Was on Amia couple years ago. Just came back. Have noticed a definite upsurge in quality RP. In the past, there was a lot of OOC talk going on, using //'s in public speak. All that seems minimal now. People stay in character almost exclusively, which is admirable.

Post your favorite RP moments here. Could be the sacking of the Bane temple by a huge army. Could be a little moment, like someone trying to hold your hand. Could be something that made you laugh, like Tor peeing in the Cordor moat. Could be something that made you stop and think, wow, these people are good.

Details! We want details!

Already a thread for that here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8126

But it's a nice thought. :)

*shrug* Iunno. He(she?*) said favorite RP moment. Roleplay praise seems more like you just give praise for the moments as they come along, rather than things that happened in the past. I'll have a go at it anyway.

Beldor: A tie between a drow battle royal on the beach a good many years ago and he and the Serpent coming face to face with a Thayvian general.

Ardok: All the Bareknuckle Brawls that led to his perfect 11-0 record. ^^

To answer my own post and get things started... :)

Have really been enjoying RP with H_Rose whose elven character is named Paer, who my ogrillion character Tor Skullbiter calls Lil Pear. I play Tor as he is, big, strong, stoopid and ugly. But he's not evil. He's CN. Since having met Lil Pear he's been affected by her. He thinks of himself as an animal and often behaves like one (like scratching himself whenever and peeing wherever). Because of his low IQ he is usually lost, mispronounces things like Wart-Town and Benner Dale, has a poor memory even for places he's been, and is easily frightened by things he doesn't 'unnerstan' like magic.

Tor and Lil Pear joined forces initially for mutual survival, but their 'pairing' has grown into a unique friendship. Tor is impressed by Lil Pear's use of magic. While he thinks of himself as fat, stoopid and ugly, he admires and is entranced by her intelligence and charisma. All of which makes him defend her fiercely. Anyone trying to hurt her, gets 'splattered.' Too, it amazes him that she, unlike most 'wimans' he meets, did not go running in fear and horror the first time he removed his helmet. That she doesn't find him fat, stoopid and ugly, is a mystery to Tor, and binds him all the more closely to her. In a wonderful way, it feels like we are RPing our own version of 'Beauty & the Beast.'

During one of our adventures we came upon a path in a cave blocked by a lake and Tor commented that ogrillions can't swim, and admitted they are afraid of the water. Lil Pear took that comment, and when we next met, she took him to Sandy Beach and introuced him to the ocean. It was a great deal of fun, just RPing things like taking off his boots and sticking his feet in the sand for the first time. Totally enjoyed Lil Pear trying to coax this big, nervous 7' tall gorilla into knee deep water and then getting him to sit in the water. That she would even think to RP such a thing, was extremely cool and fun.

The next time we met, Lil Pear presented Big Tor with a pair of bathing trunks she'd made for him. The fun is in the RP.

Thanks. Have seen that thread. People give kudos to other people for their RP there. But people really don't get into the details.

Use this thread to say 'why' you enjoyed the RP and tell a little more about 'what' actually happened. What was it specifically that you did that made it praiseworthy and fun?

Am hoping this thread takes that thread to the next level. If people are willing to help share the details of what they consider good RP, it may
help noobs by giving them ideas on how to enhance their own RP.

Hah, sweet. I remember my favorite RP on Amia. My Arcane Archer, Serion, was followed and tailed by a group of Cyricists for about a week claiming him to be the Chosen One.

All the troubles he went through to escape... Eventually they tried to kill the shark by draining the ocean. Remove that which Serion loved, and he would reveal himself. In an effort to save his friends, Serion brought them to safety and met the Cyricists in battle. After the long struggle, he was captured and taken to the coast of Uhm, where he was chained to a rock on the shore and tortured. Serion's left eye was gouged out by an armor piercing dagger- and so the story of Serion 'Cyclops' truly began.

Usually, for my characters, I come up with a story beforehand. It'll be moving, yada yada, whatever. But this was played out, for weeks on end. There was both the drama of leaving a life behind, the endangering of dearest friends; and the arrow-after-arrow intense action that every adventurer dreams of. Every day I got on to play my heart was pounding- and I attribute it to all those Cyricists and elven pals. I'd romanticize this story more, but you'd have to seek Serion out and pry it out of him yerself. ;)

Fantine, every time I see your name I get the song Fantine's Death from Les Miserables stuck in my head :P

At any rate, perhaps the best RP I've ever had on Amia was when Jhaelryna captured Bella'donna, and proceeded to break the poor halfling into a pet. It was great fun, and a pity that it had to be terminated prematurely.

RP in old old cordor with random hellballs could be fun somtimes. I particularly enjoyed RP with Llewelyn Forest immensely, if I can remember his name properly, on my old Svirfneblin character - 4 or 5 years ago now, I believe, and also RP with Shan in our little crime duo.

I'd have to say my favorite RP was back during the Cordor revolution. Nobody seemed to know quite what was going on or who was in charge, and I was but a lowly level 7 exploiting the hell out of it. Flaggers, politics, and a younger more naive Richard Johnson who was still allowed in the city. Gotta love it.

In wanting to decorate the new lair, Vrok and Richard Johnson came across a really nice rug in the bugbear caverns. This led to several minutes worth of them trying to fold this rug neatly so as to carry it along. They ended up failing miserably. If I recall correctly, they ended up just stuffing it into a bag of holding with brute force.

Honestly, it's day to day on whether BLACK does the job well, or just fails miserably.
Either way, it's always hilarious and fun. Thanks all.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that, and yes that pretty much sums up BLACK in it's entirety.

Mariha Feral
- visiting the minotaurs during the Horde War
- breaking up with her gnomish lover and the reason why and all that came out of that in terms of character development
- trying to free Jaqueline Fend from Alicera Ve'heer's influence
- the alienation that developed between her and Alitha & Theos Gend and the possibility that she might have been put on trial by Theos for heresy (which unfortunately never panned out)
- the death of her daughter and herself in childbirth and playing an uneasy spirit afterward

Xaviera
- being stalked and tortured by Ana'Rahma Fuma'Vhid over several months RL and the impact it had on her entire character development
- at least two attempts by different people to manipulate Xavi into becoming evil, one of which might have succeeded had it continued
- all the amazing RP with her now-deceased wife Lina
- the destruction of Cordor
- the High Moon Hunt where about 20 people ran naked through Cordor one night, boarded a ship to Brog and there proceeded to attack Icingdeath
- several breakups with lovers due to her inability to be monogamous
- trying to turn Frey away from evil (which obviously failed miserably)
- Yoss's time travel plot
- having knowledge that could potentially affect the future of an entire race and not being able to tell anyone 8)

For me, it's rarely about specific events, but more about the emotional intensity of the RP generated by a story arc. Misunderstandings between two people are great for this. Mind you, unique events such as having an entire city destroyed around you or seeing your own dark future and feeling unable to change it are pretty damn scary. Oh, and being potentially personally responsible for the destruction of the entire universe tends to weigh heavily on one as well. Fortunately for everybody, she dodged that one.

I really enjoy RP where the character takes over and, despite knowing where I would like the story to go, it just refuses to go that way, and not by mutual decision or DM fiat but just because it can't go any other way (if that makes any sense?).

Good times, brother. I really wish I could remember who the third was... Some mage I think who used Shapechange into an Iron Golem to punchify the undeadites. And so we sat in the Dread Basement, telling spooky stories around a campfire. S'mores may or may not have been involved. And inevitably someone would misclick, run across the room, and accidentally spawn the boss and his minions again, who would all have to be subdued with our ham-fisted tactics.

Dang that makes me feel old.

Back Caravan RP with Calin, the War Knights, Ron, Ramika and Koragi. One of the better RP's.

Oh and a few years back with Xal and Lila. Back when I wasn't so damned jaded by life.

Also on my personal list: The Dark Flight Lays Siege To Kohlingen.

On the west side, dozens of adventurers representing factions from all come together in a moment of solidarity to do vicious battle with the forces of evil. On the east side, protecting the way into Kohlingen Keep... Four dwarves. Four stout dwarves, takin' names, dragon ass.

Oh oh! Wait! That one time with Hunus back in the days, where he got eaten by a beblith and came out the creatures ass.

I got a DC for making the DM fall off their chair laughing.

Oh, and the defence of Cordor against the horde where he helped hold the gate. Dm spawned some bugbear who made a massive speech, was about to attack him, and the other 5 adventurers with him at the time lept ahead and killed the creature before it even got to finish it's speech.

I miss Hunus.

Mirhun Thinker? He used to do the iron golem thing. I remember him RPing with Mariha how he had just created the metal suit (or learned the spell, I can't recall which). I think he made the golems for the Eili shrine as well after Jud, Xavi and a few others liberated the plans from the fortress on top of the Skull Crags.

That's a classic. Think i would have fallen off my chair too.

Lots of great stories here! Thank you all for sharing. Keep them coming!

Someone mentioned creating a back story for your character before you start to play. That's a wise idea. That way you have some sense of who your character is and why they behave the way they do.

Here's a silly thing I do with Tor...

A lot of orc caves and undead sites have all sorts of gory totems with dead bodies on spikes or heads spitted on a pole. Tor will go up to them and say, "Hullo Grok!" He'll claim that he recognizes one of the heads as his uncle or someone from the Skullbiter tribe that obviously fell fighting the Blood Moons or whomever. Heh.

I remember one time while I was playing my half-orc Bort, I was just passing by the Temple in Cordor East when a child character, a little girl thought it was a good idea to call Bort "a fat, stupid pig-face" just becuse he "accidentily" bumped into a few people while walking in the street. So Bort took the little girl behind the Temple and cracked her neck, twisting it slowly untill her head fell off. Of course, someone noticed this and Bort was put in jail.

But it was totally worth it.

I have two that are forever engraved in my memory (sorry if they will make people change their viewpoint about him >_>;;) :

The plot cosmic made about some cursed crystal shards. Valki got one and knew it was evil, and then Torin, who back then was still her friend, got one too and she tried to convince him to give it back because it was very dangerous.

I do not remember what happened and who exactly was involved, but Torin was persecuted and attacked by some people I do not remember in order to recover the crystal and Torin went after her to ask about it. Valki was a defender back then and I remember she telling him it was a small sacrifice for a greater cause, that she was sorry by what happened to Torin.

Torin went straight to the Justicar to deliever a formal complaint about Valki.

Another one with Torin, was during that plot by Neus, as Ais. Valki, togethe with Raziel, were able to meet Ais past (I do not remember, again, exactly what happened, but Raziel and Valki were at the plane of Elysium, where they found out about Ais past as good and were decided to turn him back to the "Light Side"). Based on that, there was an event where a big part of the island was against Ais, wanting to kill him. Valki kept true to her beliefs (a common motto of hers) and went against a lot of friends trying to protect Ais, to convince them to give him a chance.

Back then, Torin was among her best friends and he was the first of her best friends to turn his back on Valki because she was choosing to aid a very evil guy, murderer of children and stuff.

Remember those ones, Tormie?

EDIT: He was still not a DM back then. :P

Had something funny happen the other night. Tor and Lil Pear are in a tavern. Not knowing what it was, Tor gives her a polymorph potion which she drinks and turns into a cow. Tor freaks out. Thinks he has turned his 'bes frien' into a cow. "Tor no wanna lib wit cow!"

When Paer doesn't change back, and just stands there moo'ing, at first he's upset that he believes he's cursed her forever into being a cow. Then he gets the bright idea that since she is now a cow, he mind as well milk her and give the milk to her kitty Seth. He pulls up a stool and a bucket besides her, spits on his hands and is ready to start milking the cow - when she runs off.

Can only imagine what H_Rose must have been thinking. This sucker's gonna try to milk my character!

The potion wore off, and that was that, but it was worth a few laughs.

heh I had a similar experience with the cow form, and it was rather funny "moo!, "yes this is my cow, come on now mr. moocow" " and then dispell and "how often do you see cows walking around?" which imho is metagaming because FARMERS ... but it was rather funny and I don't mind a clever wizard thwarting my experiments :) also on that note I have seen a knight who uses animals in combat so yea they do walk around XD war cow for the win! also dual welt trout....you heard me...

I loved Tor's RP aswell bro, "me shash for hundered shiny stones" =) and I don't think i've seen people spit before RPly, i've seen a halfling tear meat from the bone and display some foul eating habits but never *spits -place-*

I also think our 4 way dual on B was freaking awesome. there needs to be more of that :)

Page 11.

I am entirely uninvolved in that and play rarely enough that I have yet to see the fallout and changes in the character In Game, but Ianthe was amazing in this. With a few short posts throughout the page 11 of that thread, a harsh shift in the character was made; powerful and intense, and teetering on the simplest thing, an acceptable or refusal (or neglect) from the other character. And just like that...

I very much enjoyed (and look forward to more) reading the posts and getting that taste of the character - her thoughts, her emotions, her reactions. It was almost rending to see the way it progressed.

I loved Tor's RP aswell bro, "me shash for hundered shiny stones" =) and I don't think i've seen people spit before RPly, i've seen a halfling tear meat from the bone and display some foul eating habits but never *spits -place-*

That's part of Tor's RP. When Lil Pear is not around, he hires out as a mercenary. 'Onlee hundred shiney stones. Tor cheap.' I figure if it's a low amount people will be more apt to RP with me and hire him on. Makes for a way to find a party.

Tor spits a lot. Whenever he crosses over bridges, like the ones in Cordor, he has an irresistable urge to spit into the moat. The same with any high place. He usually spit over the edge. He used to have a habit of peeing anywhere, including the Cordor moat. Lil Pear has pretty much broken him of that habit, starting with when they were in the baths outside Cordor and he peed in tub. 'Big Tor warm up water.' ;-p

Having Flur become possessed by the "Darkness" and have it possess almost a dozen other paladins and clerics in the jail cell of the tower, causing them to kill each other in a maddened rage until the Darkness was killed in the depths of the ocean.

I wish I could remember the name of either the player or character.. But some time ago a fantastically amusing encounter near the Orc caves. Traveling with a Ghostwise Hin that spoke only Hin(nish?) and Elven and my character knowing neither language, we were confronted by a Banite for the better part of half an hour while he attempted to discern her diety and do the conversion schpeel.

For her part she tried very hard to get anything across, but it didn't work out as well as either party would like..and in the end our Banite missionary sighed and gave up out of frustration. Quote for the night?

In party chat "Bane: Defeated by Language Barriers."
