This is not a DM request. The Dawnguard do not have a forum, so we are simply using public threads to discuss an idea under conception. There is no point wasting DMs time considering a request if it does not have player support.

I am soundboarding to a finite group of players to gauge their interest in this project. A link to this thread will be placed in IC correspondance within the Dawnguard faction to assist separating IC and OOC correspondence. This thread will then become the thinking splatboard.

If player support exists then, with the players aware of what is desired to be requested, the work may be taken before DMs.

Thankyou for your consideration.

Dawnguard players - the idea here is how players can via roleplay raise standard of life for commoners and how this can be executed in game.

This is a complex question which I'm sure lots of DMs have interesting answers to. So it is not worth the effort making people busy unless there is broad player support behind the initiative.

Please rate your interest in this idea and express any changes you would like to see. Bear in mind the feedback on this thread will dictate whether an attempt is made to take the idea forwards. Without staunch support from at least 5 other players, this idea will not proceed, especially since i have numerous other projects which need attention.

Thankyou for your input.

Quote:
Long term project support / DM involvement request.

Summary:
We request to be able to send many screenshots of roleplay to a nominated dm, preferably yossarin or bobo_underhill as it pertains to their background knowledge. This roleplay would all be pertinent to a single larger social work project.

The social work project would foster constantly accessible non-combat oriented roleplay available in the taverns of Cordor. This request considers the existing barriers to such occurring and proposes solutions.

Background:

I am the player of Renais Whiteheart, who heads a group of Lathanderan adventurers. As we all know, the Baneite church is coming along strong – kudos to the Baneite co-ordinators, creating lots of fun roleplay for us.

We good little Lathanderans have the theory that Banite worship depends on fear of Bane. Furthermore we believe dictators like the Baneite church rely on a divide and conquer approach to take over Amia.

Our logical deduction is that Lathander would direct us to use our creativity to build binding communities. This would prevent the divide and conquer method from being effective, and the common forum bound together by love of artwork, music, free thought, spirituality and free expression could create a space where it was hard to believe Bane cannot be opposed.

This can all be done without DM involvement; we do so with adventurers at present.

The thought came up… performing to adventurers would only improve the quality of life of adventurers. A real effort for the greater good of Amia, would open a joyous, protective, nurturing community to the common people of Amia. This request explores the feasibility of working for the common folk. Is there a way to bring them to life.

As a sidenote, we refer to previous forum posts by other players suggesting how tavern roleplay might be fostered on Amia. This proposal will help to foster such roleplay.

The obstacle:

No player can log in 24 hours a day, or spend all their time online roleplaying with empty air in a tavern with no PC’s or dms to animate the place.

It would be a lot of work for DMs to regularly observe small roleplay sessions which may involve few players. Consequently the project cannot rely on waiting for a dm to supervise each performance, yet the fact it occurred needs to be noted.

Proposed solution:

We request a DM take the role of receiver for screenshots of roleplayed performances in taverns. I propose Yossarin, as its Cordor – related role play, or Bobo_underhil, as he is informed of dawnguard activity. If a DM accepts the role - hereby refer to this DM as “the receiver” as they are receiving the stream of screenshots – we hope we might keep them informed of all activity occuring in regards to this project, putting them in control of any outcomes due to the project.

This allows our PC’s to perform music or poetry in taverns even when no adventurers are present. Hopefully we can even do so when no DM’s are present, constantly performing positive works promoting hope in these taverns. It means that if the random Cordor adventurers who would otherwise be the audience happen to be trouble makers or shady characters, it’s still possible to make a performance to the NPC’s. Basically singing to the air, taking screenshots, and sending them to the receiver DM.

Over time, if the reciever DM supports our efforts and the quality of the screenshot-reported output, we might organize scheduling DM-supported performances in taverns, where it could turn into a little DM event where Dawnguard PC’s could enjoy mixing with the common people of Cordor for a short scene, as a reward for the investiture of their work.

**************************************************************************
SIDE NOTE

We note that west cordor recently underwent a massive attack, and people would still be displaced after that event. We should have engaged in aid efforts immediately, but better late than never.

We would like to offer payment to the cordor taverns “long and short” and “nomad”, to subsidize those taverns supplying free beds and meals to displaced persons due to the west cordor attack.

So far, so simple. We can ask a dm to roleplay those NPC’s and they will accept or reject our offer based on roleplay.

Since both projects occur in the taverns the effects may well interrelate.

As an aside, you could easily put things like this in the PC Stories section.

It would be a little less complex and convoluted than sending all the screenshots to a specific DM.

By putting it in the stories section, you allow all PC's to participate (watching the performances, providing feedback, etc) as well as all DM's to watch the RP and see what happens.

This is not to dissuade in-game roleplay; however, if you feel serious about this project/venture, I highly encourage you to bring it to the forums to compensate for timezone differences, play-styles, and general absences due to being uninformed.

If anything, I don't see why not start an IC thread there, summarizing your RP that you did in-game as well as screenshots of your chat log and performance(s). I don't mean to butt into your thread but I thought it might be a useful suggestion. If you like, I can delete this post or have it deleted.

Yeah, an IC thread would be better. If you need a DM then send a PM to the one who is needed, after all this is what the DMs asked for in this thread: http://www.amiaworld.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=47367

I think that this idea could be expanded on even farther. You could post story lines in the PC Story thread with screen shots of the role play. A book with art work! This would allow any DM, aside from "the receiver" to observe and keep tabs with the performances as well as possibly gain the intrest of other PC's. You could even post a schedule of performanaces in the PC notice board if any particular player was willing to commit to ans stick with a schedule.

Second to this... You have my support, intrest, and commitment :)

What would be useful to your faction, I think (if I've read correctly, and think you're doing this already) is to start a (or rename this to) Dawnguard: OOC, and start up an IC thread in PC Stories called simply "The Dawnguard".

One for OOC, one for IC.

If the IC or OOC threads become a tad chaotic or difficult to manage (say, by too many plots etc) then I'd say it's definitely time for a dedicated faction forum.

Of course, there is also the problem about secret in-faction things you would wish to keep private. With the new forum there's the option of sending out PMs to a group of people, but then DMs can't see these.

But whatever you end up doing, I will personally be interested in development. I know the Academy of the Mystic Blade is rather fond of you lot.

The Dawn Guard could join up with Nevaeh and her efforts with West Cordor, to lay some basework for your faction and such. We already have some DM support, if you want to do some stuff to get your faction off the ground. :) There is also an opportunity for them to join IC, as well, as shown on the DM event forum.

Well for anyone that cares, I'm the one who suggested this post goes up into General for now because it's a work in progress before the IC context of it can be compiled, reworded, and spread. The idea being to get the faction players aware of some of the notices coming so they don't think their leader forgot about plans being made.

So... yeah. It's here on purpose as my suggestion. If I'm wrong the DM's can figure that out. But I've seen lots of old forums with everyone discussing potential IC stuff here in OOC General. So this should be fine.

Anyways, to the topic, you know I like the idea Vitross. I myself am voting to support it. Hopefully others o' the faction are going to like it too. And the offer still stands if you want more help on wording or clarity... :)

The idea of PMing RP screenies to a DM for DCs is unworkable, so I don't think it's reasonable to expect a DM to keep tabs on the faction RP in the same manner (unless they've specifically requested to be informed). OTOH, posting screenies on an IC forum wouldn't be a bad idea - it'll be up to a DM if they want to wade through it. A call to /dm when some RP is happening is probably the best option, particularly if only NPCs are present.

Since I have been named in this, I will respond.

I do not really mind being the receiver of multiple screenshots, but after reading your plan, I realize that it is largely unnecessary. Allow me to explain.

The whole and entire reason you should be roleplaying in Amia is for the interaction with other players, whether or not the NPC environment exists. Yes, times come when the NPC environment can be interacted with, or when it forcibly interacts with you, but the really big goal is to promote player-player RP, not player-DM roleplay.

I fully understand your need to prove that your faction is legitimately working at changing the NPC environment by doing something IG, but truthfully, if it doesn't promote any player-player interaction, then it is not accomplishing the most important goal.

Does this mean that you have no recourse to change the NPC environment? Not at all. I am lenient enough that if you simply send me a descriptive PM detailing what you are doing, I incorporate its effects into the setting. Or there may be some nuggest in it I choose to pull out and make something out of, something that occurs IG and requires reaction and, often, the "critical choice" that can determine which way the pendulum swings. I am very much a points of interest style DM.

Xaviera is correct that no DCs will ever be provided for screenshotted RP, but I don't think that was really your intent, anyway. But I am here and now telling you that you are better off just letting me know in some decent detail what you would like to do, and I'm not going to force you to roleplay with the empty air just to have an impact. What I will do is try to find a way to turn it into something that gives you a reason to get involved with other players in the server. That's my job as a DM.
