Second: You need to go into your router and make it so you and your brother or whoever are not connecting to the server via the same port. This is what's causing the connection issues because the server see two different packs of info coming from the exact same location. The server doesn't understand how to handle this and you start seeing the things like doubling, characters overwriting, etc.
This sort of thing should be in your router options, and since every router is different I'm afraid I can't give much more exact help than that without being at your computer.

Really? It was just the old "portforward dot com" site. First hit on google whenever you type in "Port forwarding".
