Folks.
A reminder, because apparently people have not been reading the "guidelines" at the main post.
When I save the files from the email attachments to my desktop, I am assuming they are all ready to go into the pack. You can imagine my surprise when it comes the time to work on the big image that will depict all portraits going to be added, only to find out that some files are not in the necessary file types and sizes. If I am warned beforehand, I know what to expect and I can change (resize/crop) the files on the same day I saw them and not on the "deadline", the exact day that I am making the pack.
This being said, if you are going to send me your portrait for me to resize/crop it, please, say so on the email. If you know not that the file needs a specific size and format, ask on a PM or the email itself how you do it, or simply check the first page of this thread, where you will see posts teaching how to make your portrait file in a way NWN will recognize.
Now that the reminder has been given, stay tuned. The pack should be avaliable in one or two hours from this post.
Delays, only if my internet dies in the middle of the uploading.
Which, ironically, has been happening a lot recently. >.<

Can a DM with a lot of time to spare clean up this thread for me, please?
I need you to keep posts from DMs, as well keep Tormak's post and mine where we tell people how to convert your portrait file to NWN's interface.
In case of doubt about which posts to keep, just shoot me a PM or post here.
I reckon it is easier if I just quote the important bits on a new post and then everything else is removed, but if the original posts are kept, people will have no doubts about the DM's thoughts about the portraits' management.
Or just tell me to sod off, since I admit that I am being nitpicky. >_>;;

How to Make Your Portrait

You can also download the sample portrait I created, shown left. (This portrait is meant to be humorous, and should inspire you to do better!) You will need WinZip to unzip this portrait. If you view my sample portrait in your image editor, you will see it has the blank area described above. Remember, if you don't leave this area blank, you will experience crashes when you try to save your game.
Step 2.
Create your custom portrait, whatever it may be, in the 'portrait' area. Remember, even though the total size of the canvas is 256 x 512 pixels, only use the top 256 x 400 pixels as diagramed above for the portrait itself.
Step 3.
Now you need to create five versions of the portrait for the game to use. You have already created the largest version, so you can just resize it to make each of the four other smaller versions.
The dimensions of the five versions needed are:
256x400 (on a 256x512 canvas) - used for the Player Character Bio
128x200 (on a 128x256 canvas) - used for the character sheet
64x100 (on a 64x128 canvas) - used for the in-game portrait
32x50 (on a 32x64 canvas) - used for the party members and radial menu
16x25 (on a 16x32 canvas) - used for the chat thumbnail
Step 4.
You must save the images as Targa (.tga) files, (selecting the '24 bits' and 'uncompressed' options of your software). Compressed Targa files will not work in NWN. The filenames for the five versions must follow this pattern:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxh.tga (for the 256x512 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl.tga (for the 128x256 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxm.tga (for the 64x128 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs.tga (for the 32x64 canvas)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxt.tga (for the 16x32 canvas)
Where the prefix "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" is a name you create, is 1 to 15 characters in length, and the same for all five versions.
The 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't' that follows the prefix indicates the size of the image (Huge, Large, Medium, Small, and Tiny).
So for my sample portrait, I created these five images:
robinsample_h.tga
robinsample_l.tga
robinsample_m.tga
robinsample_s.tga
robinsample_t.tga
As you can see, my images all have the same prefix of "robinsample_" (since it is 12 characters in total, it follows the rule of being between 1 to 15 characters), and I also have each of the five versions - 'h', 'l', 'm' ,'s', and 't'.
Once you have either created your portrait, or downloaded one, you can use it in the game. OrTormakSaber wrote:

December will have two portrait packs' release and you have two chances at sending your portraits.
The first will be updated on the 15th of December. In order to have your portrait there, send it to me until the 14th.
The second batch will come on the 30th. For this one, send portraits to me until the 29th.
After that, only January 15h, if there will be portraits. Then February 1st, when I will go back making monthly releases on the first day of each month.

Dri, would you mind adding the file names of the portraits to the text file? I've several of the portraits there under multiple file names, so I'd like to know which file name people are using so I can use the others. This is so that if someone complains I am using 'their' portrait I can point to the fact that I got it from somewhere else.
It's also easier to do a quick word search on the text file for a portrait I intend to use.

On second thought, I do not think it is necessary to do this. At the end of the main post, you can preview all the portraits that are in pack with the JPG images I made.
You just.. do not pick the portraits you see in those images.
EDIT: 1280 files total, between the H/L/M/S/T. 256 if I count only the H file. I actually started doing as you suggested when I remembered that there are the preview images at the main post.
Besides, there are a lot of pictures that I "inherited" from the old pack, before I took over, that I have no idea to which characters they belong. So, even if I put the name of all the files from when I started, some will still be missing.
EDIT 2: Still, I will add the filenames, but little by little. It will not be a "top priority" thing. As in, I will add when I really have nothing else to do, when I do have spare time. I might or might not be done by December 30th.

It's also easier to do a quick word search on the text file for a portrait I intend to use. On second thought, I do not think it is necessary to do this. At the end of the main post, you can preview all the portraits that are in pack with the JPG images I made. You just.. do not pick the portraits you see in those images. EDIT: 1280 files total, between the H/L/M/S/T. 256 if I count only the H file. I actually started doing as you suggested when I remembered that there are the preview images at the main post. Besides, there are a lot of pictures that I "inherited" from the old pack, before I took over, that I have no idea to which characters they belong. So, even if I put the name of all the files from when I started, some will still be missing. EDIT 2: Still, I will add the filenames, but little by little. It will not be a "top priority" thing. As in, I will add when I really have nothing else to do, when I do have spare time. I might or might not be done by December 30th. That's the point I'm trying to make. I have multiple copies under different names of those pictures. I want to know which one an Amian is claiming to be 'theirs' so that when I use the other I'm not accused of ripping off 'their' portrait, rather taking it from the site they got it from originally (since I already have thirty fivethousand portraits).

Frankly, even if they accuse you, they will be told "Deal with it". There's nothing the DM team will do about it unless it's a mutual understanding ad voluntary between the players.

Copyright it. It actually doesn't cost very much to do it. If you can't be hassled to do it and/or spend the money, what you do is put a hard copy in an envelope and send it to yourself. It gets dated by the US postal service and holds up in a legal court of law in the US.
EDIT: It has to be the original hard copy, btw. So if it was digitally made... you kinda have to get it copy righted 'cause anyone can mail themselves a printed picture.
EDIT 2: Needless to say, you have to be the original creator of the art, unless you enjoy getting yourself in legal trouble with the US Government.

You mean like Torin's? I had this happen and Nekh's direct statement was that nothing can or will be done despite the picture being a gift from another player and 110% an original creation. No matter the source, the DMs cannot and will not force any player to change a portrait due to it already being used by another player.
My solution was to remove my portrait from the pack. I give it to those who want it individually. Is it selfish? Undoubtedly. Petty? Yep. But it was a gift to me and it is for my character. Pardon my possessiveness.

Did you check the pack to see if it is still there? Check it again if you have time and willingness, just in case, and if it is still there PM me the filename so I can remove it.
Unless if it was already removed from the pack before I took over.
EDIT: I have not been in game in a couple of months now. I can only hope no-one is using the portraits of my characters that my friend made for me. Still, if someone is using them, tough luck. I should have kept it away from the pack in the first place. *sighs*
EDIT 2: Ugh.. messed up my siggy. Ah, well, too sleepy to fix it now.

I haven't noticed any problems with this with the portrait pack, but here goes anyway.
If you come across portraits which are upside-down, that's because they haven't been saved properly. In order to use them right-side-up, they have to be opened and re-saved. The default options (except for compression, turn that off) for TGA images is what you need.

Just a small query, but I feel it is appropriate here.
Can I simply designate a portrait as being used by my whole account, rather than just a character? I'd like to whip up a stock of unique portraits for personal use on one or more of my characters, as I may decide to scrap one part way through and use the same portrait for example.

They're your portraits, you can do what you want with them. Although if they're in the portrait pack s can anyone else.
That said, if you choose to download them from other packs and claim them as your own (as a number of people have done), you certainly cannot expect (or deserve) other people to respect that they're yours.

If they are added to the pack, you lose all ownership rights. This is the DM team's official stance.

I just got thrown by it saying you have to assign a character to a portrait. Assigning it to my account name would make sense, as the name is unique so I can ignore naming conflicts, and I intend to make lots of them. I thought I'd also provide a reason why I want to do this, in that I want to have them available for many of my own characters. You'll note the language used did not explicitly say no one else could use them, and I fully understood this.
I also make sure to gain full usage rights to the base image, i.e. that I may modify and distribute the result with permission. This does mean however none of my images can be modified without seeking permission from the original photographer and myself.
I will therefore consent to these images being used and viewed by anyone. However, it is in their best interest to NOT modify and re-distribute the images without permission. I myself do not mind, but I want to preserve the integrity of the owner of the stock image, who I cannot speak for. I'm going to assume this is fine, because yurell stated that others have taken images from other packs, which means they have far less permission over their usage than I have over my images.
Regardless, here's my deviantart page, so far it's just got two images on there but more to come. If you have any requests, PM me as I need ideas anyway.

I've gotten a error message when im trying to convert the portrait "Tormaks way"

I was meaning to make a new batch the day before yesterday, but since only one player sent me a portrait, I will make the new pack on February 1st, instead.

Alright, I give up figuring out what is going on with Mediafire.
It simply is not uploading the full pack. The upload that usually took some 20 minutes, now barely takes one minute even though the file is a bit larger than the others.
It uploads it at lightining speed and when it is on 100% uploaded, it shows me this:
(Thumbnail, click it)
And nothing else happens even after minutes have passed. There is no option to cancel or interrupt it, except if I close the tab.
I thought it could have been WinRAR making something funny when compressing the files, but even after I made a new RAR, the problem kept happening.
Anyone has any idea why this is happening?

Have you done all the basic browser troubleshooting?
- Tried different browser.
- Deleted cookies/temp files.
- Delete cache.
- Reinstall web browser.
Could try some/all of these things and see if it makes any difference whatsoever.
