But always seem to post on forums with a multitude of characters. Characters that are never in game, because they never play. Whats up with this?

I have three characters who I play regularly the rest are mostly Ideas I had and tried out and didn't fit, ones I lost intrest in or ones who are so old (RL wise) that everything they know is completly changed now.

If they are never in game, then it does not affect roleplay, so why do you care if they use their time to post on a forum? This is clearly a vague nod to a specific incident and unless a reason can be posted as to why you have made this very clear jab at someone, I see no reason to keep the topic open.

It can affect roleplay, if you're using an old character to vote, for example. It's a side-effect of immortal characters.

Then you must trust the DMs to also understand when characters are inactive, as this is something we can check at our whim. We aren't stupid, you know, and we do take these things into account.

I did not even know people did it, but this should settle it.

There are sooo many characters I don't see in game. But I don't play 168 hours per week. There are some very VERY well known characters that I've only ever seen once or twice in the 4-5 years I've been playing. So the relatively lesser known characters I'm sure I'd have seen far less.

Is there a point behind this thread? Are you asking why people do this, or is it just a way to attack them without making your OP seem directly inflammatory?

Tormak has it right. The DM's know this kind of thing and can adjust to it as they see fit. I do understand the frustration at seeing all these characters attached to someone's name and not having ever heard of a single one... but Amia is a world-wide server and they may very well be in a timezone completely opposite from your own.

if you mean the pc threads, i'd guess its just people using their older characters which are perhaps less used, to comment on something relevantly.

also I agree if your not using a character, or do but haven't in a while, stick to posts with the ones you are using. also disguises =3 though I usually put which character I actually mean for ooc referance.

I'm not sure what your getting at here, if theres a specific incident that occured because someone was away/not using that character you should PM a DM.

Sounds about right.

seems to be what he's getting at is players using a character they haven't played in quite some time, to respond IC'ly to something otherwise they'd have no access too IC'ly. Posting OOC'ly...it's a free forum, free to the extent of having should be self governed by common courtesy and civil respect... But yeah could've been written better but I think thats the jist of it.

I understand where he's coming from. Although Tormak is mostly right, it hasn't always been that the DM's step up to stop bullying old and influential PC's/players.

If it happens, tell a DM. But Tormak is right in that if they're not online and on the server as the PC, they usually hold little weight anyway. However, there are certain PC's who do still have tons of pull who could potentially do that type of stuff. I haven't seen it done in a long time though, personally.

I would have to add also, sometimes real life just simply takes over. I mean I was gone about a year, having to drop cold all my rp on all my characters. It wasn't my choice mind you but RL must come first sometimes.

I mean what happens in a couple months when I will be moving from Norway to Canada, not only having to set up a job and a home IRL but again NwN will take to being put on a back burner during that transition. Only difference being is that this time I can prepare all the rp ahead of time so that people involved with my characters get the heads up. It is my intention to use the forums (borrowing a comp to do so) to be able to keep in touch with the server and my friends.

Bottom line is... REAL LIFE first... always. Sometimes people just can't play. Deal with it.

Im more bothered by how a notice that gets tacked up somewhere somehow always ends up becoming an irc chatroom.

You might have noticed that I or the Eternal Order indeed do not. :)

Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they are not online.

For example, you live in one timezone, they live in another. Thus, you may miss them. Also, sometimes people only manage to get on once a week, even less at times. They fill in this lack of avaliability due to OOC reasons by making their IC presence still felt in posting on the website boards. It can be a bit of an issue espically for leaders of groups or others who are in high demand for RP, particularly if they cannot get online due to something they cannot change. As such, they need to make themselves known, or stonewall a lot of peoples RP. The website provides a useful alternative.
