I've said it before and now I will say it publically as well.

You never have in any slight real or immagined ever offended me personally and neither do I think you are responsible for those issues that seem to be plaguing the dale currently.

I'm not really sure what provoked this, maybe all the complaining people are doing about the Dale lately, but regardless, it's big of you to come out and say something like that, for whatever the reason was you thought you'd need to.

I think any alienating done was simply due to the fact of being a DM for an area while at the same time having a PC in the position of authority in that area, which I've said before. There really should just be a staff policy against that in my opinion, because it's going to make bad feelings and exacerbate cliquish-ness, as people now have two reasons to suck up to the person in charge around and ignore/exclude others. It also kind of defeats part of the purpose of having a PC authority, which is to be a player intercession between other players and the DM of that area.

Don't get me wrong, Lyle is a great character and you did a great job DMing but having one person be both the player authority and DM authority kind of makes a "cult of personality" atmosphere. Even with all its problems though, I still think the Dale was the best place on the server, and maybe still is (not around as much now to say) because of the kind of "PC town" thing it had going on and coming close to feeling like a real community rather than a "faction" or just another npc town.

I agree with you, actually. I hated having to do both, and pawned off DMing over Bendir Dale back to Gothic as soon as he got back and was ready to handle to return to the client. It was not my intention to be both ever.

I know from being behind the scenes that you stressed over the situation and only wanted to continue the excellent atmosphere the Dale had/has.

When I took my leave, you were left holding the ball. And you did an excellent job with the situation you were left in. Folks need to remember that this is a game and that we are real people, doing the best we can for the enjoyment of each other.

I had, and still have, no problems with your efforts in the difficult circumstances of dealing with the area both as a player and as a DM.

Other Details: Rather odd and disturbed, even for a taller. He constantly laughed and acted like a child while he was in the gates. Travelled with another taller *Description of Leprous Jack* who refered to the hin as children, but he left without any quarrel. The Suspect was escorted out of the Dale without any violence, but he may not be so easy to deal with if he returns.

No but in all seriousness, Saucey pants nailed it right on the head. You did a fine job running the Dale as a DM. It takes balls for a DM to run the Dale for many different reasons.

Personally, I don't think your PC ICness ever effect the DMing side of things. But I do agree with Blood that I auto-dislike any situation where a DM takes lead role over DMing an area their main PC is involved. There's too much room, not only for abuse, intentional or unintentional, but for people to think or lie about there being any kind of power abuse. I do understand the situation you were left in though, so this wasn't your fault, in my opinion. Not that I see any "fault" here to begin with.

Really, you've never done wrong by me and I have that much more fun in Bendir for hanging with Lyle. You've done a great job thus far and even with Lyle retired, still having lots of fun.

Juliette can be seen stumbling home at the break of dawn smelling strongly of wine, champagne and illegal pipeweed as she hums a tune. Soon afterwards a note is put up on the entrance of Juliette's and Secile's residence in Bendir Dale. All the curtains are drawn shut and the door is locked.

Word reaches Bendir Dale that a heavily pregnant hin woman in blue robes staggered into the recovery ward late in the evening. The report states that the woman was in fair condition, though she was highly stressed and winded. She'd exhausted herself to the point of near unconsciousness, having moved as quickly as she could from Bendir Dale to the temple without using a cart, explaining that it was for fear that the driver would alert her pursuers.

The woman was under the effects of invisibility and Sanctuary when she arrived, and was quickly escorted to a bed in the maternity ward to rest after mentioning something about an attack in the Dale.

After running into Nick, assuming a psuedo-militia role, Nick informed Dito of the attack and spoke of the subsquent attack and of Suzy fleeing the scence just in the "nick" of time. After running immediatly home he checked the Salandrians for his wife, knowing from previous conversations she would go there when the baby was close to coming. Once there he would find Suzy and stay at her side vigilantly fetching here ice cube chips and telling her to keep breathing as the time neared that magical moment.

Upon arriving at Bendir Dale to rest between a trek south, I was instantly demanded to "put away my weapon". Presumably, this meant my bow, which I had in my grip, and my arrows at my back, so I complied by putting my bow in a prone state.

This, however was far from enough for the purple haired militia member at the time, demanding that I put my weapon away "entirely". I still have trouble understanding this concept.

I left, as not to cause any further trouble, however I am left with a feeling of sadness for your dale town.

You do not need to fear that I am insulted, or feel hostile toward Bendir Dale, but it pains me to be treated in such a manner, especially considering my ongoing relationship as envoy.

I worry that others may take further offence and act out negatively. I do not wish that situation to happen.

Your actions were quite proper and I commend you on your willingness to not push the situation. I also appreciate you candor in relating the event.

Hearth Law tells us that we must always offer hospitality to our guests, but this does not mean that we need tolerate folk that do not offer the same courtesy.

HIN FESTIVALS as celebrated in Bendir Dale
A true calendar was used instead of the Faerunian one, as the months are of differing lengths. The month names are the same though.
Year of the Banner; 1368 DR

Midwinter (Alturiak~Feb. 4) = Cyrrollalee / During this time, Hin gather together in friendship to share the crafts they are working on while they wait out the weather and prepare for the spring sowing.

Vernal Equinox (Ches~Mar. 20) = Sheela Peryroyl / Hin gather together to till and sow the fields. All Hin participate and the Farmers offer hearty fare to all those that worked in their fields and orchards. This marks the beginning of the planting season.

Midspring (Mirtul~May 5) = Yondalla / This is a time of great celebration. The fields having been planted, blessings are sought for a bountiful harvest to come. Hin gather to receive blessings from the clerics of all the pantheon and special services are held by the clerics of Yondalla. If the community has an artifact of Yondalla, it is now that it is brought out for all hin to receive its blessings.

Summer Solstice (Kythorn~Jun. 20) = Brandobaris / This celebration is a masquerade ball. It is filled with stories and song, food and drink, and riddles and pranks are the rule.

Midsummer (Eleasis~Aug. 4) = Tymora / Games, games, games. Holdovers from Luiren, such as ridge-running and kite-fighting are staples. Contests of skill and daring are planned with the winner’s receiving minor trophies and blessings from the clergy. Games of chance are also included, but excess is frowned on.

Autumnal Equinox (Eleint~Sep. 22) = Arvoreen / A martial tournament is held and a great banquet is offered in Arvoreen’s name.

Harvest Festival (not official, just a party at Harvest time) A celebration following the harvest. Yondalla and Sheela Peryroyl are venerated. Banquets and dancing are the rule.

Midautumn (Uktar~Nov. 5) = Urogalan / Also known in greater Faerun as “The Feast of the Moon”. This day is a celebration of those Hin who have gone on to the Greenfields. Hin gravesites are re-consecrated and families clean and tidy the markers and tombs.

Winter Solstice (Nightal~Dec. 21) = Dallah Thaun / *All* mature hin would (or should) know of Dallah Thaun, but *no* outsiders would. The celebration comes after the Harvest Festival and The Feast of the Moon. It allows the Hin to release tensions from the hard work of the harvest and the trials of the year (it’s tough being nice all year long). In secret Hin make masks to hide their identity. During this celebration it is understood that all transgressions of hearth law, propriety and decorum are forgiven. Hin gather and play games of chance, tell outrageous stories, conduct themselves in behaviors normally frowned on and basically give in to hedonistic behaviors.

Would weekends be better for you? I plan on doing these regularly...so when would be better.

Well every Saturday morning (my time) I'm at the mercy of a friend giving me a lift or the buses getting me home. It should be alright though, it is a very rare occasion that doesn't get me home before then.

A question, though, about holding a festival to Dallah Thaun.

Are you sure that she would be celebrated with a festival in Bendir Dale? I know it's a DM decision in the end, but I just can't imagine it being so openly celebrated, let alone being endorsed by such secretive clerics.

I would imagine any open celebration would just be a sort of winterfeast or yule-like thing, and any mention of Dallah Thaun done in private only. Hiding in plain sight and all that.

I can see that, yea. That was going through my head at the time I posted, but my brain inclined more toward non-celebration/secret veneration. I was very tired.
