How can I get access to these forms being an Underdark specific PC? I would really like to get them but it doesn't feel 'right' to sneak up to the surface for something my PC couldn't know about.

"meet" a shifter that knows the forms and that "happens" to pass in the underdark. RP learning his shapes, screenshot and send to DM or ask a DM to supervise.

ask a DM in game, if they have the time and the mood they will give you a mini-quest (like for the DM-given only shapes)

not:
you don't see the forms in the underdark so you can not learn them.
I know this doesnt cross over to the standard shape learning but custom stuff is just custom and sometimes subject to different rules. (ie: DC request spells for example that cannot be learned by all mages, where the standard spells just pop in )

This is pretty much it right here. A shifter learns his shapes by watching and studying the shapes.

There mist be some suspense of disbelief on Amia: You recieve 5 wyrmling colors at shifter one but probably have not met them. There's nowhere on Amia to fight a gargoyle but you get it at shifter 3. I defy anyone to tell me they've fought an Azer, or a Risen Lord, or a Demoflesh Golem, or a non UD character turning into a Drow, Drider, or fighting a Basilisk, or turning into a Rakshasa....

DM should simply oversee your roleplay for it.

Plus, your God can grant you such, he's powerful enough to gift you with it and likes to play an active hand in his worshippers...

Let's not get into divine intervention outside default magic. That's DM stuff.

Well, I only intend on useing the forms available to an Underdark PC... I think that it would be reasonable to use a goblin and an ettercap.

Well there is a gargoyle in Darkhold (at least its a gargoyle model).

The Good Summon Creature IX is an Azer and it never says you have to fight it only study it.

Drow are numerous enough on the surface to be able to study them.

There are Drider spawns in the underdark in a pretty low-level area where you could study them.

The others aren't there as far as I'm aware.

It's a Shadow Demon, not a gargoyle, heh. But I think you get the idea.

Seeing mention of Rakshasa, that sounds like a good epic enemy (and would give shifters the ability to observe them).

Calin's a non-UD character and he encountered the Drider enemies in the UD <_<;;

This was before Ultrannian fell into the sea of course.

Gargoyles used to live in the skullcrags :)

Raksasha could/can? be observed in zanshibon.

+ unless bless is changed (which would make shifters more powerful, and perhaps is not wanted once the change gets through) every lowbie can bless his x-bow bolts and one-shot the raksasha.

Its bless weapon actually which means only Paladins or folks with Wands.

Death Spell Imunity would fix that aswell Belgian.

But I really don't want to add Rakshasa.

Can I ask why not? Or is it just their general tendency to prefer illusions to fighting?

Because I don't want to add another epic Boss at this point in time. No Spoilers.
