Obviously the crossbow, is weak "from my own experience" I was curious how someone. If they "Had" to have a crossbow based character... How would "they" or "you" would go about such a character? ....Obviously it would be a role play based character.... I absolutely love crossbows in my own personal preference. :D Can arcane archer skills be used with a crossbow "doubt it" Strangely. a Crossbow was used to puncture heavy armor. but inside this game. any ranged weapon seems to do that fine.
Any insight would be helpful... And yes I already know its useless :P
just ask yourself "What if"

P.S I apologize for all the post about advice and difference of things..
I am always trying to learn more about the game so I can apply myself more fluently in the area of "role play" Thank you all for your time and input.
:)

Isn't it possible to get dev crit with a crossbow?

Nevermind me though. I never play archer characters anymore.

Arcane archer skills work only with bows. IIRC.

NWN archery skills now work with them, from what i understand a patch worked with it. http://nwn.wikia.com check ot make sure

You can get dev crit with any weapon. Including darts.

My crossbow-wielding cleric/monk of Hoar worked quite well. I went for high wis and cha and used Zen Archery and Divine Might to pack a punch.

Fully buffed, he ran around with 56 ab and 70 AC, doing ok damage.

He'd be better with a bow, for sure, but the crossbow worked just fine, and even balanced out some of the cheese of going cleric/monk.

There's also some pretty nasty bolts out there for xbows that went in a while back. I don't recall the stats, but I do recall they were good.

Especially if you play drow.

If you go crossbow, try to become the nemesis of some Rakshasa-based shifter. You'll have a blast.

I believe I would go with the heavy crossbow, considering all I have noticed the difference between, is the weight and the extra damage, so I would certainly go with the heavy crossbow

Light crossbow has higher coolness factor though. Heavy and light is like the difference between an Baretta pistol and a M16 assualt rifle. The former is smaller and does less damage, but is easily concealed and more stylish.

My advice for the crossbow is to play a zen archer. Cleric or monk, Monk will probably work better for the 30 level cap. Unfortunately, NWN left out many of the special equipment that PnP has for the crossbowman, such as a repeating chamber and the hand crossbow.

Tried to do a monk, dwarf Crossbow using guy a while back.

One thing that I always thought would be cool would be if Crossbow used STR instead of DEX. But eh, what ya gonna do.

I have a Crossbow toting Halfling Bard, using a Light Crossbow.
With standard Bolt+2 and a Seeking Crossbow, my max crit so far has been 50 damage

I won't leave a spoiler, but i can attest to this. It's like launching mini Greatswords at people. ;)

I think using a crossbow is only good for a dark skinned human male character to hold sideways while saying "I gona bang yo ass!"
