_Bio [R,B,N,A] [text]\nOptions: If you use [R]evert you set the bio back to the character creation version, you can leave [Text] open. [B]reak adds a linebreak (return) to the end of your current bio, you can leave [Text] open. [N]ew overwrites current bio with [Text] and adds a space to the end. [A]dd appendeds to the current bio with [Text] and a space. \nExample: f_Bio Add Stop metagaming!\nThis adds 'Stop metagaming! ' to your current bio.
I am kinda stupid, could you give me a lil primer on this?
Do I have to type the words ADD, BREAK, NEW and REVERT in full, or would just an A,B,N, or R be sufficient? Do I need to put \n at the end of the final line, or every line?
is it possible that this same system of adding to a document (aka Bio) could be put inpalce with the Scribe system, so when we scribe book's or paper's we can add a far more detailed information to the books by continuing to scribe in them as time move's on, a character could even Scribe a IC Journal as well as Books on a wide Variety of IC research.
and entire libary of player created books.

Scribes can do name, bio, and append to bio. I've done it. Several times.
what is the Code to continue to add to and items BIO then without overwriting it then as i tried the above and it didn't work.

ds_j append
There's no linebreak code, so to add a space in between bits of text, use:
ds_j bio blahblahstuffhere
ds_j append [put the space after the word append, but leave this part blank and hit enter]
ds_j append morestuffgoeshere
will give you:
Quote:
blahblahstuffhere
morestuffgoeshere
I've done this with scribe on a sign I bought from a carpenter for a nice in game advertisement, as well as on an empty tome, now called my "spellbook" with a brief description that it's a spellbook.
I believe the dm's/disco do not want books being scribed that are extravagently long, though, as it bulks up character file sizes causing lag, or some such. I'd recommend keeping such things no more than 1 "screen" in size - that is, not having to scroll to see it all.

Yes, please keep your journals out of the game itself. The forums are a good place for "inagame books".
Books REALLY bulk up your character, and big characters cause all kinds of errors and lag to other players. DMs can and will strip items off players, if their filesizes get too big. We especially focus on books and collectible items, those are the worst bulk-adders.
But there's a sensible alternative to both: books to be kept on the forums, and collectible items (whatever it is that you collect) to be stored in a special storage item.

If this really becomes a problem I will not hesitate to remove the append option from the scribe.
Worked great. Thank you Disco and Tormak for helping a code illiterate player. I've only wanted to change my bio for about 11 levels....pretty much since five minutes after I started playin.

first of all, mad thanks to disco for implementing this
second of all, mad thanks to tormak for giving the guide i followed to make my bio
third of all, mad thanks leggomi for telling me to use f_ and not just _
and lastly, i read the bios of each and every monster ive ever come across. they're great, and am always saddened when i come across a monster with a blank bio.
