Quick question from a mechanics moron.

My AC without buffs is 40. +4 deflection, +4 natural, +4 dodge etc etc.. Does the power of that ring mean that I technically only get +1 deflection bonus vs animals, since the modifiers do not stack by nature, or should I be getting a separate +5 bonus vs animals on top of my 40 AC, giving me 45 AC vs animals? If the latter is true, shouldn't I be getting 47 AC vs that bear in the screenshot?

I'm pretty sure the former is true, but I wanted to make sure if I was getting jipped or not.

Yeah, it's basically: if foe not animal, +4 AC; else +5 AC.
