What has not been asked or hypothesized is what are characters going to do once you nerf the high crit range weapons. People will still want to min/max so they will drop their scimi's and rapier's only to pick up longswords. There will be a whole lot of rebuilding and then everyone will be running around with longswords. Some will say that balances the game, other will say these are the basic building blocks of the game.............leave them alone.

People will then start complaining about how unfair the longsword has become since it will be the most popular/powerful weapon on the site. So lets nerf that. Where will it stop? By changing basic tenants, you completely change the game. The way these weapons were formulated in terms of gameplay dates back to the earliest versions of DnD. Now you propose to make adhoc changes based on fairness.

Players for the most part will always choose the weapon(s) most advantageous numbers-wise, not appropriateness to the character. Those using the high crit range weapons are being penalized for using the most effective weapons. It looks silly on their character, but it doesn't affect the overall role playing ability of the person controlling the build.

Wanting to make power builds and have them become all they can be is a good aspect of this game that should be celebrated. We should not detur it but welcome it. Having a high crit range and dev crit is a deadly combination, granted. But if the developers of the game made it this way long ago, so be it. We should not mess with it now.

But I do know one thing for sure. My scimi wielding pali is gonna go out and buy himself a Wonderforged Longsword BEFORE this change takes place and their is a run on such weapons.

And I would have tied this entry to the original threat but it was locked and I did want to get my 2 cents in. I do have one build that uses the scimi and a dwarf that does not. I see merit to both sides of this argument. I personally think this is one change that should not be made.
