0.5 lbs isn't ...very much.

I'd say its like 10 meters long/ 30yards.

It's actually less than your guess.

50ft / lb = 15.24m
Therefore - 0.5LB = 25ft = 7.62m

1 lb = 0.453 kg

Simply multiply. LB to KG = amount * 0.453.

5 LB = 2.265 KG
25 LB = 11.325 KG
100 LB = 45.3 KG

1 ft = 0.304 m

Same as above. Ft to M = amount * 0.304

5ft = 1.52 m
25ft = 7.52 m
100ft = 30.4 m

Hey Ron, where did you get thouse numbers? I got curious and looked it up in 3.5 PHB page 128.

Quote:
Rope, Hempen (50 ft.) 1gp 10lb.

Based on thouse numbers thats what..

5 ft. per 1lb.

So our .5lb. rope is.. 2.5 ft. long!

I thought it was 1 LB, not 10 LB. Damn. Mentally msised a zero.

Divide all my lengths by 10, then.

You get confused easily.

What i said is takin directly from the Player Hand Book, version 3.5

Thats what we use, for the most part, and is 'cannon' its the lore, the end all, elves have pointy ears and dwarves are short. So sayith the PHB!

So yes, we all carry around a rope that is long enough for most (though not all!) of us to use as a belt.

Might be good idea to up the weight to about 2lb. and add into the disc that its a 10' length of rope. If you want a longer rope, carry more of them? Or perhaps making it stackable would be cool,

5 stacks = 10 lb. = 50 ft.
10 stacks = 20 lb. = 100 ft.

Though the length of the rope is just for RP.. really.. if your tring to scale a wall or climb down a bottemless pit and you pull out your half a pound of rope, i hope the DM laughs as you!

...Can we raise the weight of that thing up to 5 lbs or 10 lbs then?

I've been running around with two of them, assuming it would be around 50 feet total

If not I'll be needing an entire bag of the things to have a proper length rope. :?

Well, really, i suppose it can be a magical rope that maintains the mass and weight of a 2.5 ft long rope, but stretchs as needed endlessly.

But i like to have a little mundan in the game ya know? A Torch here.. some heals kits, thives tools, good old caltrops, and a normal, mundan, 10lb rope.

And, of course, a backpack that can easily hold five greatswords, three bows, and an apothecary worth of potions.

Except for nit picking purposes, I don't see any reason to change the weight of the rope. As used in game, it allows you to repel down from a distance of about 20 feet(6.08m), and is ruled as enough to bind a medium sized or smaller creature. Given that you can only rapel down a finite distance, you would then need a length of about 20% more than the greatest distance traveled. In this case about 24 to 25 feet(7.3m to 7.6m, respectfully).

Strictly speaking, a bundle of hemp rope could also be representitive of various ropes, lines, and cords of differing diameters to equal the useful length. Thereby altering the actual weight and test stregth of the rope according to its construction.

I'm sure it's very important to be specific about these details and changing the weight of it in a world where every second PC carries 40 bags of holding, 20 fullplates, 20 greatswords, 200+ potions et caetera, et caetera... ;)

The hemp rope is probably as long as it needs to be.

It's as long as the DM running the event you use it in says it is.

That makes no sense, and I think Tormak hit it head on. Considering we are in a PW, not an ongoing campaign, we have different DMs running different plot lines so things would need to adapt accordingly.

To give a serious answer: The rope bundle is enough rope to use the standard "rope needing tasks" for it. You could reasonably bind a medium to large creature to a reasonably sound object such as a 'normal' oak tree. You could use it to rappel down a "standard height level" in a NWN zone. Any other tasks generally end up needing a DM anyways and so they arbitrate how much "rope" you have or don't hae based on the situation.

... There needs to be a unique ability on the rope so we can tie people to job system trees.... Oh my god that would be perfect.

You could change the name to Silk rope for the weight difference, Silk is offered in the PHB as well.

Why can't we go up with the ropes?

Can't go up because the rope isn't cock blocked during combat, ergo those AA builds can climb hills for flawless victories.

Yeah. The server isn't made for "Go Up Ness". Flight and Shadow Jump are a bit odd enough with it.
