, such that the Clan brings a broad range of forging services to the marketplace. The Clan elders enforce upon their brethren a strong patriotic regimen. To reach the rank of "Journeyman" in the Clan Trade heirarchy and shed the "Apprentice" moniker a crafter must, in addition to displaying a high acheivement in their trade, also join and train dutifully with the Citadel Adbar Defense Forces which produces some of the finest Dwarven Defenders in all of Faerun. Unlike some Clans, both male and female Hammerfeasts may choose this path, the requirements being identical for both. This has the effect of allowing the Clan to post some of the highest rankings of all Citadel Adbar Clans in Defense Force participation, on a percentage basis of course, the absolute size of the Clan not being vast in comparision to the larger and more noteworthy Clans. The Clan takes duty, rank, and honor quite seriously. The ability to log a long, hard, dirty, and sweaty day of toil is considered a blessing. Work quality is assured by a lifetime warrantee and a makers mark on every piece of Hammerfeast goods sold outside the Citadel. All items are expected to outwork and outlast all non-dwarven made goods of comparable type.
I'll be reading the Forgotten Realms book "The Silver Marches" by Ed Greenwood to get a flavor for the environment they hail from to enliven and enrich the RP for myself. I bought it for about 10 bucks used on Amazon (including delivery), if you are interested consider buying a copy for yourself. Those interested in some details of life in Citadel Adbar on the web should look here.....http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Citadel_Adbar
So, why are we here in the Amia environs? Mithril deposits in their home territory, though still substantial, have been on the wane for some time. The allocation of Mithril bars to small to midsized Clans like Hammerfeast has been problematic. This results in some outmigration of crafters, particularly those with an adventurous bent, to distant lands in search of more reliable supplies. After due inquiry, the writing of formal proposals, and earning of a hard won approval from the Clan elders a small group of Hammerfeast Clan crafters/defenders has determined to make such a journey to the Isle of Brogdenstein in the vast Western Seas, where a rumored small outpost of hardy brethren has made home in an inhospitable land with a climate similar to that of the Northern Silver Marches. What mark, what imprint will be left by these new arrivals? What tales told? What work and craft of fine manufactory be made? The ship bumps to a stop at the docks and amid the sailors busy furling sail and coiling rope down the gangway comes...................so their story begins.
Requirements: Yes, there are a few character related things that will be required based on the background/theme. You may be saying to yourself "requirements?, that sounds restrictive". Well not really and here's my reasoning:
1) In defining a character from a lawful and strict traditionalist background and attempting to surround him with related characters hailing from the same background, it makes sense to have some commonality in key traits. Throwing in a heretical outcast and setting the scene for familial conflict wouldn't interest me. The conflict RP will come in a different form as you will see. 2) Secondly, the base commonalities are consistent with the theme and there is ample room for customization to player tastes and of course as the RP progresses the directions taken can vary.
If you decide you don't like it then don't join. I understand this may limit interest on the part of some players but I'm willing to take that chance.
I'm interested. Tell me about it!: To avoid ruining the fun (and possible metagaming) I'll not publish the requirements and RP ideas on this public forum. I will provide the details to ANYONE (yes, anyone - even YOU) who might be interested via PM, then you, and only you, will know our secret handshake, get our special decoder ring, and find out what's hidden behind our beards. I have included some (hopefully) good RP ideas about how to make this interesting, unique, and fun. If you have ANY interest, let me know, even if you get the info and decide it's not for you I won't hold it against you, ....... until we meet in a darkened cavern......errr nevermind. I also hope the group will join me in running some small scale RP events that could warrant DM involvement. I do not personally enjoy big serverwide events and I hope to entice a DM that likes to run small events. Outlines of some prospective events included in the PM and they will be things of a Dwarvish flavor that might draw in pc's from a variety of backgrounds. I'd love some creative help fleshing them out!
Who am I and how do I roll?: I've been on the server for 4 years playing a variety of PC's and this will not be my only character. I like a mix of RP and "Action RP". I don't mind conflict with other PC's who would reasonably clash with mine. In such cases I take either winning or losing in stride and maintain a 'go with the flow' approach. I level slowly. I expect it to take 6 months to a year to level this pc if the group sticks together. This is both due to my playtimes and my preference to give a character time to grow, mature and build a history, not erupt on the scene quickly. I expect the pc's in this group to remain in party range, so if you want to race to 30 in a few weeks and discard this PC for the next flavor of the month, this is probably not the best choice for you. It doesn't matter to me if I know you or not, part of the purpose of this is to meet players and expand my horizons on Amia. So don't be shy.
Other Important details of a logistical nature: I expect to play this PC 1-2 times per week on average and consistently but not on a set schedule. I live in the US Eastern Timezone and playtimes start around 11PM for me. If this is not a good time for you, take that into account. I'm an older player so I have a job and family. This means I'm not typically on for long sessions. 1-2 hours at a time is my usual. I travel for work at times, so a week may go by without much playtime from me. I'll know when this will occur in advance. I do not plan to be "in charge" either in a IC or OOC way. Aside from the general background/theme, where the RP goes is where we go and you'll be in control of your pc.
This is an OOC thread so comments from players are welcomed as well as PM's from interested parties.

I actually got a dwarven crossbow marksman i never started playing much. If you aren't a stranger to adoption, i'd be very much interested.

Valygar 'Stonesnake' Stark -Human Ranger Garret Smith - Archer and peddler of deity-statuettes Dáin Saltbeard - Dwarven sailor and fencer. No, I'm not joking.
I have a dwarven cleric of Marthammor Duin. I quit playing him because I made him to specifically help and RP with other dwarves and I couldn't find many other dwarves.

May sound odd from someone who plays a few of them, but I find dwarven RP really dull when it's with other dwarves. It's only fun for me when you're mixing with other races and playing up the differences in culture.
Meh... Proper dwarven RP is very hard to come by. These days the dwarves just drink, beat up everyone and act like jackarses anyway. We need grim Warhammer dwarf action!

I'm having a great time playing a dwarf at the moment; he's stroppy, suspicious, and xenophobic, Most of this attitude comes from the quite obvious act that dwarves are better then anyone else and it's high time everyome realized it. Thus far Olaf, my dwarf, has walked arount being a dwarf and RP has come to him. Many creatures; be they evil, bearers of traditional enmity or simply sharing differing opinions, have had run ins with Olaf. Non e of these have ended in violence.
Olaf is LG and as such he cannot just attack every sod that calls his moter a beardless Hin foot... as too the real grim dwarf RP, I'm not 100% sure where you're coming from there. Dwarfs hold grudges, of that there is no doubt; if you spend all your time with grudges however, what the hell els edo you do?

I've been active with my Ironkeg Dwarf. Tor_dek ressurected an old PC, Val'rok Ironkeg and he has another Ironkeg, Lefur... we also have a new member wo's name slips my mind right now.... Barak Runedar is active.

Fair enough as far as it goes. I've not played many and usually he was the only dwarf around so I can't comment. I will say it's my goal to heartily mix with other races, whatever the outcome. In this case my ideal is for the mix to be less "one lonely dwarf and a multitudinous pack of elves/hin/outsiders/draconics" and more of the reverse. I do relish the opportunity to play up the culture angle.

Got 2 players interested and 1 potential slot left open.
I'm hoping to find someone interested in playing Dwarven Cleric. You'd have to follow a Dwarven pantheon deity who accepts LN or LG clerics and be LN or LG.

Oye, you better give me credit for that one, the LOTR nerd that i am. We need to replace 'Baruk' with the word for hammer, but i have no idea what that is

Norse Hammar is too obvious and familiar and Finnish is more suitable for elves. As Tolkien based Khuzdul off Hebrew phonologically and morphologically, and D&D just rips off Tolkien linguistically for the most part (not too mention everywhere really) I'd go with M-Q-B-T which is the root for hammer, maul or sledge and just fill in the vowels however.

I looked for a english-hebrew translator that would work for me, but failed. I do like the finish, polish and irish words though. Shall we us one of those?

Nothing wrong in Hammer. Dwarves are described speaking with a harsh Scottish accent. I wouldn't suggest pulling other dialects or languages into it.
Elven's based on Finnish? Never heard the slightest similarity in the two.
Elves are sissies and girlie. Therefore I'd say they're closer to our western neighbours!
And WH dictionary had some rather good dwarven words. I chose the name for Hunie's sword from there.
