Last 9 months have been a bit of a bumpy ride for me. In November me and my fellow workers were told we were going to be laid off. I must say I am not the nostalgic type so I am not emotionally shattered, but things like this take a lot time and focus. Time that hasn't been spent on Amia.

Anyway, I got my future sorted out but it will cost me most of my spare time, so Amia-wise there doesn't seem to be a lot of progress. I don't think it's a good idea to be the big dude when you don't have the time to deal with the responsibilities that come with such a position, so I asked Machiavelli's Dead to take over my "what goes in and what doesn't and are the DM's happy about it?" duties and Jehran to do module integration and that sorta things.

As far as NWN goes I'll try to make some time to finish Caraigh and the UD, and I'll deal with the Job System. I'll also keep hosting and maintaining the server and the forums. For the rest I am off. Don't bother me with DM stuff, or anything not mentioned above. I won't bother either. Treat me like a Designer, that's about it for the next two years, I think.

I'll stay around, don't worry (or don't be too happy), it's just a major cutting down on hours and responsibilities.

O, I am going to be a primary school teacher. The next few months I'll be teaching 4-5 year olds how to hold a crayon. Huzzahs!

Best of wishes Disco. Go dabble in real life.

Also... get the buggers when they are young... this is your chance to brainwash them and make them over forever in your image.

You can have a whole legion if tiny tots to do your bidding!

Teach them to fear the Chicken.

Well, the father of a good friend of mine worked with that age as well and I'll never forget this remark: "So this little child comes to me and say 'sir, I lost my dress'. And then you realise it's Monday morning 8:35, and it won't get a lot better.".

Yeah, but as soon said child looks at you and goes "Thank you, Mr. Chicken" with a huge smile on their face, it'll make the day all better.

Dryrunning code with crayons is pure pro man. Can already picture you telling the kids to use blue for datatypes, red for strings and green for comments. :D

Congrats and thanks for all the hard work for Amia, it's simply the best server out there. Perhaps you could find time to play in-game to blow off steam. I don't believe I ever saw you play in Amia.

Mind that the bit about Mach and Jehran combined with "don't bother me" is the more important part of the original post. I should have known that putting two messages in one post is asking for trouble. :D

But ... but ... you're the chicken! You can't have a real life!

That said, good luck with the children! I know I was insufferable at that age (but I still always behaved!) - and I wish you luck in dealing with a couple of dozen mini-mes! That said, I considered teaching at some point, but I wouldn't be able to stand children misbehaving for no reason >.<

Enjoy your time off, and we'll be counting down those two years and preparing an ambush for your triumphant return to uberchickenhood.

Edit: I said 'That said' too many times. Be well, my grain-fed free-range avian overlord!

It's hard to think of many who have done such a lot of good work for the server, so it's a well deserved break (though I'm sure you'll be pining for Amia after RL kicks you in the teeth a few times, or just dribbles and gets sick all over you)

So long as there's no fowl play, it's important to remember to beak-eeping an eye on the kids. And.. and... cock... there we go. Best wishes!

Teaching kids is the most wonderful job in the world and I doubt you'll regret your choice of career. I've been teaching for more than ten years now and there are few days I regret in all this time. Just remember that money isn't the reward for a job well done, it's a smiling child.

Believe it or not, by about age 16 they're tolerable again. It's the whole 13-15 you gotta watch out for.

I'm also helping Jehran with integration when it comes to areas being put in, so --yeah, there's that.

I'm a mother of a 10 year old and a Just-turned-13-so-I-Know-it-all. I've also been a volunteer teacher's assistant for two years to kindergartners.

You WANT the 4-5 year olds. You want to be there and stay there for the beginning at least because once they get old enough to really formulate their own opinions, yours doesn't matter as much without a hammer to knock it into thick little skulls.

Then again I was the one sending the little kids home with colored playdough and stories of why the real Cinderella had attack birds at her wedding to keep her sisters from stabbing her at the altar.

Perhaps too much?

Long to short, THANK YOU and Good Luck!

o... REALLY?

I already noticed, and you can skip "married". I shamelessly used it to get a very good sod off arrangement with the University, of which the personal and financial staff is (wo)manned by older women. They were all like "sooo nice of you... o.. o", and apparently didn't pay much attention to what they were signing.

The world need more smart primary school teachers, good to see another join the ranks. Shoot me a PM if you're hunting for resources. Most of my friends are teachers(secondary and primary) and they'll be happy to help out.

Have a look for the 'teaching ethics and philosophy in junior years' curriculum development stuff. There is a school in our area that introduced Ethics for the first year of primary(grade) school. They have a 0% bullying rate(0%!!!).

good luck and don't let the parents get you down

If you teach 10-12 year old, you will be probably dealing with the same folk as here, some gaming addicted online junkies. So your experience on this server pays off!
