I apologize, I am new to all this, and I'm not sure if this is suppose to be posted here, or where so I figure General, would be the best bet =)
I want to make some kind of evil summoner, type character. yet I'm unsure how to go about it, I've boggled my mind coming up with a story. and a description, I have a concept, I am looking for any advice, hints/tips
I am kind of computer illiterate. So again I apologize, Any role playing advice on this type of character, or an example of some kind, would be greatly appreciated =) Thanks.

P.S Sorry if this post doesn't belong here so please don't blast me, =)
or this question has already been asked. If you could kindly direct me to the preexisting topic/website I would happily, refer to it, I would like advice from gamers that play on the server or made it... Thanks =)

Just start asking yourself questions about him.

Who is he?

Where did he come from?

Why is he here?

Evil? Why is he evil? Is he evil?

Does he see himself as evil?

Does he care?

Why does he summon undead?

Why is he a necromancer?

Why is he becoming a pale master?

Why does he want these things?

What hopes, dreams does he have?

What does he seek?

What is he willing to do to get to his goals?

Answer those questions for him, write them down. Look at them. Keep asking those questions till you're happy with him. Then put it to paper and stare at it, remember it, then use that. That is him. The questions that do not have answers in character for him? Thats clearly something for him to look for in character/do. The driving force.

That's my take on it.

Suggestion: make the necromancy part of him secret. Don't go grocery shopping dressed in all black and wearing a skull mask, but try to become an established mage on the good side that secretly conducts experiments and summons undead somewhere, and prepare to perma your character in the epic end.

The lore on undead etc, try to find it out IC rather than from lore books. You could even masqurade yourself as an undead-hunter and acquire information by torturing and enterrogating other necromancers.

Focus on story rather than lore-correctness is my advice!

Fleshing your character out with some insanely big backstory on why he wants what he wants, rooted in some conflicted childhood or something, is rarely contributing to cool RP scenes in my book. Just being a guy that wants to be all-mighty, live forever and rule the world is more than enough to drive a good plot forward, IMO.

Those are very good guiding questions that Dwagin posted. I would highly recommend those.

If you're looking for information on the nature of necromancers/pale masters, I'd recommend this Amia Wiki article:
http://amiawiki.shatuga.com/index.php/Pale_Master

After reading over that, you may have a good idea as to what the nature of these necromantic beasties are.

This forum is just the place for these sorts of inquiries, don't worry :)

Here's a bit of information that might help you:

Velsharoon, god of Necromancy & Undeath:

Falazure (draconic god of undeath, with lots of mortal necromancer worshippers)

What Kjetta said, pretty much.

It's horribly clichéd and irksome to see necromancers waltzing around with bone arms in full view, wearing cheesy black robes and being utterly evil and anti-social at every chance they get. Your character should make an effort to blend into society, to pass off as one of the good guys, or at least neutral, while keeping his necromic and evil nature hidden from view.

It's just much interesting than typical Saturday-morning-cartoon villains in my opinion. No offence to Frey.

All good advice, except, being someone who enjoys his lore, I would suggest reading at least a little bit about necromancy, mages and lore on the gods of necromancy, undeath and death like the ones Gers suggested. I'll add to the god list with this:

Kiaransalee - Drow goddess of undeath and necromancy
Yurtrus - Orc god of death and disease
Orcus - Demon prince of undeath

Kelemvor - God of death
Jergal - God of fatalism
Urogalan - Hin god of death
Segojan Earthcaller - Gnome god of death
Dumathoin - Dwarven god of death
Sehanine Moonbow - Elven goddess of death

These aren't links to say "hey, pick a god!", just to show you what these different types of faithfuls do so you can takes some of the ideas and come up with ideas of your own too. Pick a god, don't pick a god, doesn't matter.

Although I'm a fan of the "evil under cover" thing, do what you want to do. Make a fun and interesting character for yourself and enjoy!

There is only one. It's Velsharoon. The one god conspicuously absent from Gunz' writeup.

Fuck the gods of necromancy. Much cooler to be a necromancer that isn't intrerested in necromancy in itself, going on and on and on about how undead are 'perfect beings' or whatever. The new black is to be a guy that uses necromancy as a tool for something else, like a cool guy that worships Oghma and just wants to live forever so he can learn EVERYTHING!

Also forgot Falazure, Dragon god of undeath ;D
Also if you wanna join the Velsharoon, just come to the Temple of Velsharoon when ever Nathano Darkfire is online, He's the Necromaster (High Priest of Velsharoon) and would probably welcome more followers of the Vaunted.

A Hoarite Necromancer would be awesome too, you could be all about vengance from beyond the grave! Revenants FTW!

Dress your necromancer up as a druid or ranger. Make friends with those classes. Don't let anyone know, ICly or OOCly. Use undeadliness only when you're sure you're not being watched. Eventually, someone will discover it, and suddenly everything becomes awesome. :D

I am totally not doing this by the way.

Nope. Definitely not.

One question about PM's while we are at it: The Class change page says that PM's are 'wickeldy evil arcane spell casters'. Is this a house rule, or can you make neutral palemasters, as the nwn mechanics suggest?

I want to thank you all for your input, I appreciate it very much.
I like the idea of a "cloak and dagger" type character, I am a little unsure if I possess the "role playing" skills to make it happen, I shall defiantly ponder over this. I like the idea of the Velsharoon as a chosen deity. I will defiantly take that into consideration, I was thinking along the lines, of "pretending" that my character "thinks" he is a Dark God of some kind which of course " is not true" I am assuming Pale masters have thought up much worse lol.
I was also, think is it possible for a Cleric to become a Pale Master? Perhaps I could somehow "pretend" to be a trustworthy cleric of some kind, just a idea, I am not to bright when it comes to things like this, -Dwagin I will defiantly refer to those questions every time I make a character. I downloaded a role playing guide off the net, which didn't help me very much, Does anyone know the rites necessary to become a pale master? and is there anyway to act them out? in a role play setting of some kind?
- Any more comments/hints/tips would always be welcomed,
Also.....A Ranger? =/ I cant imagine a spell caster pretending to be a ranger... I think the bone arm would give it away? =P what would i say?
I played a little to rough with the panther? I'm joing with you, however if you could give me some more insight on how something of that degree can be done I will defiantly think about it, if not a ranger maybe pretend to be another class all of its own, thank you for the idea =) Thanks everyone.

A Palemaster can be a Cleric, yep. But if you're asking does Cleric fulfill the prerequisite to become a Palemaster, the answer would be no. Only Wizard, Sorc. and Bard. It's an arcane class, not divine.

I would suggest against spilling the beans too much. Let people find these things out about your character IC. You don't want intentional or unintentional metagaming.

I left Velsharoon -and- Falazure out because I was adding to Ger's list. He had already listed those two. It would have been redundant.

While I don't agree with "fuck the gods of necromancy", I know what you mean. I agree with what you're saying too. There's nothing to stop someone from worshiping other gods and/or using Necromancy as a tool rather than it being the center of their characters life. I only mention and list the gods of undeath, necromancy and death so it feeds his thoughts and the brain gets moving. It can very much so inspire ideas.

Oi! What's that supposed to mean?

Anyway, I think the fellow should come to meet some friends IC. Like the Eternal Order buddies. They're smart, goodlooking and know a whole deal about necromancers and undead.

Above all else, remember that you are RPing not just a necromancer, but your character. Make sure there is more to them than just necromancy - it's a person, remember, not a 1-dimensional plot-device.

Don't encourage that!

Soon it'll become an emo necro who tickles and giggles with elves.
