Random NPCs walknig up and force-starting conversations with PCs to give them quests they may or may not want sounds like a wonderful way to break RP already happening, tbh.
Actually, it seems pretty valid to me for a commoner to see a group of adventurers and walk over to them and ask/tell them something. Perhaps some don't want to go to whatever the city's guard is for a particular problem? Again, I'm thinking we could impliment stat checks into the probability of your character getting approached at all. What normal person is going to approach some dwarfie adventurer grinding his teeth with 6 Cha, after all.
That said, the conversations may be force started, but their could always be the option as soon as it starts "Not right now" and they walk away. Another option could be that the NPC just comes over and just says aloud "Excuse me" once or something to that effect. If the person wants to see what they have to say, click on em. If not, ignore them, ICly.
Not to mention it doesn't rain in an in every five minutes.
Player characters also have access to an abundant number of magical items that make day to day weather meaningless.

They're not eating all the time.

"should". "In your opinion." You're free to use them, just like you're free to hang out in, well, any area of the module. People have hung out in front of that temple since the days when the entire module was a straight shot run from Cordor to Bendir and that was it. This is "tradition", people, not words in a book thta say "Adventurers like inns."

I think its just something people need to be aware of and try to work into their RP.

You RP where your PC likes to hang out asnd I'll RP mine.
Valid points Tormak. Like I said its each player's decision to make. My opinion (and I don't think I'm alone here) is that it doesn't make sense from a purely lore-based point of view that adventurers as a whole prefer to stand in the city street than make use of said city's inns and taverns.
I appreciate that its an Amian tradition to stand in Cordor square, I just think Amia would look more like FR if people made more use of their local watering holes.
All I'm saying is people who like the inns should invite their PC's friends to socialise there more, and get places like the nomad buzzing like they used to, instead of feeling like theyre trapped in cordor square as the only RP arena.
I also wholeheartedly support Disco's original suggestion of a sign that lights up when people are inside.

To answer your question, no, the Nomad isn't the only inn in Amia, I had thought that we were still discussing that since it was a major point in the past few pages.
That's assuming, of course, that it was a question and you were not simply disregarding its grammatical purpose in order to appear condescending.

You can't sunbath in the inn. Why would one want to enter it?

If the problem is lack of something making sense ICly I don't see why don't use and IC solution such as a no loitering law. Alternatively, you could run a little script to have PCs catch a nasty cold or something for standing outside in the rain and cold for 8 hours like idiots, such as in the above picture.

Immunity to disease, my character doesn't mind the rain, a druid feels at oneness no matter the weather, my character doesn't want to socialize with the low class booze drinking commoners and knows the higher class adventurers are at the temple, the list goes on and on and on.
As I said in the "random lightning bolts should DM kill people", OC afflicitons that will ruin RP is not the way to foster RP. If you're all so hard up on being in an inn, go to an inn and take other people with you. This is all your grand opinion. Honestly most inn RP I see is people sitting in a bedroom hugging, snuggling, cludding, and foreplay leading to cybering.
when they're outside in Cordor, they're not doing that, which is a gigantic step up.

Some -2 to a stat from a disease is basically just a little nudge. It's about making the world seem reasonable to me, if people want to attempt to nullify that with "my character has such and such a class ability and therefore likes to stand in the freezing rain all day" good for them.
On top of that, people most certainly *do* do the things you mentioned standing around in Cordor. Cybering no, but aimless "I'm bored and can't think of anything else to do"-socializing yes. I don't really care if people want to do such, but it's not a bad idea to try to corral them into an inn, and furthermore, my computer wouldn't hiccup like a drunkard everytime I try to walk through Cordor Square because there's a dozen people standing there. It's much easier to avoid an inn.

So because Cordor RP isn't up to your thrilling standards, Disco should script something that hassles every single character on the server in Cordor no matter what the quality of RP is at the time? EDIT: And this will cause more lag than people standing in Cordor to RP ever will, btw.
Seriously here, people.
I think you all should have to make fort saves in inns because of the haze of tobacco smoke, the smell of pungent overripe food and bad liquor, and have to make fort saves every time you sleep in the cheap rooms due to bedbugs biting you. It's not good for you. Fresh air is.
I can play your game too, you know. You're going about this the entirely wrong way. If you want people to RP in inns, RP in inns and bring them with you.

What makes it not a bad idea, or, more specifically, what makes it a good idea? What offends so so much at the core that peopkle standing outside to RP in a city deserve to have scripted bad things up to and including random scripted unresistable death applied to them? How come you don't ppply this in Kohlingen? Or Ultrinnan? People in Ultrinnan's exterior should eb subject to poisons. Random stabs in the back. They should be RPing in the inn.
Reducto ad Absurdium.

I agree with Tormak. It does no good to bait people with goodies or prod them with scriptese. The only quantity that really persuades people to come back to a given location time and time again is roleplaying.
You sure get your little knickers in a twist mighty easily. I'm not offended at anything, I offered a suggestion relevant to the original post, as is customary regarding forum etiquette, and related my personal experience as to how the issue mentioned affects me personally (that is, computer lag), which, at one time, was taken to be a sign of sympathizing rather than instigating, which it apparently is now. I don't pay much attention to the "standards" of RP in Cordor, because I generally go through as fast as possible to avoid my machine having to process a dozen fully-buffed PCs all standing around talking at once.
Also, if you want to "play my little game" try to do a little better than comparing standing for a few days in once place outside in the cold to risking second hand smoke inside an inn. This a lousy argument and basically makes my point about the world needing to seem believable more important. If your "counter-argument" had any validity people wouldn't bother fashioning shelters to avoid standing around in the elements all day in the first place. Even if we remove the element of disease and discomfort from cold with our godly magical powers there is still the very mundane element of standing in one place for extended periods being odd. If possible, most people prefer to sit, not stand.
I would still go with my original suggestion to this however, to have a law against loitering in the square if people feel inns need to be more important. There was a lot of whining about how locking the gates would supposedly "ruin RP" in Cordor too, but I think it's done just the opposite, if no other reason than giving the place at least a semblance of reality to it.
(edit for typos and other stuff)

I find it silly when people stand out in the rain as well. So Xavi at least stands under the temple eaves or a tree and/or wears her hooded cloak. As far as I'm concerned, protection from elements will prevent you from catching cold in the rain, but it wont stop you from getting wet in the first place.

I bought a PLC awning specifically so Xavi could hang out in the square without having to stand in the rain. It's actually very popular when she has it up - people crowd under it. And sometimes I put a bench in it.

Why is it whenever Blood'n'Ashes sticks his oar in, a topic always goes to (censored) via ten million multiple paragraph posts?
Slight exaggeration?
Though I tend to agree, in this forum you need to make your points quicker and shorter. Save the long posts for those occasions when attention isn't going to wander.
Also if you have a list of points, consider using the list tag and the li tag for each point, thus forming a bullet-point list. People love bullet points.
Finally be sparing with your commas and consider taking new sentences where you wouldn't in formal writing. This gives the reader more pauses to think about what you've written.
Actually no. I'm serious. He turns up, writes lots and lots, all of which is annoying, long-winded, and ultimately detracting from whatever he's posted on - usually making argument for the sake of it, by throwing out hardcore RP solutions that are never going to get implimented because this isn't that type of server...
As soon as he arrives, everyone responds to him, he monopolises the conversation, and it inevitably gets flamey too because compromise seems to be lacking from his otherwise copiously large dictionary.

I'm afraid I agree with Xordae ... there's nothing wrong with his posts (although I will say that they'd be easier to read if they were shorter paragraphs, but that's up to BnA). And Numbers - along with myself, you're one of the last people that can complain about others detracting from the point I'm afraid.
And if he chooses to be the major contributor to the discussion 'monopolise' as you put it, that's his decision to make.
As for the point in hand, I do think it would be nice to move the default spawn point to the top floor of the Nomad, and the crystal binds of other villages within their respective inns, but I withdraw my support for the xp idea.

Disco's idea about the sign out the front lighting up when people are inside is wicked as well.
And as someone said it could be justified IC as signs of people being in there... boots or cloaks hung up, sounds of merriment, or just being able to see people through the windows.

Want people to stop standing in the plaza? Make the Plaza smaller.
Alternatively, move the Nomad to west Cordor, the Market Hall to centeral Cordor, and leave the Temple where it is. The issue comes from the fact that people have everything avaliable at one spot, and a large place to sit about talking.
Make the area smaller, remove easy access to everything, and people won't simply go to one spot and stand their then run to the nearest spots of convience.

I took my PC and three others off the Cordor square street! All it took was a happy feat of smiles and laughs and drinks! Or mostly because my PC was practically demanding the four gathered and chat someplace inside before it rained.
And it worked out very well too. Got drinks ordered and passed out, chit-chatted on whatever could be put to mind, and made a toast to the advancement of another character.
It took me about... 3.7seconds to figure out how to do it all too.
If you wanna see Inns used, it's so easy to do yourself. I made it up on the spot- I had actually been looking for a way to make it more fun to congradulate the character ICly for their recognition of good work with the faction. The Inn was perfect to go hold a cheer at!
(And, better, nobody wanted alcohol drinks; thank you fruity punch and hot-choclates!!)

I did it, easily! Proof, there is, with RP!

Cordor is not the cause of any of the problems that it's being associated with. The "server hub" mechanic is the cause of the problem, and that won't go away no matter where the hub actually is. And people will find a new hub no matter how many of them you nuke.
The inn as a starting location sounds greatest idea ever, I mean that is where adventurers usually start their adventures, anyhow.(although I will never start my PnP gaming sessions in one, becouse that is too stereotyped) Nowadays Amias inns are quiet as heck, only ghosts roam them now, if even them...
Disagree with the random inn though... what if a level 1 character spawns in high level area?

question, what dictates where the bind points are for the city in ICly? money, politics, religion?
also i like the op post, but would like to say i'm for the idea of moving the start point to the nomad, if only to have PC's pass through on there way to the square, gives more chance of for the RP with that particular inn. people do not just go into the inns being the OP's point i believe, i set in the nomad for an entire day in real life, 2 people entered, one of which i had told to meet me there sometime that day. not saying i could not go outside and grab people to rp with, but thats not what my character would do. also the nomad seems a much better place to start then the temple of Waukeen, espacailly for followers of Mask & Graz'zt

I've said removing Cordor for a week would do the server wonders. >_>
And how would it do such?
Sorry, missed this.
I think it would do Amia wonders because PC's would be encouraged back to their faction/align homes for a few days.
Just saying if Pallies were more encouraged to hang out in Khol for a few days, while Elves hang out in Winya for a while, while humans hang out with other humans for a time might do some good. In the end, yes, Cordor's notorious loiterers will return when Cordor returns, but maybe with a better understanding of the setting. If nothing else, PC's at least would be introduced to others of their kin/align/profession for a little bit, perhaps making some lasting bonds.
I'm just thinking Cordor being MIA for a few days would kinda refresh the notion that in FR, Cordor is a rarity, not the norm.

As for how, riots - massive riots against adventurers make Cordor inaccessible for a few days. Place a portal in the Temple of Waukeen to Amia forest, and have the place barricaded.
