Does anyone know of an override that would turn on or replace the regular water appearance with the "shiny water" appearance? On my laptop it won't allow me to manually turn on shiny water and I'm told it's because of my graphics card. Somehow I suspect though that if there were an override for it, I could still play at a decent speed.

Download this and unzip to override.

It's basically a recolour of the Baldur's UI examine panel, so that it's a little less orangey.

Anyone who manages to tell me what I need to remove to revert the desert and castle exterior (wiltun) tileset back to default without getting rid of the rest of my overrides will get a big reward.

Use the uninstaller...thats [cfgnwncq].bat

Open it up, type in the corresponding option to uninstall the city tileset. That may do it.
As for the desert, try uninstalling the landscapes via the same method.

Should be in your overrides folder.

However, it may be some place else. Depends how you extracted it. If you followed the instructions, it should all be in the override folder.

Worked perfectly for the rural city exterior, but the desert one is not on the list and the sea caves do not affect it like you suggested via msn. Any other idea how to get rid of the desert one?

Just tried the CQ override that Selvek mentioned. It's not bad, but as far as the rural bit goes, it makes NWN look like it's moved to New Zealand. ;)

Use Alt Enter and switch between windows that way. However, be warned it still sometimes crashes. Fidgety little thing.

I actually have a fixed version of the weapon elemental graphic update pack on my home computer. I'll see about uploading it some place. Came with a module.

have you tried just running it in Windowed mode?

open the nwn.ini in something like notepad and under the [Display Options] heading make sure that you see this:
Code:
AllowWindowedMode=1

it might already be there but set to 0 (or off), or not there at all in which you need to have it typed exactly as you see it here. I have a sweet video card and NWN still hates alt tabbing which is why I find it just easier to run it windowed mode. no problems at all.

note: you might also want to lower the display resolution while in windowed mode. my normal is 1920x1080 but I run it at 1600x900.

You want to override sdr_blackout.wav with a one-second silent WAV file. That should do it.

Or you can alter the visualeffects.2da file and put that in the override, replacing sdr_blackout with **** to stop the use of that sound file.

you forgots the other line

FullScreen=0
AllowWindowedMode=1

and optionally

Disable Intro Movies=1

in the [Display Options] section of the nwn.ini file. have to agree with dead though its buggy if anything, and small. fullscreen is better for immersion too.

Also remember once you have enabled the window mode of NWN you can switch between the two at will by pressing Alt + Enter, I believe.

Yep that is correct. Then you can go an get some windows app or change your window settings to make sure your NWN is always on top of other Windows so you can always see whats going on. ;)

Anyone else having a problem with windowed mode and Windows 7 64 bit? Or even Alt+Tabbing and Windows 7 64 bit?

When I Alt+Tab, my screen flashes. When I click NWN to bring it back up, my screen flashes NWN then black three times and then the program is up.
When I Alt+Enter and then maximize, I do not have the NWN pointer I have the windows one and if I click, it brings me back to Windows. I have to click NWN again to bring it back.

I know I had to set the NWN Start Menu item to 'Run this program as an administrator' to get NWN to even load. Think that was the only change. I had the screen flashy thing after Alt+Tab before making any .ini changes, too.

Very, very odd. Never seen anything like it. It's not a big deal, just irritating sometimes.

No problems with windowed mode for me. Except at the very start - if I alt-tab, and then come back, I won't be able to click anything, but if I do it again everything will run just fine.

not sure where to put this, not exactly an overide but i'm working on that (trying to make one.)

does anyone know more specifically about the music files and what type of mp3 encoding they use? I have tried everything I can think of and I can't get anything to play in the toolset. default nwn stuff plays in winamp no problem, without converting filenames, as do mp3's changed to bmu files.

If I can get that much working I hope to spend some time figuring out how to do the same without replacing the proper music files each time, thus enabling optional music.

ed: google goes on about changing bmu to mp3 but not vise versa unfortunatly. and biowares 'tutorial' is...terrible.

When this happens and the NWN Screen is back up but you have no pointer, hit the Alt key just once and it should bring you back to having the correct mode for the on screen display :)

managed to get it working, but overiding the music files alone does nothing.

requires two converters and a source mp3, which could range from your own songs made with fruity loops or something, or mp3's in general, for your own use...

BMUtoMP3 v035, and CDex, download and install both, open CDex, press f12, find your mp3 and convert to wav, then open up the settings (f4) and in the encoder tab you want the LAME encoder, MPEG 1, 128 kbps, sterio, normal or high quality, not sure what on the fly does...and VBR disabled to enable constant bit rate encoding. then convert back to mp3 (f11)

next manually rename to mus_castle.mp3, and open up the BMUtoMP3 converter and add the file to nwn. back up the original manually by making a copy first (!!!)

and I think, this should work with all the default music, and hopefully also doesn't break anything.

crude for an 'overide' but it worked.

ed: mus_ is the prefix for music, and mus_bat_ for battle music, you can open bmu's with winamp to hear which is which, and replace accordingly. again, back up the originals incase something failed and it defaults to silence.

My weapon graphic-effects are all jacked after loading a link from somewhere in this thread ages ago. I keep forgetting to bring it up...until now. Does anyone have a hak that fixes it? Or tell me how to go back to default? Basically it appears my 'acid' effect is appears 'electric', and my 'wounding' effect is HUGE white blocks...very goofy.

You can customise ambientmusic.2da and specify alternate tracks in place of the defaults. Useful if you have more than one override folder.

However, if a module or server uses a HAK file containing ambientmusic.2da, your one will get ignored. You can choose to either incorporate your 2DA into the HAK file locally, or remove the 2DA in the HAK file so that the override will work.

For those who like BG GUI..

BG2 GUI!

As BG2 GUI isn't really complete.. for example background for textbar and quickslots aren't there, but you can copy qb_but.tga, qb_but_bg.tga and pnl_chat_prompt.mdl from BG GUI into override so it looks much more complete now :D

And if you try to override BG GUI with BG2 GUI, it won't work.. as BG GUI has totally customized, non-nwn stantard files. So removing BG GUI first is recommended if you want to use BG2 GUI.

Oh. And if you don't like compass texture (personally I think it sucks), you can just delete gui_compass3.tga and you'll be fine.

Last time I used that override did the background of all windows turn to beige, the same color item descriptions are from the job system. I wonder if that could be changed?

BG2 GUI uses very dark brown texture for description window background. I really like it myself. That window background was biggest reasons why I didn't use BG GUI.

Some pics I uploaded

(1. Note the new X button. 2. qb_but.tga, qb_but_bg.tga and pnl_chat_prompt.mdl in override allows to have background for quickslots and chat panel, ie brown background behind Talk. 3. gui_compass3.tga has been removed also.)
