Auran Altering Evocations
Drin Al'til
------------------------------

It is said controlling the weather is a dangerous activity to do at itself. As such this skill is often only known to arch druids or high priests of the Auran deities. The lore on the precise methods is not distributed freely and what can be found is often incomplete or faulty. I firmly believe that no progress can be made in these domains if findings are not made public.

In the pursuit of this knowledge I have stumbled on several versions of a control weather spells. They are usually conjurative in nature, barring those with a background of evocations. For this, I am developing an alternative method for influencing weather patterns. The results of this research can be found below. For those that would like to indicate that the results could have devastating effects, I would like to reply that one who has the arcane practice for this could also use the conjurative spell besides a myriad of other potential harmful spells.

Attention points
To be able to alter the weather, one has to overcome a few obstacles in order to succeed. The first two obstacles are interwoven with the nature of our weather system. Starting with that these patterns occur above us, hight is the first obstacle to overcome. Added to that is width. Auran effects overlay large areas, their effects can spread out over multiple miles. This two first obstacles could be integrated into one point: reach.

These are joined by a third obstacle: control. The intend is to remain as much as possible in control of the effects one wishes to create. An intended summer breeze can’t end in the creation of a whirlwind.
These obstacles are taken into account in the design of the spell.

Concept
Following is the basic concept of the evocation. In order to affect a weather pattern without using conjuration or transmutation but with evocation, you would need the correct form of evocation. A single large effect would not cause the needed effect. What is needed are simultaneously occurring small evocations. These would be on the cantrip scale. At this moment the similarities with the Isaac’s missile storm spells can be seen. These are entirely the base of this method. The missile storm spell is a parallel launch of several magic orbs aimed at a specific target. Similarly this spell wil use small evocations of the needed nature to create the effect. These evocations or small orbs are then dispersed in the area creating smaller effects which in large amounts will result in larger effects.

Method
The first step is creating the small invoked orbs. This is simply an extraction and combination of existing spells for the needed effects. Everyone with the sufficient knowledge of the way spells lend their power from the Weave could perform this. These orbs are in a first stage centred at the caster, circling around them. There is a need for a continuous stream of orbs. A serial effect compared to the parallel effect of the missile storms, which makes it less wearing on the caster. As soon as enough orbs are generated, the intended effect should be noticeable around the caster already. The orbs will diffuse their nature to the area around them.

After a first sufficient amount of orbs are created they can be allowed to circle higher above the caster in a wider circle. The effect as such is cone shaped with the tip pointed down. At a certain height the orbs are required to circle there to allow them to do their work and gain momentum. They are the first circle.

This can be repeated to form a second circle and so on. Each additional circle requires a larger amount of orbs to be generated an brought into circulation. The cone shape allow the caster to overcome the height and width. The circling will cause the orbs to gain sufficient force of them self to keep this up and gain altitude. The amount of circles one generates also causes the strength of the effect.

To have the similar effects as the original control weather spell, one would need three circles. At this moment the spell is qua spell circle similar, yet each added circle heightens the spell circle. The duration of the effects are also depended on the number of circles with three being similar to the control weather spell

Findings
The spell in practice has been tested and works so far. So it is possible to create similar effects without using the conjurative control weather spell. Yet so far the experiments have been limited to creating or removing rain and cloud patterns. Generating hail or snow does is the next step, yet seems not entirely different.

One element that remains is the manipulation of wind. In itself possible, but one could wonder is the created effect will not also be a circulating wind and not focused from one direction. Also for the moment the effects are predetermined. In order to be able to affect the spell mid-casting or to create two effects simultaneously a certain flexibility in the nature of the small orbs is required. Combining for instance ignan orbs with auran ones to create a warm breeze. These points are still open to discussion.

As such the spell has been proven to work, but is still in an experimental and crude state. Further research will be done and afterwards specificities of the actual evocation can be written down in scroll of one so desires.
