I have a Ruathem shield maiden that might fit well, though she may stand out slightly because she does not follow Uthgar. Still, maybe we could give it abit of a shot?

Oh and any specific totems an Uthgarite (?) cleric should follow, or is it just the player's choice? The Beast Totems are based on the cleric's alignment and the cleric (which in this case is a shaman) has to pick one of these totems: Black Lion (CG), Black Raven (CE), Elk (CN), Gray Wolf (CN), Great Worm (CG), Griffon (N), Red Tiger(CN), Sky Pony (CN), Tree Ghost (NG), and Thunderbeast (CN).

Rogue levels allowed? If they're treated as 'scout' or battle prowess on a human warrior type, particularly a female?

I LOVE YOU!!!! *Loves norse/viking themed stuff*

Now if only I had a character that would fit in lol. Ah well.

And wouldn't a spear be a fine weapon for a barb character? They are a tribal weapon.

What about wizards? For example a seith mage that focusesses on ilusion spells. Or a seer that places his focus on divinitation.

I can't see a barbarian tribe as -ever- having a wizard. It requires far too much studying and such. Sorcerer is a distinct possibility for barbarian tribes, though they're frequently shunned once their powers begin to manifest, especially given the distinct lack of control sorcerers have, especially when first learning their magic.

Plus, barbarian tribes have historically been very averse to other people than their tribal shamans using "magic". Regardless of the fact that magic isn't actually real, many cultures have thought it is, in the past, and didn't take kindly to unwarranted use of it, which would likely include an upstart sorcerer.

Books are an easy source of tinder for fires, or is a very convenient portable ass-wipe.

Note: The idol of Uthgardt needs a description. No dogma on it just yet

Barbarian tribes as the gaul have been averse to magic users altough wisemen/women were generaly alowed in at the vikings. Mainly to see into the future and ward off curses by "evil" mages. And who said books, what about runes. My idea was about making a rune crafter or a seith(illusionist) mage, that draws his powers from runes.

There's actually a PRC in the FRCS called Runecaster, who uses his magic to create powerful runes. It's not an arcane class, however. It's a divine class. Wizards have very specific requirements because they need to conform their spellcasting to fit the Weave, which doesn't have a whole lot of room for rune usage.

Also, might I add that if you were to say that your character uses runes to learn magic, that you'd be completely unable to learn any spells but those you get from leveling? Scrolls are studied very carefully, and then transfered to the wizard's private tomb. If the wizard isn't going to read, he's not going to be able to scribe the scrolls (which are all in Elven or Draconic, anyway, so he probably couldn't read them if he wanted to). You'd end up being better off with sorcerer, in the end, in which case you may refer to my previous post.

Oh this sent a shiver of nostalgic PotC shiver down my spine. Damn they were good.

Anyway, I absolutely love the idea of this, and was actually hoping you did include ranger in, as they are the very definitive "hunter/gatherers" and there are a few people in most every tribe who are good at tracking and knowing where to find food.

I'd like to throw in Rashemii witches (druid, bard or even sorcerer might be RPed as that) as suggestion. Would really fit this group, tough women drawing their power from place magic, dunno if they have that ability outside Rashemen.

I think bard and sorcerer might be played as that very well, since they don't learn magic from scrolls.

Actually, a barbarian to Uthgardt is sounding rather attractive after reading all of that.

I have a shaman on the lower levels on the group if anyone wants to make a new char and need a buddy to follow in hunt.

and Phaernun, you could tell me more about the belief system you want on it, so I can work around it with her. I know a bit about it, but more info would always be cool.

More lore about would be nice .. you may convince enough people to actually make it a faction, as it seems very attractive.

Will do so, and I am happy if someone thinks they would like to lead such a faction, as I cant due to the Eternal Order. IF there is interrest then I will gladly invest some more work.

Are the women allowed to be warriors? It may sound like a stupid question, but they are described basically as RL human females in earlier centuries.

And another question - this society is hunter-gatherer, or is it agrarian? It's hard to see how many longhalls and mead could be made if they were just hunter-gatherer, but the description makes it sound like that.

Thanks :)

I am assuming it is like how the old vikings and germans tribes were. This being that they were agraian but they also went out and hunt for their food or steel it from others when they raided europe via their longships but I am not sure if the raiding part will be part of this tribe.

This does sound intresting though, but I have enough charachters at the moment anyways.

But in RL women are physically weaker than men (on average) ... in FR women are the complete equals, and the average woman has a str 10, just like the average man.

Er, Phear....um...not to be a spoil sport or anything. But after doing a bit of research of Uthgardian peoples, it's come to my attention that the Uthgardian's are solely in place around the northen tip of the main faerunian continent, the books even state that they aren't found anywhere else. So things like Runemeet, and traditions of the Uthgardian's probably wouldn't make it to Amia, unless this tribe is descedants of another Uthgardian tribe.

Also, each tribe must have a totem, and not all totem's get along. For example, the Thunderbeast tribe is basically at war with the Black Raven tribe. I know the totem thing was removed, but the tribe still comes across as an Uthgardian tribe.

Oh, and you should probably add orc's to the traditional enemies thing. Every Uthgradian tribe in existance has been known to hunt down orc's and typically hate them with every fiber of there being. Going so far as killing woman (though it would be hard to know the difference), and younglings of orcish descent.

On another more pleasent note, I have an Uthgardian tribesmen from the Thunderbeast tribe on Amia. Halkell Warsson, he's pretty easy to spot.

Sounds a lot like the Thunderbeast tribe to be honest. There the most civilised (Other then the Golden Lion) of the tribes, and have worship of Chauntea as well. They also have contact with the outside world and that mainly the reason why the Black Raven hate them, because they are changing from traditional Uthgardian beliefs. Though obviously they still have the prejudices.

Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. Toodles.

I would say the main fact is still to have fun with a certain sort of RP instead of sitting in the middle of a pile of "lore books" and obey the rules in them blindly.

I've posted a PC Story here. with hopes of a special storytelling (skald) event hopefully with some dm involvement. To help bring the NPC characters to life as well.

I also have high hopes that if this place is used more and becomes popular it could become a new town/city or faction (with a portal starting point for barbarian classes).
