I think the gold loss should also increase above 10% if you don't have enough XP to take away.

When you're making a comment out of the blue, it's really helpful to put it in the right context. Otherwise, the rest of us are like 'huh? wha?'

um, your saying about nerfing peoples gold upon respawn with no 40k maximum, but killing monsters isn't the only way about it so provided you don't die, or store your gold in the bank (still haven't tried that) your still not going to get people losing their 10% of whatever millions they have unless they -are- farming for gold/loot to sell/mythals to sell for cash, etc.
Like I said, killing things isn't the only way to earn vast sums.

So what? Eventually they will run out of stuff to sell and have to go back to find more, and then they can die. It does not concern me if the penalty hits them later rather than sooner.

To give you an idea of how much killing things beats anything for making money..... in the past four to five hours I have amassed sixty thousand GP, on my lonesome, in one of the simplest dungeons in Amia, with just a level 10 character, at very little expense.
Of course, it's tedious. But when you don't feel like partying, and you have plenty of time on your hands, what's stopping you?

While I personally favour less obvious methods of removing gold (eg. taxation), a big stick is easier to understand. 10% uncapped gold loss on respawn (20% if max ECL because xp loss is meaningless) 25% loss of xp above the minimum for the current level on respawn automatic respawn if dead on reset or login If the server crashes while you're waiting for your buddy to raise you, too bad. Excrement occurs. I don't like the change in percentages at all - if trying to fix the economy, removing xp won't help at all, and an entire fifth of your gold is quite steep.

What's the average gold / life on the server? Multiplying that by five will give you the average maximum gold (at equilibrium) if the 20% rule is applied. It just sits uncomfortably with me to remove so much. A tenth, maybe fifteen percent, sounds reasonable, and if it is simply the cap that is removed it won't hurt lowbies at all, who do a large amount of dying at low levels, and only hurts those post - 400 000. Raising it to 20% not only hurts lowbies twice as much, it also hurts them sooner as they get over 200k.

Or, don't hoard lots of gold. Spend it on something that might help you out and avoid having to respawn. Those handy random items with castings of useful escape spells, hoard those, and you will be one more step ahead of death.

the point is not to just screw over people who wanted to do more then sit around cordor or some other area and treat Amia based off DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS as second life, sims or some RP chat room
its not the players fault they wanted to fight monsters and others did not, or that you find some random spear on the ground that sells for 40k that you dont want or need so they sold it to a NPC who will not cap out the price who also has unlimted gold.
removing peoples gold wont fix anything if you dont stop it from coming in, they will just get it back over time and the prices might drop abit but poor people are poor for a reason, people who have no gold now is because they dont IC do anything be it Job system,Hunting or crafting to get gold.

The last thing you want is to stop it coming in. You want it to go out at the same rate it's coming in once you've attained the equilibrium you want, going out faster if there's more gold than equilibrium and coming in faster if there's less.

Which is what I just said. Let us take the desired equilibrium gold equal to e, the current gold g, the inflow I and the outflow O
If g > e I < O
If g = e I = O
If g < e I > O
I think 10% uncapped with forced-respawn at reset is the way to go - that way the equilibrium gold will settle at ten times what the average player can make in one life.
Stopping inflow means lowbies start with 1000 gold and never earn more, only lose it to expenses. You do not want to stop inflow, just want it less than the outflow.

honestly if you stop gold coming in before you find a way to reduce the built up gold of exiting characters all you do is create a very strong divider between players. You have those who hoarded before the change, these people hold all the monetary power in the world, and those who came in after and can never hope to compete.
You can't even wipe peoples accounts to 0 gold as if there isn't advanced warning given you have a huge number of players rage quitting and if you do give warning then everyone just empties their gold reserves into heal pots (which incidentally would probably become the defacto currency in any system where gold was penalised too harshly making it unappealing to carry it around)
The only way to fix the economy is to hard wipe every item and gold piece from every character on the server, but to do this would be to kill the server.

Alright, here's something crazy for you:
1. End the use of raising scrolls, spells and items in the entry way.
2. Change the respawn risks: 2.1 70% chance of 50-100% loss of gold upon respawn. 2.2 70% chance of losing up to 20 items in your inventory upon respawn. 2.2.1 Roll a 20 sided die to determine how many items you loose. Items lost are random; could be potions, could be scrolls, or could be your weapon or armor.
Some other things that might work:
1. Implement a cost of living charge per week or month for factions with faction areas.
2. Implement a cost of living charge per week or month for every single PC; food, drink, tax, etc.
Read and weep!

so what if there is a strong divider of the gold from the rich people now, and new people if the lower incoming gold, epic loot is traded for epic loot and gold has no value other then to chug heal potions and they could removed all the gold from all players but in the end gold is just potion money for the NPCs. the DMs know who the real rich people are if they wanted a IC way to make them part with thier gold IC they could do it and them not be mad about it OOC if they cared that much.

grandfathering is a terrible, terrible idea in any game for any reason. yes and as you pointed out they need the gold they traded thier epic loot for to buy potions meaning the gold goes away, so over time the rich guy loses his gold but I dont think they would kill the gold coming in so much people cant buy potions and have some left over gold.

Bleed out the gold by inconspicuously taking 10% of a character's gold every time he or she logs in after a reset. There's so much yellow text there it'd go almost completely unnoticed.

I needed the detail, because apparently my wording wasn't specific enough previously. On a different note, what is the average income / life? We can't decide whether gold income needs to be decreased if we don't know this ... if, for example, it's 200k, uncapping the 10% will mean the average gold will settle at two million. If, however, it's ten million, we need to decrease the income to prevent equilibrium occurring at one hundred million. I would say the biggest problem is the divide between rich and poor, but the statistics haven't been made available.

You can have "needed items", mainly heal pots and the like, scale up in cost as one gains levels. At level 10 a heal pot will cost 5,000 gp. At level 15 it will cost 10,000 gp a heal pot. Level 20, 15,000 gp a pot.
The numbers are completely random and are only used for sake of an example.
I also agree with the removal of gold cap on respawn, increase the gp penalty percentage to at least 15%, and force respawn after a reset.

I don't really see any solution to this 'problem'. I hardly see a problem to begin with.
All the proposed solutions are worse than the 'problem'.
Epic Characters will pay more and more gold for epic items......so what? A L30 character allready probably has the best non-epic gear one can have anyways. Characters who rp instead of grind bosses get a higher chance at getting DCs. DCs can be just as valuable as epic loot.
How about implimenting that super-epic boss idea and have a 'doorman' at the enterance to that area who requires a million gold to enter from every party member. A mega-boss would also drain resources from characters. Gold will go down, and just as much epic loot would be available (100% drop that requires at least a full party)....and less-powerful builds would have a chance at epic loot if all they need to do is raise any dead party member while fighting.

If I can make sixty thousand GP with an average character in a low dungeon in five hours, then it's not a question of whether you can keep up with the rich characters, it's when is your character going to become one. It's all about how much time you have and whether you have a (mostly) winning formula right now.
For example, the dead guys in Darkhold don't stand a chance against a dual-wielding character with two Greater Maces of Disruption. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out that well after they've stopped being worthwhile to advance in terms of levels, they're still good for a quick run through to replenish your GP reserve.
And therein lies the problem. If all these dungeons are repeatable, then you can eventually net far more GP than you actually need. Way more than you need. Ridiculously more than you need.
Being free to kill things wherever they like, whenever they like, and as many times as they like - so long as they don't overtake someone who's already killing things - has led players of Amia to amass a vast cache of wealth that isn't necessary except to vastly inflate the prices of things.
Either you limit the players freedom to repeat those dungeons, or you limit how much wealth in items and gold they can gain (total and/or per day). Or, you just leave it as it is and hope someone doesn't dredge it up another three months.

This is the same problem that plagues Diablo 2 when playing online. Gold is worthless? Why? Becuase you can kill a monster and find it on it's corpse.
Imagine for a second that you were driving along and you ran over a squirrel or some bullcrap and suddenly found 5$ laying under it's dead corpse. Suddenly, it has become a worldwide pandemic that animals living in certain nations drop a certain amount of currency to whatever nation they live near, they also never die permanently, so there is no mass extinction. If that happened it be disastrous! Money would become worthless becuase it literally appears from thin air, just like gold on Amia.
To keep gold from coming in, you need to have monsters strop dropping gold. Why the hell does a swamp dog need gold? I've never seen it in the market square, and it will never go there becuase it lives in a swamp.
The world has a fixed currency, you can't just print money and throw it into the economy because it causes inflation. Make the job system the only way to make money, and cap it to emulate real jobs to earn X amount of gold per reset doing a job. Have NPCs pay people for doing their jobs, and in turn, those people spend their money and it goes right back into the hands of the "Employer NPCs". I've addressed the problem that makes gold worthless, but I don't know how to fix it.

I like the idea of a wider NPC buy cap. It won't stop people from raking in GP, but the ridiculous end of loot-selling will be shut down. It will make it more attractive to barter with other PCs.
Obviously, this doesn't do anything to make it easier for newer people to catch up, except at the very beginning when every item is worth less than the buy cap anyway. But it won't make it impossible to make ends meet either.

The part you quoted wasn't regarding dying in a party, it was referring to letting people wait until reset, and then be raised sans-penalty in the entryway. Losing three hours is nothing compared to millions of gold. NinjaClarinet wrote: I bet you say the same thing about being level 30 too. Huzzah entitlement. That's unfair - he has a reasonable point. You'd be creating a very tiered system if some people can get a maximum of 100k gold, others 100 million just because of their join date.

Actually, he seems to be saying quite the opposite - that such a tiered system is only fair.
