Can someone explain how the cleric spell Bane works?
The description is as follows:
Quote:
Area of effect: colossal (10 meter radius)
Duration: 1 turn / level
Description: Bane fills the caster's enemies with fear and doubt. They suffer a -1 penalty on their attack rolls and a -1 penalty on saving throws against fear.

Is this an aura effect that surrounds and follows the cleric around, since it lasts 1 turn/level? That can be a long time.

Or is it something that affects just the area where the cleric casts it, and that area only? Once the cleric moves on, the spell no longer affects enemy outside of that zone?

I can't tell from the description or from its use. It creates a flash of red light, but I don't see an aura vfx, so it makes me think it's of the second description, where it affects the immediate area only. But it'd be nice if it's of the first description, since it lasts so long.

Bane is a 1-shot radial burst effect. It's essentially the inverse of Bless. Cast it on a target and any of his allies nearby will take the debuff listed, as well as the target itself.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of that. I've been casting it and hoping it followed my cleric around.

Battetide does that one.

Actually, on Amia, battletide is a radial pulse too, not an aura. Auras are lag monsters, and never have worked quite right.

Battletide isn't an aura? It sure looks like one. No mention of that in the spells sidebar.

It'd be nice if that could be edited in, because it looks like one.

The aura was probably left as a visual cue for the spell being activated.

And it's the only buff that shows through GS, for some reason.

Does this mean that enemies in range of the 'aura' arent getting the -2 hit to saves ab and damage? If so, can't we add this to the list of spell changes? This would be quite a serious reduction of the spell.

That said, I could swear I've seen foes show an animation when they come in range of the aura. It's been a while since I've played my clerics though, so maybe not.

Thanks!
