Ok...this is a thing that is wrong with Amia. And it's no one's fault but the playerbase itself.

Let me ask you this. How often does your rp not go the way you wanted? How often do you think it's gone exactly the -wrong- way? Probably happens to all of us that have played this server.

But that is not the right mindset at all to approach this game with. What you have to understand is that this is a place filled with real people. They have feelings, ideas, and expectations, that will not match your own. This is not a game where you can do something and expect any one reaction.

This is a game meant for interaction, on a very real level. If your rp goes a direction you never thought it would, why would you ever get angry? Why wouldn't you embrace the new direction, as one you could never have expected, and see where it goes?

Over the past two weeks, I have seen people come and go on this server, and more often than not, seen that the going is caused by the idea that they are treated unfairly, or that the rp they worked so hard on, is falling apart.

This...is...wrong. No matter what direction you think your rp -has- to take, it just might not, and that is something you'd better wholeheartedly accept as part of this game. One of my toons got strung from a tree this week. Did I think that would happen? No. Did I complain? Have -you- ever considered how funny it would be to come along and see a rather proud fey strung up in a tree?

My point? Cut it out. Don't rant in party chat cause you disagree. Don't fly off the handle cause things haven't gone as you thought they would. ADAPT. The DM's aren't these bad tyrants out to control our rp. They just have to accomodate the rp of every person involved, not just your own. You -must- understand this, because if you don't, you'll never understand the level of enjoyment this game can bring. The kind it brings me.

Go with the flow! If someone breaks the rules, yeah, talk with them about it. Don't curse and scream and yell because it bothers you. Just...talk. And accept what comes of it.

You're gonna find a whole 'nother level of enjoyment in this game if you do, and if we can all do -that-, then the problems this server has are going to diminish pretty heavily.

If a DM does something playerside you don't like, ask them about it. They are -players- too, and only want to enjoy their rp as we do. And if they do something DM-side you don't agree with? Buck up, and go with it. Hell, if you ask them about it, they might even give you a hint about why it's been done, and you might find yourself more active in the plot than you even thought was possible.

Enough whining. Go with the rp, no matter what it is, as an acceptance that it -is- rp, or you're just going to have to go somewhere else.

It kind of sucks that it has to be said again though. We are all creatures of control and when that control is questioned, we get angry. Making posts about how players should or should not act isn't really going to change anything. The players themselves have to want to change and understand that some things are beyond control and that they are not the most important thing on the server.

We just gotta roll with it and make fun out of things when they don't go our way. Davis is right. Adapt!

Cori said it best with: Roll with the Punches

That being said: I was hoping this would be about the constant OOC party chat. It kills immersion for me.

I second that too. Big parties are fun because you are with your buds, but sometimes it can get out of hand. But whatevs.

If you right click the uper edge of the chat window, you can put party chat into the combat message window or even turn it off completely. Cheers. :)

Still doesn't stop others from being distracted from RP, though.

I wish people didn't chat OOC. Yeah, sometimes it's nice, sometimes it's great to know the people you play with (though I know nothing about some of my most frequent game buddies), but oftentimes it's just harmful.

We should come down harder on OOC chatting in the Talk channel. That's not what this topic is about, though. Just saying!

I don't see anything wrong with making a topic about that then why don't you? It'd be an interesting discussion.

Regarding the OOC in talk channel, I agree it can get pretty out of hand and I don't like it. The OOC chatter in party chat though, I say leave it alone. If it bothers you, leave the party. I keep away from parties if I don't feel like being involved or like listening to OOC casual chat. OOC chat in the party channel doesn't really hurt anyone anyway, imo.

Nothing about party chat "hurts." It gets to a point where it can distract you and others from RP. And if your chat gets so out of control that it causes someone else to want to leave your party? Maybe it is time to cool it down a tad. It's not a social server it's a Role Play server.

I have been guilty of this soooo many times whether it be getting caught in party chat or in tells. This is more so me agreeing with people like Iron and Dwagin that there needs to be less OOC and more IC.

Simple solutions!

#1 - Leave the Party
#2 - Turn off party Chat
#3 - Move Party Chat to the Combat Window

If someone wants to chat OOC in party, I say let 'em.

If it bothers you personally, it's a personal problem and it can be rectified by simply filtering out party chat. A person's personal views shouldn't be forced on others, especially when those others aren't breaking any actual rules.

Some of the suggestions here have been greatly useful.

As far as the original topic goes (sorry didn't mean to derail), I agree for the most part. When I first started on Amia, I'd sometimes get frustrated when my RP didn't go the way I wanted necessarily... but I've found it to be extremely amazing when I allow myself to just "fall" into the existing RP sometimes instead of always trying to -create- new RP.

Or in a simplified manner of speaking, rolling with the punches.

The problem of Party chat isn't that it distracts me. It's that it distracts the people engaged in it, increases the time they take to respond and makes them less attentive or initiative on IC matters.

There's no way to control it without outright banning it. But just saying: it should remain to an absolute minimum, because we're here to socialize through RP, not through OOC conversation. The latter is fine as long as it does not affect the former, but oftentimes it does. And that's when RP should take priority.

For a different reason, and really requires no replies now that it was said.

If people want to chat, they can use MSN. Keep the OOC to a minimum, even in party chat.

With party chat, there's no specific rules, only preference. With Talk channel, I'm actually quite impressed with how little OOC I see within, and I imagine most players are as well.

I'm going to continue to speak to people in OOC in party chat I'm afraid davis. I enjoy it. I like having conversations with these people, having a joke around, and occasionally bitchin' about something that happened the way we didn't plan. It's social interaction. If someone doesn't like it in party then they can say. If they don't it's their own fault.

I come to Amia for the community more then I do the RP most of the time. So I enjoy talking to the community...well most of it anyway.

Not the point of this thread. Move on to the other one. Can this please be locked? Doesn't serve much of a point to have two talking about the same thing.
