Well this is just my opinion so lets get started and it'd be nice to hear others as well.

Well lets go off the fact that it takes literally years for anyone ICly to become lvl 1 so by that time you are already an adult. and as a child you are not able to use magic sorry but your not... and then add cleric into that no god is going to grant that sort of power into a child it just doesn't happen. during their childhood any caster class aren't trained.. they are taught about magic or about their god until they are lets see... at least 15 years of age. and only then they are started by cantrips not ninth teir magic which I've seen so bloody much. sorry but if you choose to play a child character you are choosing to play a defenceless child who isn't able to hold a blade to any great skill. you are not a fully grown person so you body hasn't developed to have anything above ten in the ability score section. anyway enough of the rant.

So really what I am saying is.. that any child character should have a lvl cap of what 3 at max and even that's pushing it. and their ability scored drained to ten. because they are children not great warriors mages or clerics... just children those defenceless little things that the world cringes at whenever they are brutely murdered and killed. yes you are going to meet some children that are one strong two quick and three agile. would they be able to fight the likes of a dragon, a demon or a bunch of goblins and not die... no... they are weak helpless little things are are in fact Children. and before any brings up this is a fanstasy world. it is yes but it's still bloody sickening when a child is a grand mage or cleric who's very power rivals that of demons and dragons...

I agree...we have seen enough10 years old epic shadowdancers, who can get to the gauntlet shop with ease or 12 years old palemasters with hellball

I think that the only class that a child can have is either fighter, rogue, or sorcerer and they should not go above lvl 2.

You're beating a dead horse. Anything that can be said has been said a thousand times over, and everyone is rather stuck in their opinions. I'm against children characters at all - no one should be under the age of adulthood for their race (15 for a human) IMO, but it is a view that is disputed by others.

In the end, it becomes live and let live.

Is there any kind of lore to suggest it would would be possible? Barring demonic possession, of course...
Just as a concept though it seems more than a little ridiculous. If there is a precedent then, it's all good. If it is unique to Amia then I would have to ask why.

Why? Because of the lack of restrictions towards peoples roleplay this server has.

My opinion? Low level child characters can be great. Epic hell ball flinging palemaster toddlers, completly lame.

Lore wise, their characters are more powerful than Karsus.

Edit: Personally, I stole my approach from another player: if they can cast any real spells and compete in pvp against adults, they are demons disguising as children.

That's pretty much teh stance my chars take too. But given most of them pragmatic oppertunists, they are not very keen on getting into trouble with said demons.

Quote from that guide Yurell, that sums up everything wrong with child characters:

Quote:
What do you do when you are killed by the armored (full-plate) buffed towershield/bastard sword wielding child and he spits on your corpse to make you look 'weak'?

You re-evaluate your build, ask a DM for one of those free rebuilds you can get nowadays and go kick their arse. Was that a trick question?

However, this thread is beating a dead horse because no official rule is enforced about child PCs. It is also relating partially to an experienced incident.

Yes a child character should be a special request with a level cap at 3 or so.
I've looked around the Rules page but couldn't find anything on it, though I do recall hearing it not being allowed to go beyond lv5. Still every single child character I encounter has an epic level. Seriously bann them all

It would be really nice if it would become clearly stated on the forum so we can take screenies and get those people out of here.

That was regarding the slave characters if I recall it correctly.

Which reminds me, I've never seen such a character before.

It is possible to make a children subrace for every race with a widget which would stop them for taking more then 2 lvl?

Yes there should be some forced level cap or it should be plainly forbidden. Because if we all learned one thing about playing on amia. If rules aren't scripted so that they can't be broken, atleast half of the people will joyfully ignore them.

That's the thing though, it's -not- a rule. As long as it remains open to do, people will make high level/epic child PCs -- they'll have the rules on their side too. As much as I hate it, there's nothing we, as players, can do about it. Individual DMs and a huge chunk of the player base can hate it all they want, but until the DM team makes the decision to do something about it, we're forced to accept it. Real children PCs, that is. Not fake children who might be some whole other beast entirely.

Sounds like it's time the DM's took a vote on it and wrote a rule to either allow disallow or limit this.

Just puttin in a couple cents worth. I agree that yes a child character definatly shouldnt be uberly powerful.
But while reading the latest D&D dungeon master rulebooks it does make mentions to child characters as support characters. So an 8 yr old can still hold a sword and can gut u with it. Child wizards, not possible. Wizards need study. CHild sorcerers, totally possible. Sorcery magic is natural. the child wold have little to no control over it, and would be caped at lvl 3 or so spells. but they still are capable of it.

Well im done

Discussed to death in ten other threads, chances of a subrace are like 0%. I have the urge to vomit too when I see a child PC with a bone arm or epic spells, but what can I do? Totally ignore it and move on.

As for sorcs no yes they are naturaly able to use the weave it still requires training, lots of it to control.

The start age for a lvl 1 sorc is 15 + 1d4 years ... you ma manifest magic before then, but you likely can't control it.

That could be recreated by forcing a high spell fail on child sorcs

It's also not all "spell failure". a ten year old, with a ten year old's emotional instability and epic spells, could very well Hellball their parents if they get grounded. Sorcerers are dangerous because their command of the weave is innate, but vulnerable to their emotional state.

Well that all doesn't really matter. Say for spell fail I don't think it's possible to script questionable magical abilities into the game.
The real point is that we need rules concerning child characters

Well, the issue I see is it's just another thing for the DMs to police. I'd love to see children be just that. Children. No epic kids, please. It's really just... blah, when a child is seven years old, level 30, and just committed a lot of violent crimes and then it starts screaming and crying when you want to put it in jail. And then people passing by are like, "How dare you throw a child in jail, you monster!"

Please no. It makes bunny sad.

This... if something does happen, needs to be auto-enforced, or it's not going to be efficient. It will just be another thing a DM has to go and correct while they're trying to make a story for us, and have fun. Which is subsequently not fun.

If you've fought giants, demons, and dragons you cease to be a child.

Its just playing head games to avoid jail time.

Its clearly an aberration and should be buried/killed/restrained until it matures and/or dies so that it hasn't a chance to procreate.

Altho, when it all boils down, anyone can simply say "its a fantasy world. i can do/ be anyone i want"
I play a 6 inch fall fairy that carry's 50 pounds of gear. explain that one!

But yes. just as a general rule of thumb people. no uber children!
Avoid spell casters all together, make fighter or rogue, give em a wooden sword n run around corder hittin guards with it.

If we must have children PCs...

Make children fall under the same rule as other funky character concepts: Request and DM approval. Force those stat/damage reducing items on them. They lack brain/muscle development - you want to play a child, right? Even then, they should only be around their parent's home/faction area unless out with their parents. Faerun is big and scary, and even most adults do not travel far, or often.. and when they do, they stick to well-established and patrolled routes.

It actually made way for one of the funniest scenes I have seen. This guy was playing an evil character and this child was mouthing off to him. He turns to her, approaching her to stand over her.

The child says, "you wouldnt hit a child would you? I am a powerful sorceror so you have no idea what you are in for even if you try!"

*bastard sword to the child's face, killing it* "I love fighting children, so weak".

I could see how kids could be a ok melee fighter....only because I have seen photos of 6year old body builders that are ripped, prob pumped full of roids and slave driven to work out by their fat dad trying to live through their kids.

IC have a plant from a dead half finished plot that was basicly ment for a uber roids potion

children pc's that go over lvl 10 should be a Platnium coin character, period. Yes, some very few instances one may find a child virtuoso (i spell that right?) that can indeed rock the world, but I'd say is extremly rare. I'd love to hear a DM give an opinion on this.

What you see as a child may not in fact be a child such as creature from the manor of mourn. (or whatever) who could destroy most the server in a one on one.

i personally dont like a level 30 child with no story to it at all, but id rather them not be banned, i have personally not met an epic child, any child, on amia in years, and the beginning of this post along with people who have posted after it seem to be refering to children who have killed their chars which leads me to believe this is a pride issue more than anything else.

it's an issue because a child character over lvl 2 is completely stupid and shouldn't exsist. ever unless of course you aren't a child you are a monster in which be prepered to get killed very often by goodly paladins and the like.

I've never been killed by an epic child, either. It just seems... ridiculous to me. I don't want to snipe at anyone, but I don't feel like there is a reason for an epic child at any time. Children just do not have the capability to be that strong, smart, agile... Not until they hit puberty, and then they start looking more like adults. If a child is like the Manor of Mourn kids, it's not a child. It looks like one, but it's not. It used to be. Now, it's the product of a twisted, sadistic necromancer who is just using the kid's body and manner to be psychologically damaging.

its a fantasy world with fantasy stories, my personal character has a very in depth story that i tried to make very creative, she does not possess the physical abilities of an adult, which is why her powers come from elsewhere, they are not her own and when youre fighting her youre practically not even fighting her. I dont want to rant on story or give away bs, like i just did. But the only arguement i really hear here is.

We dont like kid characters that are epic, there for ban them. Not much logic there, otherwise with points made ill be glad to make counterpoints.

It's not your character that is being attacked, Gexx. Maybe it influenced the making of this topic, but it seems to just be something frustrating that any child can become epic and slay dragons, and be very, very, very good at PvP before giggling and going home to play duck, duck goose. If the child does come up with a good story, and the DMs are fine with it, then it'll be allowed. It eliminates the epic kids with no story at all, while allowing the ones with viable and approved stories to exist.

Edit: However, I do stand that these should be very, very rare if they exist at all.

my character isnt being attacked? then what are all these references of bone arms and hellballs? hmmm... plus the person who posted this had pvp with me in the same day... and she was flaming at me then and now shes taken it here, it really boils down to the whole thing being about pride... like almost all things on amia it seems to me.

Yours simply isn't the first PC to have/do those things. If she does. I don't know. Not everyone is attacking her, however. I'm not. But I have seen things, though I won't bring them up, as per forum rules.

Edit again: If there is some bad blood going around, I suggest having a DM mediate.
