I've recently got a friend of mine into NWN, and let him use my copy to install while he used some CD keys he had lying around for NWN, SoU and HotU.
So we got the game installed, account working, patches set. I walk him through trying to log onto Amia and a few other servers, but it comes up with "Connection failed; your CD key is unauthorized." There's some servers that don't have this problem, but we haven't found a connection yet.
Anyone happen to know how we can fix this?

If you're trying to connect to your account with his CD keys, it won't let you. You need a DM to authorise his CD key.

That's only with Amia. He's trying to connect to several servers and most of them give him the bioware message.
I have no idea though.

Gwayneson, I believe. Let me get ahold of him.
Also, he has his own account / cd keys.
Would he have to authorize them with the other servers as well?

Amia has its own security system to make sure you don't login to other people's accounts (another reason is that we no longer have to rely on GameSpy being up or down). If you are caught by our security (very possible if you have a new cdkey and you try to load an old character) you'd see this message: "Your CDKEY does not match this character. You will be booted. Read the forum for more information.".

It's coming up with the bioware message, where he can't even join the server.

I'm having this problem now too. I just re-installed everything on my new computer and I'm getting the "Your CD-Key does not match this character" message when I log into Amia. I could only find one manual lying around my apartment, its the only set of keys I have currently, how can I resolve this?

If memory serves, make a dummy character and ask a DM in game to authorize your CD key.

Login with a new character, get into the game (ie: out of the entry), and send me a PM with your account name.

I apologize if I'm being persistant about this, but no one knows a solution to the standard bioware message of 'Cannot connect to server; Unauthorized CD Key.' ?

There is a fix, but it is A: Annoying to impliment, and B: Allows you to use any NWN CD key. Which is bad. Because then you can just download the game illegally.
Which if it was any other game I probably wouldn't mind, but NWN is just that awesome. ;D
That said, the fix is pretty much nessecary for LANing with the same CDs/copy of the game, and will prevent you from getting the "Unauthorised" messages. I'm not too well up on the legal side of things. If someone can confirm that it's legal, I'll post a short guide on how to do it.

They're his cousins CD keys from when he got NWN around the time it first came out.

I have the feeling that there is a problem between GameSpy and newer versions of Windows, resulting in the cdkey not being properly transmitted. Not 100% sure, but one thing I do know is that we can't help that from here. Did you try the BioWare forums?
