Lets see if this puts my neck on the chopping block...
I've been contacted before by people who are interested in Salandra's faction and possibly joining. I help them with advice, things to expect, how it would be like, and a few cases build suggestions even on their character.
Now for everything I'll give you to be OOC recruited and make a PC for the sole purpose of joining the faction; I'm still going to request there is RP first.
What's so wrong with planning "I'd like to try and get in with x-character" and working on it as long as you do the RP? Recruiting OOC is wrong how?

Because X character could actually be the worst fit for the faction ever.

I've managed to find 2 DMs who are willing to take a look and help out. Form what I hear, thats 2 more DMs than the UD has seen in the past 2 years. (joke)
Anyway, I'm getting the ball rolling IC, so put your PC where your mouth is, and come find me in game. To those that have made contact with me already, thanks. Things will be progressing over the next few weeks.

The opportunities for duergar in L'Obsul is vast right now, same with svnifnerblin, orog and kobold PCs.
They will receive help with lore, assistance IC and OOC, and will be pointed in the right direction as needed.

PM me if you need Duergar information. I have an extensive database of Duergar information due to my creation of Kroann and attempting to fix the gigantic lore bugs in Amia's NPC Duergar.
Sorry, but Amia's NPC Duergar, particularly the ones in Underport, are just the worst example of Duergar EVER. They deserve to be deleted ASAP.

Why don't you do a write up for Disco to look into Selvec? Maybe you can even help him write some convos.

I'd be very interested to make a new character for this, but I already have a lot of regular race characters in my possession. I'd like to try something new this time.. How many DCs does it cost to make an Illithid or a Beholder character?

A request that wows the DM team. In all my time being on Arelith and Amia, there has only been one beholder character and no illithid, and that beholder character was made on Arelith, years before the character creation rules.

Well, you can always try, hmm? Hope the DC cost doesn't go over 15, though, cause it will take me forever to get that many, and [insert another useless rant about the DC system here].

Dcs is not something taken into account when appraising special characters request. There it is a question of concept. We may require a permanent skin change but thats only 10 dcs but apart from that few situations we don't use your current amount of dcs when considering the request.
Also as Tormak says we are not likely to approve them as they're among the monster characters best kept monsters since they'll be very tricky to play properly and within reason of their lore.

I hate to repeat myself, but you can always try. Even a minor chance is still a chance, even if it would take dozens of hours of lore research and it's complete understanding.

I find that its possible to get into character of a difficult type of RP with less than 3 hours of research. However, to be truly authentic, a few more hours of reading up would be nice, especially if you have access to books where these types of PCs have appeared in.
As I recall, beholders were most common in books involving the Zhents and zhent city.

Underport is an Illthid controlled city, with Illthids present (General Knowledge I think, if not delete ASAP.). The reason duergar's should be removed from the city is because of the origins of Duergar. Several thousands of years of an entire race being enslaved by the Illthids tends to make that race a little bit cranky towards the race that enslaved it.
They basically have an instense instinctual hate towards Mind Flayers. It's why Duergar don't have mages, because they are actually Psionics (Which must be represented by arcane varities, due to NWN's limited engine). This Psionic power was brought about by the enslavement to Illthids and is also the reason behind the Duergar mind immunities to Paralysis and Death. I think the poison is just because Duergar are actually meant to be inherently roguish. Not big heavy armor wearing juggernauts like Dwarfs. Though they do have heavy armor wearing members of there race.
All this is mentioned in the PH I think, under Duergar. I also have a massive amount of information from PDF's on my home computer on the race.
They would probably be more popular is it was general knowledge that the majority of their race are not just Dark Dwarfs, but more suited towards roguish talents and better history.

It could probably be tweaked so that the duergar there are enslaved Duergar, no? Beter than removing them all. Just adapt to the lore.

That would be more lore freindly yes. Though the race escaped from its Mind Flayer masters, but it's likely that some are again slaves.
