Its actually 36/27/27 basic savings (I forgot I had boots +12 cons on, sorry). Its the old DD build where you dont care about AC and all, but rely on 18 or 21 dmg reduction. Mine had 7fig/8CoT/14DD, the extra 4 CoT in epic nets me +2 uni savings and 1 feat on the dispence of 3 extra dmg reduc, dunno if its wice. If the Fort savings are high enough and the two other too low still I could maybe forget Luck of all heroes, will, fort and reflex save pre-epic I guess. It could be very hard leveling up I guess,,running around with AC 11-13 at lvl 18 and only 3 or 6 dmg reduction..

You wear AC gear until the DR matures. The way the maths of it works out is that every scrap of DR past the 20/- mark becomes precious. If the critters are hitting for 25 damage, then the difference between 3/- and 6/- is pretty trivial, but the difference between 23/- and 26/- is between 'very tough character' and 'godmode'.
That's PvM, mind. In PvP, damage reduction is not a major player at the minute.

Any other bow advice welcome If your dex is higher than your wisdom, Zen Archery is useless. I would take Point Blank, Rapid Shot, Weapon Focus, Improved Critical...and if you have room, then Called Shot.

Building around the assassin class.. yes, I know it's slighty screwy right now and the class will at some point change, but it'll be an RP character as much as anything for now.
What's the best route to go for? some kind of Rogue/Fighter/Assassin 5/5/20 (or thereabouts..) ..or maybe Ranger/Rogue/Assasin? egh. Or worse, sacrifice something somewhere to try to fit SD in there.
I'll need high INT, which will make balancing stats interesting.
As well, I figure he'll dual-wield. Daggers or shortswords? Daggers definately have a style edge.
Finally, is it worth it to take the extra feat to make using a crossbow worthwhile as a backup option or should I just wimp out and carry a bow?
Edit: gurgh. And then is there any way to do this and still pull epic dodge out of it without nerfing my death attack DC?

Rogue5/Fighter6/Assassin19. Epic Dodge version with as much Assassin as possible is Rogue13/Assassin17.
Grab daggers if you're going with a small-sized character, shortswords are better elsewise.

The alrounder for the assassin is
13 Rogue 1 Ranger 16 Assassin with your Ranger coming in very late for your discipline dump and Epic Weapon Focus.

I'm not sure how those two builds are supposed to fight. You get 1 Death Attack attempt per spawn in PvM, if your party is actually waiting for you to sneak ahead. Death Attack is blocked by Freedom, so it's a gamble to use in PvP anytime. It's also blocked from being in combat, so unless you're the very first to start the PvP fight, that option is out. Boosting INT is a pidgeon-hole in a high-level, high-magic setting.
If you're planning to KD + Sneak Damage, Rogue will rack you more skill points and versatility for a third class. You miss out on the mediocre Assassin spells (all of which are easily dispelled at caster level 20 - the maximum an assassin can get); the only advantage to Assassin here is those poisons, and how many levels of it you need for the good stuff is yet unknown to players.

I'm hoping that the assassin class changes, when they come in, will help make it more useful overall and a viable build and retroactively justify my faith investment in it.

I don't speak in code.
It wont be as good in PvP as a 24 Rogue 5 Fighter 1 Ranger or something similiar but it will be better in solo and party PvM with its class spells etc.

Crosspost from the Necromancer thread:
So. I've never built a wizard character before, be it PnP or in some other game. The closest I've come is my Cleric on Amia. Also, I've been toying with the idea of making a Necro-based caster, to keep this on topic. Of course, then, I am at a disadvantage for how to pick the 'right' things for one.
1) Spell Penetration vs Spell Focus = I'm assuming SP is better since it applies to all spells? Not sure.
2) Spell Focus = In general, does SF help you in regards to non-offensive spells? I know it grants +2, but that doesn't matter if you are trying to cast Bull Strength on someone, right?
3) Spell Focus: Necro = I assume that is really worth it, eh?
4) I was toying with the idea of Spell Focus: Necro & Transmutation & Conjuration, as they seem to contain the most spells I will use. But, this relates to my second question: Does the +2 help in any way with spells you cast on yourself and party members?
I'm sure there is more, but these are the most pressing ones I can think of. Any general help with a build would be good, too, as I'm nto sure if I want to dabble in Pale Master at all, even.
Thanks!

Spell Focus only works for offensive spells. If you take Spell Focus in Transmutation, that means that only Flesh to Stone is affected.
Spell Focus for a mage is far and away more valuable than spell penetration. But you'll want to take Greater Spell Focus and even Epic Spell Focus.

Ohh I see. I was definitely misreading things. If a creature doesn't have SR, then Spell Penetration won't matter. So, yeah, I can see how +2 DC for the save on all spells of a certain school is much better than +2 vs SR.
Any pointers on the other things? Also, I was wondering if Combat Casting is worth it, or if I should just do Skill Focus: Concentration instead. I figure, and have heard/read, that the +3 to ALL Concentration checks is better than the +4 in combat only.

Add some gear with +5 concentration via an item if you 'really' want it.
Spell penetration's value depends on your caster level. Higher the CL, the less you need it.
Wiki: "The roll to beat spell resistance is
* Caster level + 1d20 + spell penetration modifier. "

combat casting if I am reading the descript right, is only active in defensive casting mode. improved combat casting though is better and such...
however epic spell penetration, and metamagics, are two much better feat paths imho.
specifically auto quicken if you can build it right to get all three -and- epic spells.

*nods* Thanks for the advice. I ended up making my wizard yesterday, and gave him Skill Focus: Concentration. I figure it will be a good addition, and it falls in line with the loose background I have already (ie very focused and such in regards to magic, makes him seem more intent when casting, RPwise). Also snagged Spell Focus: Evocation.
Though, of course, I'm running into an issue of what feat to take at level 3 XD I was considering Empower Spell or Extend Spell, I've just never used them (obviously, given my past characters) but I get what they do. I do like the idea of Empower, as it will aid in the fact that I am trying to lean him towards more fire-based spells at the moment (part of his background and hence the Focus on Evo spells).
Dunno, just wondering if he's gonna work out right. But, then, that's what first xxxxx characters are for lol

metamagics are fairly self explanitory, and being an arcane caster means still spell is a winner since armour screws with your rolls. thats another way to do a wizard, get all three auto still spells eventually, and then use full plate XD.
personally I would have not taken two focuses, and waited for greater and epic focus, and saved a feat for...spell penetration for the epic spell penetration path aswell...but thats just me, i've seen plenty of sorcorer builds with two focuses.
there is alot you can do with wizards and its not always so simple like the above examples, the easiest way to deal with that is spam spellcraft/concentration and pick your feats carefully and beforehand.
also in that case i'd say extend spell, because if I remember extend is +1 level, and empower is 2/3? only get them all if your going to use them, and still/silent/quicken are overall imho more useful because it allows auto metamagic later on, unless you want to not do that and get 3/4 epic spells. both are awesome choices but auto quicken is the bomb.

Mew? Better off empower imo, max IGMS take up 9th circle spells, and you can still buff up those stats to silly-highs. ..or just get both and relish the extra set of spells. -unless your a cleric, then you need maximize.

The reliability of the +5 ability buff from Maximise sells that feat all by itself. The fact it's good offensively is just gravy.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a Goblin Wizard? I already have one wizard who has a focus in Evocation and Abjuration, though I want to try something different. Perhaps a Sorcerer, what is the pros and cons between Sorc and Wizi? Please, any suggestions would be nice. Something that would be fun to build and play.

Sorcerers don't need to bother with sorting out their spellbooks all the time, but don't get all the spells, only the actually useful ones.
They're not so much different buildwise. Just grab Extend, Max, Empower, Silent and the Foci.

If you're going Wiz, you'd rather Max over Empower, though both, if you can manage it. Empower is a gamble, and as a wiz, you have a set number of a spell once you rest. You want to get a definite amount out of each, thus Max pays off better for you.
I would however say Still is better than Silent. Both are pretty much used so you can double up on castings, but at least with Still, if you ever happened to get feats for armor or shield, it would actually be useful.

They're all absolutely worth it, yes. Especially as a Sorc it gives quite a lot of freedom in your casting. http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Still_spellhttp://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Silent_spellFor a plain caster dude without any great goals for über AC, Silent is better. Would actually rather go Silent even if I wore mail or plate; there are those 0% ASF things.

Hi, first time requesting some of your priceless help on a build, normally I am capable enough of coming up with my slightly ridiculous but unique builds by myself, however I am having trouble with my latest idea as I am concerned if the Spell DC on its primary spells will be high enough to be worthwhile since I don't wish to have to get to 30 and find out it was a lost cause. Basically here's what I'm after:
- Gnome - Wizard 22, 2 Bard, 6 Shadow Dancer - Spell focuses in Enchantment and Necromancy.
Now I thought I had the build nailed but I figured I would double check the shadow dancer changes on here first, and surprise... I forgot about the 6 shadow dancer requirement for HIPS, so now, my original build of 26 Wizard 2 Shadow Dancer 2 Bard is sort of out the window as I can't work out where I should be putting the additional 4 Shadow Dancer levels, here's the run down of what I had in mind originally (Very sorry if I was not meant to do this, please shout at me ASAP if I need to remove this or Moderators do so at will, thanks):
Str. 14 Dex. 14 Con. 14 Int. 16 Wis. 10 Cha. 8
1 Wizard - Feats 2 Wizard 3 Wizard - Feat 4 Wizard 5 Wizard - Feat 6 Wizard - Feat 7 Bard 8 Shadow Dancer 9 Wizard - Feat 10 Wizard 11 Wizard 12 Wizard - Feats 13 Wizard 14 Wizard 15 Wizard - Feat 16 Wizard 17 Shadow Dancer 18 Wizard - Feat 19 Wizard - Feat 20 Wizard 21 Wizard - Feat 22 Wizard 23 Wizard - Feat 24 Wizard - Feat 25 Wizard 26 Wizard - Feat 27 Bard - Feat 28 Wizard 29 Wizard 30 Wizard - Feat
I am basically worried about the inevitable loss in spell DC by losing 4 wizard levels, Wail of the Banshee came out with a DC of 40 with capped Int items at level 30, and before you ask, I'm not a power gamer but since I won't be using epic spells, having a DC high enough to compete at end game will be needed. So for those that have level 30 caster experience and would say that a DC of 36 or lower across the board (reflex/will/fort) will be high enough to meet ends meat, then please, any advice you have will be much appreciated. I am also aware of the possibility of increasing the starting Int to 18 by dropping strength and con if needed, so consider that too if you offer changes.
I am open to your questions and your build suggestions, please feel free to PM me too.
PS: If I absolutely have to scrap the Shadow Dancer levels for the sake of spell DC, any rogue or bard variations to utilise stealth will be welcome.
Thanks, Nauxia.

I was considering Still Spell, but all the metamagic feats make me iffy cause it makes the spells take up higher spell slots and you have to put it on certain spells. Which isn't a big deal if you have a level or two of spells that you don't need, at later caster levels.
I dunno, still gotta see how it all goes

Well, the bard levels are superfluous at best and downright pointless in most cases. A wizard should get enough skill points to build a house, so there is no need to take a hide/ms class to meet the requirements for SD The danger with these builds is that you'll most likely be a sub-par caster who can be dispelled by the pure casters and a sub-par hider who can probably be seen by people with only a few points in Spot and the right gear on. I'd recommend a Wizard/Rogue or Wizard/Ranger cornersneak type, personally.

Also - anyone know what the prerequisites are for the Monkey Grip widget?

I don't know if there are any prerequisites except the RP to support the request and the DC's to pay for the widget. But I'm just a player, a DM would know definitively.

...another quick, inane question: Paladin: Everything else taken care of.. Do I want Concentration, Spot, or Taunt?

From experience with my favorite character, I would go 20 Monk/10Rogue. Great build, IMO. DEX based, even better. Uber AC. As soon as my monk gets top-end gear, I should be hitting 70 AC hasted.

Well, my monk is on hold atm. Other players didnt like to hunt with her, she didnt damage enough and the monsters didnt went after her since her AC is so high, I ended up rezzing a lot of others. The final stroke for her came when she was asked to leave a full party cause another player (more powerfull?) wanted in, so I'm not playing her atm.

Well, its wasnt, but lets focus on the builds instead. And heres a question for a new gal:
On a 6-attack-round devcritter (fighter/CoT/Rogue) which is better: AB: 48 +1dmg or AB:47 +4 will and reflex saves (saves will be around f:39,r:26,w:22 without the ekstra +4) Its basically a question of 2xepic STR or epic will and reflex saves..

Of course it loses in spellpower to people with more casterlevels, but it's totally hip and hot and sexy and all. Go for it! Zifon: I'd go for x2 Epic STR, personally. I'm, however, quite certain you haven't picked any cuddly ESF (Skill)'s yet.

Well, the only skills I can afford to concentrete on is: Discipline, Spot, Tumble and 20 in UMD (hopeful thats enough). I always tend to rate feats like: Armor skin, epic prowness, the epic weapon focusses, epic STR higher than: ESF something or the 3 x epic saving throughs, maybe thats stupid dunno..

ESF is utterly awesome, because it lifts the cap you have for skills. So, if you had Spot 90 and that'd be the max you got, it could be bumped up to 100 with the ESF Spot. It is useful.
Go ESF Spot, go ESF Discipline, it will make the making of your gearset(s) even easier.
